Arizona Busa Riders

Dude, I wasn't able to completely follow your directions on the google map, BUT, the Salt River Canyon road looks utterly astonishing!!!

Especially this: Map linky thingy. And another map Linky Thingy.

And we're going to ride it TWICE?!?!?!?!!!! Utterly awesome!

Can't wait to see y'all there!

--Wag--

The whole route for Saturday is pretty nice. But... Salt River Canyon is defnately the highlight, believe me its worth doing twice. A lot of guys go up there to run laps. If you like the twisties, you'll love Salt River Canyon. Not only is the riding great, but is very scenic.

The ride across 188 will be OK but there is a great photo op with the bridge and lake as a back drop. I think we've put together a couple of pretty decent rides. Sean (roadthing) is planning the ride from the westside for Sunday. And... it going to be a longer ride in very scenic country which you have probably been through before.... One downside to riding here is that in many areas there is an ever present police presence. And they don't hesitate to stop motorcycles. Especially sprot bikes.

Any how, looking forward to seeing you and your Mrs. Please becareful on the way out...

The milage for Saturdays ride is approxinately 390 miles. But... its gonna be great to get to ride with you all.

For Sundays ride, we are going to meet at the TA truck stop and 339th Ave and I-10. Exit 103. We are planning on leaving there at 7:00 for a great day of riding going north.

Sunday, October 19th RIDE see link at bottom of post

Meet at the TA Travel Center (if you could call it that ) at 7:00 A.M. for a depart time no later than 7:30 or earlier, if everyone scheduled to go is ready.

Start at TA Travel Center, exit 103 (339th. Avenue) off of I-10 in Tonopah, AZ.

First leg: 339th. Avenue to S. Vulture Mine Road, ending at the Mobil station at the end of N. Vulture Mine Road and 93.

If you are not familiar, it's open country, long straights, a few nice sweepers followed by a short burst of nice curves (not very technical), ending in a few blocks through Wickenburg.

Regroup at the Mobil station. **Riders can feel free to depart here, just let someone know you are leaving**

We will head for Yarnell Hill via 93/89. Be aware that the speed limit on the stretch before you begin the hill is not the Autobahn. If you choose to ignore the posted speed limit, you will probably meet a representative of the Arizona D.P.S. at the top of the hill, or just before we enter Prescott. Also, if you race up the hill, which you will be tempted to do, you run the high risk of being given a performance award. **We'll discuss the details when we meet** We will stagger the group into two segments for safety, and to reduce the amount of attention drawn  The stagger will only be something like 15-20 seconds, and will be staged by rolling through the slow segment leading to the start of the "hill".

If you are not familiar with this area, more straights leading to what is affectionately called a "hill". It's not a hill, it's a mountain. It has decreasing radius turns, sparse guardrails, but nothing where the road camber can trip you up. Please watch for sand/gravel in the corners, boys and girls.

We roll on through into Wilhoit, where White Spar Road begins it's twisties as we enter the Prescott Forest. We'll be going up in elevation, and riding througs some fire damaged parts of the forest. We'll probably stop at an overlook near the end of the twisties for a photo op. Once again, ride sensibly, the MAN may be timing you. Watch for wildlife (no, really!), and sand/gravel, and azzhats that can't hold their lane

If you are not familiar, it's more or less like going up Yarnell Hill. Once you get a taste of that, you'll be ready for White Spar Road.

We'll hit Montezuma Street (Whiskey Row), and grab something to eat, and snap a few pics. Parking is pretty bike-friendly, so whoever leads in, try and snag a couple of choice spots that surround the old courthouse. **Riders can feel free to depart here, just let someone know you are leaving**

Back on 89, we'll head for 89A into Jerome. Stopping in Jerome for a pic would be nice, so if we can snag a few choice spots, we'll do just that. If not, we can motor on into Clarkdale gas/coffee, etc.

Not familiar? It's more of the same kinds of road, followed by a fun twisty stretch leading into, and out of Jerome.

From Jerome or Clarkdale, we continue on 89A to Sedona. We'll stop again for a photo op, etc. Once here, we will figure out if we will A) Continue up 89A through Oak Creek Canyon to Flagstaff, or B) Motor back to I-17 and back to the valley. If we go with A, we can head south on I-17, or continue on to Lake Mary Road. If we go Lake Mary Road, on to Payson, we are looking at adding 4:20 and @ 145 miles to the ride, not including the run from Payson back to the valley.

So, the second leg will be played by ear. Nobody push themselves. Let's have a good time!

Let's have your feedback, please.

Wrong week. Just coming off of vacation.

Damn. I hope copperone (Danny) puts another ride together. Perhaps we can head down your way next time. I have not been down there since late last year.

Is that a subtle enough hint, Danny?

So now do you see why I was so bummed about the possibility of missing out on this ride? And that satelite photo doesn't show the half of it...picture cruising down into the Grand Canyon til you hit the bottom, crossing over a bridge then riding back up the otherside of the canyon.

Spectacular!!!!

Dan

Let's get a final head count!
:beerchug:

Even if you previously stated that you are coming, please PM Danny or myself.

Excluded are Mr. and Mrs. Wag, BA Busa, JUSTANOVA, and UR IT. Everyone else, please let us know what days you'll be riding on.

Thanks!

Just to confirm, if your riding with us this week please post up or send Sean or I a PM. With the exception of those Sean mentioned above. Just trying to firm things up because the rides are this weekkend... Thanks Danny

I am looking to move out to the Phoenix area and an wondering how the riding is around the area.

The riding is great. The drivers suck. Motorcycle theft is ridiculous. There are amazing roads. I guess you have to take the good with the bad

You can experience several different climates in one ride. Go up north and hit snow, come back south and jump in the pool. Plenty of great riding, and plenty of bikes on the road.
