Assumptions will kill ya...

I had that happen my first week in NC, "flying" down the mountain thinking "I'm going fast, I'm going fast" ::then in my best Ricky Bobby voice:: "what was that, were those the other bikes?!?"

Its easy to think how fast you are when there isn't any one faster to keep in perspective for you . But then again the only trophies getting handed out on the streets are invisible and only go to the select few that survived the ride and had the most fun.

I actually learned the other day that assumptions will kill ya....lol. I was riding with a group of friends on a very nice road full of twisties (one way road), right before we started hittin the twisties I see in my rear view mirror an old supersport BMW with sadle bags, (full leathers and tinted shield), I felt like he was pushing me, so I said, "I'm going to show this guy what a fast bike look like on the twisties and i'm going to leave him way behind".... so I took off and I started hitting those turns hard, and then, all of the sudden in one of the 15 mpg turns this guy passed me on the left, sparks coming out of his knee plug (full lean) and probably 3 times my speed, and just disspeared... 5 min after when I get to end I see him waiting on the right shoulder, so I stoped to talk to him, and when he took off his helmet, I was like, WTF>>> white hair, 73 years old from England. (Retired, Former GP Moto instructor in Europe). He was so cool, we stayed there like an hour talking to him, absorving every piece of advise he was saying.....

Imagine, I would have seen this guy at the gas station before we started the ride, and he comes to me and tell me, "Let race thru those twiesties and $200 for the winner?" I woulld have look at him, then his old bike, and I probably would have thougth "easy money out of this old man in that old ass bike).

Just to find out at the end that he would had smoked the **** out of me....

He is the last one on the right... (with yellow strap)

This is one of those situations where before agreeing to the bet...you'd have to have a glance at his tires...

Good story... :beerchug:

Yeah. I'm 62 and still riding a Busa. I may be the next guy passing you. On the other hand, I may be the next guy showing off who ends up in the ditch.

Always remember, and never forget, all else being equal, it's the rider that makes the ride, not the other way round. Of course, if the riders good enough, he can do more/better riding with less ride than another and probably will.

Hats off to the veterans of motorcycling!
