This isn't like me but a few days ago when packed up and leaving for a day long ride, I was just putting down an expressway...no other vehicles until I looked in my rear view and saw a single bright light coming up from behind FAST. We came up to a red light (freeway onramp type) and this idiot on a ZX-10 starts doing a standing burnout right next to me! The light is long, the smoke blows away, there is nobody in sight anywhere. I notice his bike is really loud and modified sounding (with a shorty full system, tail section, etc.). I don't know why, but 59 yr old family man me rolls onto the ramp with this guy staring at me, goosing his throttle, so we blast off, ohmygod, how much will the bail be? I've only had my Busa a few months (bone stock except for carbon/stainless full Muzzy...not dialed in yet at all) AND WE WERE PERFECTLY TIED UNTIL I SHUT OFF 1/2 WAY THROUGH 2nd (about 125 mph?). I know how incredibly fast my bike is but didn't know in terms of comparison to an '07 liter bike! Now I'll always wonder what would've happened on the big end!

You'd have smoked him like a cheap cigar. I was playing this past weekend with a buddy and his CBR1000RR - once we got above about 130, i was walking away from him.

Unless modified to the extreme it would have been over at 160, if not before. Your post cracks me up. The perfect ending would have been for you to stop at the next light and remove the helmet.

Had you ever opened it up like that before? It is a rush, and people do not give credit where credit is due. Due to a lot of advances in the liter bikes, those guys are getting more cocky. All we can do is knock them back in line with a good reality check

Yeah, I've knocked on 170 a couple of times before--out in the Nevada nowhereland, it's just that I had no baseline to compare to other bikes (other than MC magazine test results). What I'm really excited about is that next week I'm puting on wheels, wave rotors, ss lines, tail, tires, power commander, etc. I've had over 50 bikes through the years, it's just, short of dual purpose exploration, this Hayabusa seems designed exactly for my high performance sport touring riding style! Has anyone out there popped for the wheel/brake upgrade? I wonder the results.

I did braided stainless brake lines, and that made a HUGE difference in the brake feel. From what I understand, rotors make an even bigger difference than lines do. You shoul dbe a very happy guy when you get that all done.

Sounds like rotors and lines next year

I put some SS lines on with the EBC pads and it was like night and day, I felt like i could stop on a dime, and the I could actually feel the rear grip and actually do a little work in the stopping power

Watch out for the newer liter bikes they got 8 years of technology on the ( Stock ) Busa.

yeah I agreed to that...brake is the most important thing for the rider...if that much more difference I will consider about it...its an expensive mod...

the zx10 is a retty sick machine, especially if he worked it a little.. But the Busa would have started creeing by after 135 or so and then once 165 came around, you would have started gaining space until you decided to slow down....
I raced an 06 gsxr1000 with my 01 busa, and he was with me to well over 150.... But it was my brother who weighes 180 and I weigh 285 so im sure if he had another 100 on his ike it would have been a little diffferent...

haven't seen a liter bike yet that can do a 1st gear roll on and stay with me in 1st &2nd.last time one ran beside is when I was short shifting at 9k through 1st & 2nd run, and he was slamed and running -1 up front. My busa is stock.1k was a gixxer1000.Now he has pipe & pc,busa getting +2 on rear,I'll get him, more to come.Me at 225,him at 155,my busa seems to be a strong one.

You need to act your age! You are giving those of us over 55 a bad name!

Next time, you be the one doing the stand up burnout and spank him like a rented mule!

Hmmm I dont know about that.  a lot of board members own both bikes and will tell you that the performance of liter bikes specially gsxr1k & zx10 is pretty darn close to the busa .

One of the guys i was deployed with last year just picked up an 05 ZX10 and it is quick. I have over 200 ponies on the ground and his is stock with a pipe, we were rollin on the HWY a couple weeks back and doing what i thought was 6th gear roll ons (65mph - 150ish) and he would pull about a bike lenght infront until about 120 then i would roll right on by. This was really bothering me so I tried a couple more times with the same results, finally to save face i secretly dropped down to 5th when he was out in front and the next roll on I blasted away from him.

Later that night we stopped off for a break and were talking and the truth came out, this knucklehead rides around on the HWY in 3rd gear so when i didn't hear a down shift i just figuired he was doing the same thing I was. Made me feel alot better, I truely believe that if he had as much done to his ride as i have put into mine over the past few years that he would have walked away and there would have been no chance of keeping up.

FYI the CBR929 that was riding with us got pretty pissy when we were doing this since he couldn't even begin to keep up. Sorry Honda guys, they just don't seem to be made for straight line speed.

You ran at those speeds with the 240 kit? or was it before you put it on?

Sully, your race sounds like me and my buddy. He has a Busa,me a zx 14.Both are piped.Seems when we roll on I am playing catch up.Our weights are within 20 pounds. He is usually down a gear from where I am,pretty funny all in fun.He takes it pretty serious.Having owned two busas,I would say the 14 is faster, the rest is rider. As far as the liter bikes they are all fast,if you could keep the front down the races would be a lot closer.Cheers
