Thank you once again Ken.
I just bought a gen 1 cylinder sense the gen2 wont hold up im told. Your thoughts on a 2mm bore on that cylinder? More cc so less boost is needed.
I spoke to John Noonan a few mins. ago. He recommended that i go as big as i can cc wise because it will help spool the turbo. He said, no one that he knows of has had problems with the gen 1 cylinders with the 2 mm bore. Has anyone heard different?
Who sells 20 tooth front sprockets for the larger 30mm output shaft.
Impressive build.
If you have the time, you may want to look into coating the pistons after they are prepped and polished. The coating on the top acts as a thermal barrier and cuts down on heat getting to the wrist pin and the roof of the piston. The coating on the side helps with friction. There are huge forces and drag on one side of the piston that cost power and occasionally break skirts.
Well I just picked up another bike yesterday up in MD. Yep another 08 busa. I desided that I needed this build to be a 100 race bike. This way I won't feel so bad if we cut on the frame or do any crazy stuff to it.
I should have my gen 1 rods and pistons this week. If you are wondering why I went with gen 1 rods it is because the Wossner rods for the gen 1 have 3/8 rod bolts and the larger wrist pins. Then i will put the tool steel wrist pins in from APE. Trying to make this thing bullet proof.
Wossner Standard .180" pins have already proven themselves in 600hp Busa's, heck Ronnie Mitchell's bike ridden by Bud Yoder just won the race in Virginia at VMP..
Well the Wossner rods and pistons came in today and my turbo got here yesterday. Im hoping to get some work done on this build after Maxton this weekend. Im planning on heading down to Blake Gann's shop in NC next week to let him do the mech. work on the cylinders and clean the case up.
Thanks John for your help.
Well after a couple of months I finally got my engine case sent to get tapped out for the half inch studs. This build is taking longer than expected but is still moving foward. It's not looking hopeful for Maine. But hoping to get some test and tune in this fall at maxton.
Well this project just got its head trashed this afternoon. Well i had put this head on my street bike so i could break all the records at maine in the production class. Well it dropped 2 valves in cylinder 1 and 2. Well now at least i have extra pistons a cylinder for my steet bike. This turbo bike has been on hold sense my buddy wanted to have some of his dreams met before the cancer takes him. We have been working on his lakester for speed week. It should break all records in its class. He hold current record of 386 but should do well over 400 this year. Long as the trans holds up this time. Tomorrow We will put together a game plan to get this street bike back together for either for Maine or Bonneville. And get the turbo bike project back up and running for this fall. Watch all all who go fast because im gunning for you.
did you end up picking a turbo yet? the turbo i mentioned earlier is now available with a billet aluminum compressor wheel. less rotating mass, one less fin on the inducer, so it'll swallow even more air.
Well this project stalled out somewhat. But i will say I just got in my new fuel rail and ordered a fuel pump for this bike. I got the engine cases back last month from the machine shop. They put the half inch studs in for me. Let see all I need now is to put it together and get a new head. Mine was way to destroyed from my dropped valves last year. I was told it would be cheaper to just get another one.
Does anyone have suggestions one upper injector size for big hp. Thanks everyone
Well wouldn't you know i just got a complete gen2 head off ebay with cams and valve cover for a great price. It was also nice to have a 10% off coupon from ebay too. Now all I really need is a Plenum and some odd and in stuff.
