Busa intimidating

I am thinking of buying a busa and i have a few questions for the senior members of this board.I had a zx9 previously so im not new to bikes,my question is how many people on here for use there busa for everyday commuting?Im a little intimidated because of the reputation and am curious how it is for everyday riding?I am looking to commute doing the week and drag race on the weekends in comfort so i think the busa would be the best choice.

I'm 52. I've put 20,000 miles on her in a year. Daily in the summer and as much as i can in the winter. Heli bar riser bars and buell peg lowering mod and a New Image Seat. Do a search for any of those to see what people say about them. I dont race, but am very comfortable on short trips and long all day rides.
It's been said many times..the busa is a sport touring bike. Go for it!

you came to the right place if you want to be talked into getting one , It's anything you want it to be. She's a demon and a pussycat all rolled into one. The question you have to ask yourself is do you have enough self control to handle her. Oh and get the bike you won't be dissapointed.

Racerbrad I'm 58 and here's my take on the Busa. It's all about intelligence of your right wrist. The bike can be so docile and just putt around like it was a Harley (w/o the noise) or you can light the throttle and hit the after burners to Mach I if you want to. But here's the catch..... for your own safety and others when and where and under what circumstances you light the throttle and hit the afterburners is of maximum concern. The wrist action needs to match your skill level. That seems easy but testosterone manifests itself in many ways . Be the guy who rides within his limits and really that goes for all bikes not just a Busa. I've seen men seriously injured on 883 Sportsters for doing the wrong thing at the wrong time...ride within your limits and go home happy you rode. Learn to ride the Busa within your skill level and I hope to ride with you down the road. Wardie

I have had mine for a little over a month now...3300 miles later I am pretty happy. I commute 65 miles one way (don't ask lol) and am 6'2. I am comfy with the stack bars and seat, took a little getting used to but I'm good. Its probably the most forgiving bike I have owned, like the others have said just learn her slow and keep it together and you'll have no issues. Best commuter I have owned thus far.

:welcome: I'm new to the Busa myself. My last bike was a ZX9 too. If you loved that bike, then the Busa is everything you loved about it and more. For me, I loved the 9 because it was a big, stable, fast bike. Good powerband and great for around town. My 9 wasn't as fast as my buddies' R1, but it felt so much better to ride.

I've had my Busa (2006 model) for only a couple of weeks and love everything about it. That massive power is there, but it won't jump out at you. If you've ridden the 9 hard, you'll be even better on the Busa. Comfort is good (at least compared to other sport bikes). Also stable in corners just like the 9.

Anyway, pull the trigger.....I'm glad I did.

How much of a commute? I ride to work every single day, but the way I go is about 8 miles of twisties through the mountains so it's neither long nor boring .

My bike is bone stock. I'm 6' 3" about 235 and I'm good for 2ish hours on the 'busa before I need to get off to stretch and let my arse wake back up. At my last job I was commuting a few times a week roughly 60 miles each way and my only issue was wrist fatigue (although this lessened somewhat after I'd been doing it for a while).

edit: Oh and about the 'reputation'...I mean, the bike will do almost whatever you ask it to do. It's got enough low end that you never really have to get over 4k RPM for around town driving, in which range the bike is smooth, docile and surprisingly refined. On the other hand if you want to run wide open and melt the pavement with your hair on fire all the time...well, ya know. It's a 'busa. It didn't get that reputation by accident.

If you we're comfortable with the ZX9 you'll love the Busa.

all i can say is you will not be disappointed!!!!! i came from a 01 CBR929RR to an 07 busa. I got the bike new as a leftover. in a bit over a year living in NJ put over 11,000 miles on it. i avg 40 + mpg commute 60 miles a day and have done a trip to VT in one day 600 plus miles. you will love it....

Not certain if I'm a "senior" enough member to reply to your questions.

As the others have stated she makes for a great commuter bike and with a couple of mods she can be a great tourer too. What I don't know is how well a competitive drag bike will do as a daily commuter. ???
:welcome: to the .oRg!

I'm definatly not a senior member here but I'll throw in my $.02 any how, Did you drag the zx9? if so was it stretched? do you intend on stretching the bus? I comute daily on my stock length 09 and love it but you might wanna ask some one with a stretched bike (if this is your intention and you haven't done it before) if they would ride it daily? (comfortably in traffic etc)

Hope it goes well for you:beerchug:

age 40 commute alot on my 05 very easy to ride long distance just get use to her before you rip it been riding mine for 37,000 miles now

If you're worried Death's going to be your co-pilot, don't. I commute on my 'Busa every day it's not raining, and stays at 25* F or better (20 miles one way; 4-lane). You control the brakes, and throttle, and that gives you a big advantage over the bike in any test of 'wills' between the two of you. My impression is, if you're leaned over very far and grab a BIG HANDFUL of throttle at any time, the next moment you'll be doing some 'trick-riding'. But absent that, or some other questionable lapse of judgement, respect the bike, and it'll respect you. For touring I added a touring windscreen, Corbin seat, bags (removable) Heli Bars and a 3/4" riser, and 'Buell' pegs. All of this can be had from board sponsors. Swap it all in an hour or so, I'd guess (for racing). I never tried riding very far on it without these accouterment so can't answer for how the 'Busa does stock in that. Except the seat. For my money, the stock seat is not good for very far. Unless you're a Yoga guru (or have teenagers) and can ignore the intense pain in your a**. As for drag racing, I think you'll be ok. I don't race, but someone told me these bikes will do 100 MPH in first gear. :slook: Oh yah, and welcome to the Org!
