I have a novel idea. Why don't some of you pony up the server fees and tell BallZ to get lost, this way you can surf the forums without his "annoying ads." I'm dumbfounded when I see people complaining about things that they pay nothing to enjoy. I don't see anyone volunteering to pay the monthly fees from the generosity of their hearts...so if ads are required, and those advertisers need to occupy some of the forum space to get the job done, I say have at it.

Hell, I'm going to buy something from BallZ just to offset this ridiculous negativity.

I too have seen the posts/ads from Ballz increase greatly. Although, they are a site sponsor and have every right to post what they want in their ad section. They do put a yellow thumbs up on each post and they are posting in the Ballz section.

It is a tough situation because I am sure they are looking to generate business, but they may actually be hurting themselves by flooding the forum. Either way, I understand the reasoning behind the massive amount of posts, and deal with it as they are a sponsor.

If they were breaking a site policy that Captain has set for sponsors, I am sure it would be taken care of quickly.
 
It is a temporary deal, guys they are just loading their product into their forum. This is not an ongoing deal, it wil stop soon enough...
 
live with it or start your own site! This site is a great place and I am sure it's not cheap to run, tough times call for tough decisions I am sure that this is not what was expected but was necessary. option A shut down the site or have limited resources or option B get sponsors and let it run? It's a no brainer, be thankful it's still here, if you dont like the ads runnung click your mouse to the next page you will be alright.
 
I'm not gonna complain anymore cuz I haven't donated in awhile.....Money's been real tight.
 
i know it kinda sucks for you guys who have been here for a while but to a newbie like me i dont mind. It helps me see whats out there and gives me names to put with parts etc. Not to mention the fact that if we didnt have the sponsors like ball z you should see how bad a forum can get. Ever try to post on yuku? Talk about slow laggy add heaven. Why complain about something you get for free? I guess i just cant grasp this. I use the new post thing almost all the time i serf. I dont have any troubles ignoring his adds if i want. They are very easy to scroll past.
 
Could always shut the .Org down for a few days giving BallZ time to upload so 6 people aren't annoyed or ban the whiners or lock them out of the new post feature.

I've never seen a Ballz ad, but I sure have heard alot about them lately.

Cap, I'm tied of all these Ballz threads, shouldn't they be moved? Maybe to the Ballz section?

I agree. - I have no problem with a sponsor advertising their products, I just think that creating a new thread for each different colour is a bit much.

I am more bothered by all the pissy, complaint posts....than any of the BallZ stuff.

And the best is when a member PM ed me so nobody can see what he wrote here it is and it was on a different forum... You mentioned it not being cheap to run a forum....

Most forum software is free. If you wanted vB, it's $190. Cost of hosting is pretty cheap. I run a half dozen forums myself, most don't have any ads at all.

The problem is when someone tries to make a living off a forum
 
071300r, as I explained to you in PM - any further posting on this topic from me would not be beneficial to anyone, as I've already said my peace and any additional posts would be redundant. I also don't have any desire to antagonize the forum admins further. Since you and I did a ride recently, I thought I'd correct you on your claim that it's expensive to host a forum:

phpBB, SMF, etc are all free. vB is commercial, so you can't discount it's cost - $190 for a one site license (one time fee)

12 years ago, it cost me $1,000 a month to run a T1 for my web sites. I've done various colo options (rackspace, ev1, etc), but these days you can get a 20 mbps pipe for under $100 and host whatever you want. Hence my comment on it being cheap to run a forum these days. I run a half dozen sites, they range from PR 4 to PR 7. Nothing fancy, I do it for fun. I'm a software engineer by trade, so this is all basic stuff to me.

I don't know what's up your ass - but my telling you that your statement about 'forums costing a lot to run' in PM doesn't constitute cowardliness. As a local in the Tampa area, I thought I could be open with my feelings on the topic without aggravating the issue here further. It doesn't make any sense for me to post here what I told you in private. Obviously I misjudged you. You have some personal issues, but I won't get into that. I'm only elaborating because you choose to post my PM on this forum.

Needless to say, I have enough background to understand that one cannot push the owner of a site - they own the site and can do as they wish. In Captain's place, I would ban anyone who kept complain about something I had no desire to change.
 
Tell me how I can get a T1 for $100 a month and reading this thread will be worthwhile.

T1 is too slow these days. A few users can saturate the line since users are no longer on dialup.

If FIOS is available in your local area, you can get a business account. The 30/20 package costs $49/mo for residential. Commercial customers pay double that, but there are no limits on what you can do with the bandwidth (servers permitted, no ports blocked, no max bandwidth restrictions), you also get 5 static IPs with the package. Latency is great, throughput is great. I have no complaints. Compared to the T1.. my T1 was on the same network as EA's (In Maitland, FL). So anytime it had issues, TW would work to fix it ASAP. Still, it was down a LOT more than I had ever seen with residential services. Extra painful since TW also required a 1 year lease on the line minimum.

I'm sure there are alternatives for cheap network, but this is what I'd recommend if FIOS is available.

I never knew there was a new post section, I just scanned the Gen 1, Random topics, etc.

I never knew who ballz was. I did find something on their site I will be ordering though.

I have been on this site since 2007 and everyone has given me help when I needed it, you get here and say some B.S. of it dosent cost anything to run a web site I said do it you said you run a half a dozen. bro its like this go get a soothing ointment and a tissue and some cheese for that wine we are not friends I dont know you I met you for like 5 seconds you think something is up my a&& (and get my a&& out of your head) bro get a life learn how to ride and as far as personal issues yes I do when big girls like you want to start something and think your somebody, a guy as versitile as you are with web pages and all the t5 t6 t7 t8 and whatever else you want to say build a slamming site like you claim you can and we will see who runs to it and who stays here.. and like vonback quoted why does it matter to you if someone profits off a web site you are a female dog and you ride like one as well:moon: and the way you talk to me stating you misjudged me and opening you feelings with me sounds to me like your trolling for a new man.....
