Busa intimidating

Not a senior at 23 but I have put 40,000 miles on my 2007 in just over a couple of years and the first 25000 was in the first 8 months. My longest trip was 750 miles one way total weekend trip milage was little over 3000, my butt got a little sore not too bad though. Only thing against the busa which is mostly my fault, I am 5'9" with short legs I had some trouble backing up a hill I lowered it 1 1/2" all is well now. I ride to work 100 miles round trip everyday on the busa when its not raining or snowing, its great in traffic like it was said before it can easily get you out of harms way in any gear with its low end torque. On the weekends I try to curve as much as possible I have never got a knee down but I scrape the pegs pretty regular. Some people say you have to muscle it in and out of curves due to the size, however, I am 185 lbs with a medium build it doesn't wear me out and really doesn't seem to bad but I have always had a heavier bike. (honda shadow and a 600 Katana).
As far as a drag bike when mine WAS  all stock I ran a 6.94 at 108mph in an 1/8 mile. Take off killed me I was scared to have a payment on something I threw into a wall so I babied the clutch. I have not been to the track with the light mods I have now but it feels faster. lol
Either way its already bought just go ahead and pick it up and :welcome: to the .org

I'm 44, I've used my 'busa for commuting to work in the city; however compared to my bandit 650, I would say it doesn't make that great of a city commuter. Its a heavy bike so it makes panic stops somewhat tenuous, doesn't get that great gas mileage compared to a 650, and is a pain in parking lots.
However, if you mean highway commuting then its a good choice.
It's tame below 4000 rpm, after that make sure you are pointing in a straight line.

racerbrad, I readily admit I was intimidated by the Busa when I got her...so much so, that I went out and bought a VStrom 600 cc and got my confidence back and improved my techniques . I ride 60 -80 miles one way depending on which hospital I am working at. i put on over 5k miles this year and am so fond of this bike. Everything everyone said is true about this bike...brutishly powerful when needed...I would add she can kill you if you don't respect her...rock solid in the twisties...at 70mph and a heavy semi in the oncoming lane you barely feel the pressure wave she is pushing...so smooth ride...she just purrs...and in 6th gear at 4k you are doing 70+. I have changed windscreen, seat, helibars, and added Givi topcase and sidebags and still consistently get 45-50miles/gallon. She is a hybrid in my opinion and many on this org. feel that way...you can drag her, track her, cruise her, and commute her and she always puts that grin on your face...and Suzuki..and maybe I am just silly to say this...but there is no replacement for a good motor or her silky gearbox...I can't think of a bike I've owned or road that is worth the money that the Busa costs. Good luck to ya and welcome to the .org...2hip

Im definitely leanings towards getting a busa.I debated on getting another mustang for a while but i dont miss all the money and work i had to put into it to go faster and then once it was fast it wasnt that fun because i was always worried about something happening overheating, etc. Its still kind of a hard decision because in a car i could take my family places with me and the safety issue and ive been into cars longer but my bike was alot more fun. Ive never rode a busa but if its like my old zx9 i know ill love it.

For comfort you can't beat a Corbin seat, pardon the rhyme. I weigh 250 and can sit on mine for 400 miles with no butt-ache. There are more stylish seats out there, but the Corbin foam is miraculous.

I am only 29 but I thought I woud chime in.

It will feel diffrent intown doing low speed cornering. It will do anything you ask of it. Just remember your car will do well over 100mph. I am guessing you don't drive every where with your foot mashed to the floor. The Busa is the same way. You don't have to race every where.

Also I get 34ish mpg intown and if I am real nice and steady I have seen 59mpg on the highway. Normaly I run high 40's low 50's depending on the speed. Oh and if you are in triple digits the mpg nose dives.

The ZX9s were great, and comfortable, you'll love the Busa. Sold my last 5.0 11yrs ago so I could get my own streetbike(needed to pay cash so I could have liability insurance, full coverage then was outta site) Missed the car, sometimes still do. But never enough that any of my bikes, especially the Busa couldn't make me forget.
Feel ur pain, and my stangs burnt holes in my pocket. But how much does it cost for a mid nines, reliable, comfortable daily driver mustang? Endless! and never cheap. The cost of a used ,or even a new Busa doesn't compare.
Do it!

Yeah, u can't beat em. I put a gel seat on my 08 because it was half the cost, wish I'de waited and saved for the corbin. Had em on other bikes, best mod ever hands down!

Been through these states with mine, CA,NV,UT,WY,SD,NE,CO,OK,AR,TN,NC,SC,VA,NJ,MD,DE,WV,OH,MO,KS.... Great road bike.
Tons of aftermarket parts, used and new available. Very versatile machine.

hayabusa is sportier than the zx14 and it is better for everyday riding because has betetr handling. you will lov eit:laugh:

To sum it up...

It's really not so much about whether the Busa is the right bike, but how much time you have on the street and your past riding history(frequent accidents etc..). It's a bigger bike so it's less forgiving is all. something that is less forgiving can cost the rider his/her's life!

I'm 41 and 6'3". Done a couple comfort mods to aid in my riding pleasure. Been in casual riding trips to stop-n-go traffic and feel fine afterward.

I havent got a lot of experience on a bike,i started out on a 600 katana and i remember the first time i got on it a little bit i thought man this thing is going to be fast.Well that changed quick and i sold it and bought the zx9.I want a bike ai guess im just having a little bit of a hard time to definitely say yes because i really want to be around for my kids.Whenever i read the stories about somebody dying it scares me!

In that case, maybe you should get one that has a few miles and a few scrapes to get used to her. I bought a very pretty 06 with carbon trim, the whole works, 3 years ago.

I went down once- cost me $3K to get her back with no carbon. The Busa engine proved to be much bigger than my ego and riding skills. Now that I have put 20K miles on her, I know my/her limits.

Be careful! Worst case scenario- You do want to walk away from the crash.

Respect will be learned whether your ready or not.

It is a great bike to use everyday, Do a few mods and you can ride all day. I've got over 40,000 miles on mine and love every second of it. Good luck:welcome:

I appreciate everybodys input. The bike i want is a 02 model it has a ti-force exhaust, pirelli tires, and a bunch of other mods i cant remember at the moment. The bike is in md. and i live in pa. so i havent seen it in a while. We have a lot of nice mountain roads here so ill definitely look into a corbin seat for the long rides .Im really looking forward to do some riding again and the challenge of riding it to its potential at the track.

Still a newbie here and I love mine. I ride within my limits and it's perfect and very comfortable. The reputation can scare you at first but once you get on one just take it easy and you will love it.

same here, 31,000 miles on my 2007. I as well have the heli bars and the buell pegs and i am 5'11 at 260 lbs.
