Busa intimidating

:welcome: to the org! This is the kind of detailed, kind responses you can expect when you hang out around here. As you can see all very good answers and opinions for you.

Hope to you on your new Busa in the near future. :beerchug:

I am thinking of buying a busa and i have a few questions for the senior members of this board.I had a zx9 previously so im not new to bikes,my question is how many people on here for use there busa for everyday commuting?Im a little intimidated because of the reputation and am curious how it is for everyday riding?I am looking to commute doing the week and drag race on the weekends in comfort so i think the busa would be the best choice.
The busa is easy to ride, personally I think bigger engine bikes are easier to ride, because of the extra power at lower rpm's. It has very smooth controllable power

I think you did your homework:laugh: The bike is completly controllable, not edgy or nervous in the least. The quarter mile numbers tell what it will do if you choose to "unleash the beast". It doesn't happen by accident. :cheerleader:

:welcome: to the oRg. The Busa is a great bike and even though it can be sneaky quick; in the end it comes down to the rider and that riders judgements. A ZX9 isn't exactly a wimp.

I would tell you to get one, mainly because I have derived so much pleasure out of mine.

I'm 50. I bought my first Busa, a '99, in September '04 with 2900 miles on it. It finally gave up the Ghost in May with 80100 on the clock. (Yes, its a sore subject because I finally figured out what was wrong with it "after" I sold it... to a scammer. But I digress...).

Bought my second a month ago. '05 LE with 2500 on it and I'm at 5500 miles now.
Like my first one, it's my daily transportation. Gotta take advantage of SoCal weather. My daily commute is 100 miles, mostly stop and go freeway riding. I average about 20K a year on the bike, 5K in the car.

For a big bike it is extremely well-balanced at slow speeds and eerily well-balanced at high speed. The ability to get out of harm's way in any gear is fantastic. It does take a little getting used to around the city but it's MORE than capable.

It is big at first in low speed manuevering. 20 Mph and above it is point and shoot riding. see there........be there. Great because it doesn't constantly need gear changing to accomplish it. Great because it's stable on the road. Great because every single after market parts, piece and purpose manufacturer makes things for the Hayabusa. Truly versatile. 45,00 miles on my '05. Commute 20 miles one way.

I'm 52. I've put 20,000 miles on her in a year. Daily in the summer and as much as i can in the winter. Heli bar riser bars and buell peg lowering mod and a New Image Seat. Do a search for any of those to see what people say about them. I dont race, but am very comfortable on short trips and long all day rides.
It's been said many times..the busa is a sport touring bike. Go for it!

+1 great all around bike imo I am a commuter an tourer rider, But I have heard it was fast too:whistle:

Does all things well. 80,000 & counting.

The power is very controllable IMO

I ride on Harley runs alot and I have yet to accidentally rear-end one of them

Racerbrad I'm 58 and here's my take on the Busa. It's all about intelligence of your right wrist. The bike can be so docile and just putt around like it was a Harley (w/o the noise) or you can light the throttle and hit the after burners to Mach I if you want to. But here's the catch..... for your own safety and others when and where and under what circumstances you light the throttle and hit the afterburners is of maximum concern. The wrist action needs to match your skill level. That seems easy but testosterone manifests itself in many ways . Be the guy who rides within his limits and really that goes for all bikes not just a Busa. I've seen men seriously injured on 883 Sportsters for doing the wrong thing at the wrong time...ride within your limits and go home happy you rode. Learn to ride the Busa within your skill level and I hope to ride with you down the road. Wardie

+1, 58 here too, wit '08, orng & blk.

:welcome: I'm 59 and use her for daily comuting and I love it. smooth when I want and a rocket for passing. just got to respect the power. rode a few long days on her, several 750 mile days and 2, 950mile days back to back to get to the reno stampede and then did it again to get back home. Just get her, you will love the bike

I don't know how senior I need to be but I am 40 and have been riding for 30 years. I love it I came from gsxr's to the gen2 busa, my wife and I tour a bit and I ride hard solo it is a very versatile machine. The power is different than liter bikes you don't have to keep it spun up it makes power throughout the rpm range. I guess you could call it predictable power if you turn it to the stop it will predictably pull like hell until you let up. However with restraint it is very controllable. I guess what I am saying is first buy it second respect it.:welcome:

all well said. but it really comes down to this.. "The question you have to ask yourself is do you have enough self control to handle her".

The busa is no more intimidating than any 600CC bike in my opinion....after a few miles and you get used to the bike its going to feel slow anyway. I like it because it larger, more comfortable and has much more low end torque

our bike is so so fast. i needed chain and sprockets, i went with 17/42, wow what a different bike. lots more grab around corners, but rpm's higher now, more wear on the engine. i may change front back to 17 for this reason. buy it bro. enjoy the legend.

48 years old here (not yet a senior) and bought my busa (an '01, now sold) specifically for a 250-mile roundtrip daily commute (combo of city stop-and-go traffic, freeway stretches and mild twisties). No complaints at all...zero...nada :)

Thank you to everybody for the kind responses and advice, i already know where the bike is that i want.My buddy has a 02 model with a bunch of mods and he also has a Bob Carpenter Racing 1397 motor that goes with it.I wont even think about the bigger motor for a while till i get a lot of experience with the stock motor.I always just putted around on my old bike and saved full throttle for the strip(ive got 3 kids ive got to be careful)I plan :thumbsup:on keeping it stock length and just lowering it,im going to bracket race it so the absolute fastest times isnt my concern i just want to be consistent. It sounds like it is similar to my zx9 i had i loved that bike so im sure im really going to love the busa!
