Thanks guys, I'll tell him of your concern. Paul is expected to recover fully, according to the good people at UT. He suffered one or two "chipped or cracked vertabrae, a separated shoulder (they said it shouldn't require surgery, just immobilization and let it heal), a couple broken ribs apparently puncturing his lung, damage to his pancreas causing bleeding, and a ruptured spleen which has been removed. I saw him yesterday and he was in some pain, but looked good and seemed to be in good spirits. He was airlifted mainly because of the remote location- it would take a very long time to reach the hospital by ambulance. At the scene he had no visible injuries, he was complaining of pain in his side and shortness of breath. No rash, no bruising. For a short time I actually thought he just had the wind knocked out of him, but it became apparent that it was more serious as time passed. The Blount County Deputy and the EMTs that worked the accident deserve recognition. They did an outstanding job and resisted the urge to be judgemental or critical. They went above and beyond to be helpful. All the folks we dealt with at UT Medical deserve the same recognition. They too were extremely kind and helpful.

According to the Web site, motorcyclists who ride Suzuki's Hyabusa model were gathering at Robbinsville, N.C., for Busa Bash III, an event which included rides throughout the area including the Dragon.

At 11:15 a.m. Friday, Tennessee Highway Patrol Trooper Ernest Marion responded to a motorcycle crash on U.S. 129 about a mile from the Monroe County line. Martin said Tomas Hradil, 30, of Chicago was thrown off his bike on a curve and the motorcycle caught fire.

At 12:06 p.m. Friday, Blount County Sheriff's deputies investigated a crash on U.S. 129 near the Tennessee/North Carolina line. Paul J. Sisilli, 42, of Port St. Lucie, Fla., was headed northbound down the Dragon when he lost control of his Suzuki Hyabusa motorcycle and went into a ditch.

Shortly before 2 p.m. Friday, Trooper Bryan Martin responded to a motorcycle crash near the 6-mile marker on the Dragon. He said James Henry III, 35, of Georgia was negotiating a curve when he lost control and went off a 15-foot embankment. Henry was also airlifted to UT hospital, treated and later released.

Around 1 p.m. Saturday, Trooper Brent Cagle investigated a motorcycle crash on the Dragon that sent both people aboard the bike to UT hospital by Lifestar. Details of the accident and names of the victims were not available Saturday evening.
How come the 'Busa gets specific mention in the article yet the other accidents are just "bikes" with "riders" ?

Man, I'm so glad he's doing OK. At least he'll have a cool story to tell now.

Man, ive never been up there but im not sure i want to now. Ill stick with the nice straight roads here in good ol Florida! Hopefully everyone that was injured comes out of it ok.

Glad he's gonna be ok. I've never been there, have always wanted to, but now am not so sure I want to go this soon.

i was planning to go up there this summer, but im not sure about it now that i see so many fools frequent it, i dont need someone on my butt and taking my attention away from what im trying to do.

I have some crazy internet movies of that place mostly downloaded from Killroy.com looks very technical and inviting but it's got too much press over the last few years and is very crowded all summer. In the recent Cycle Worlds mag BMW actually names the place with a check list ... There are plenty of sweet back roads with no one around that are a better bet for safety or so it seems to me.

I would like to add something hear. I fell for those that go down. Been there and done that. My friend of 20 years just got a 2003 zx9 friday. we rode for a few minutes friday. He rode the bike to work sat and stopped by my house that night after work to make plans for today to go for a ride w/our wives. About 45 minutes after he left my house I got a phone call from his wife that he had been hit by a car.He pulled up to a 4 way stop sign and started to go. All of a sudden a car ran the stop and clipped his front end. That mother f***er never even stopped!!!

It was a hit and run. Luckily all he got was a broken collar bone and some road rash( and a wrecked bike). I'm just hoping the cops catch that guy. I guess we all just have to do what we can to be safe and pray for each other.

I noticed that as well.  Interesting.

I think it's a conspiracy.  Hey, it could happen.

The least they could do would be to learn how to spell it correctly.

Hope Paul is healing fast...

Man, I don't know if I want to ride the Dragon...I've got friends that have gone there, experienced riders on smaller bikes, and they've had too many close calls for me to feel good about it...

Just glad our Busa rider is going to be okay; thoughts out to all the others that went down on such a busy weekend of riding...

the funny thing is that the dragon isnt even close to the best road up there

Its fun to ride early in the morning and later in the evenings, however you *have* to ride very carefully and within your limits.... and by all means you have to get familiar with the road before you make a higher speed pass because A) there could be trash in the corners, like this weekend and B) this dragon bites back, you have to know where to slow down.

I'm just happy that Paul is getting better and should make a full recovery, others up there weren't as lucky if you listen to the rumors
