Can I Handle the \'Busa??

You shouldn't have bought the Busa as your first bike. Why not buy it a couple of years down the road, once you have ridden a smaller bike and learned a thing or two, survived, and/or decided whether or not you really like the sport? What is this about buying the best? Why is that important to you? That kind of thinking can get you in trouble.

thankyou cavedweller, finally someone has put the age aside and looked at some facts. I tell all my friends that want bikes to start out on 600s or maybe (older)750s. it is way to much bike as in horse, wieght, ect.

wildcat, just because im 18 doesnt mean im "invincible". thier are memebers on here or older "rocket" riders who do crazier stuff than me. i never out ride my limits, especially when evading the police. i have ran like 7 to 8 times and never got caught. does that make me crazy? no. i just dont lose my cool and do like 140 mph down a crowded street. i take control and do like 60 or 70mph. thats all thats needed in heavy traffic. its brains over adrenalin.besides most "kids" can barely ride their bike to the limits because they went to big to fast.

Thanks for the advice guys, my 'Busa is being delivered tomorrow. I went to the dealer after work yesterday just to drool a little and couldn't leave with out it. The dealer made me a great deal--$9700 out the door and threw in a Jacket w/armor and 1st service free. I couldn't pass it up. I also bought a smaller bike for practice. I'm not a total fool. I don't plan to ride it until I go to school.

Busa as your first bike. Forget about it. Wrong wrong wrong. this bike has way to much power and weight. I suggest a honda hawk (around 1992) or a suzuki sv650 at the most both these bikes may be a little much but they are kool all around bikes for riding. Better yet go with a honda hurricane 600 1988-89 they are also good learners and if you drop it, and you will, you have no worries.
As for the riding school, it's a good idea but most schools will teach you on a 250. and you can't take the advanced course until you have some drive time under your belt.

The answer to your question is,"no", you can NOT handle the Busa. You are an idiot for even asking that question, and a complete and total fool(despite your disclaimer) for buying one before learning to ride.

I am only being rude to you to try to jar your senses into rationality.

If you have half the sense of a garden snail you will leave the Busa sitting for at least 3 months while you learn the basics(with pro instruction)on the smaller bike.

You won't, though. You think you know it all, otherwise you would not have bought the bike before even reading the replies to your question.

Another poser is getting ready to bite the dust.

Wildcat, I find that price you paid ($9700 out the door, which includes 8 1/4% tax) for a news busa plus the accessories to be a little hard to believe. It must be a used one, right?

And what exactly did you get for your smaller bike?

Take 100 CC's of Herion .... Inject into Crainum. I would never tell anyone to buy this as their first bike ! If you do I'll give you 2 weeks to live ! Don't get me wrong my Busa is my Love . But I've owned 18 bikes & 6 1100's. Busa has Superbike power & even after riding mine 6 months now the power can get ya into trouble quick. Just advice from a friend! It's no TOY !!! Its serious *** Kicking material!

Tax is only 7.75% in San Diego. The bike is new. I got such a good deal because I've known the dealer for a while--we grew up together. I had no trade...I bought two bikes...A smaller one to get comfortable with after I finish the riding course and the other, the Suzuki, is for when I reach a level where I feel comfortable.

Also, rememeber that many dealer's add about $700-800 in "handling" and "delivery" fees. Suzuki pays the shipping and the bike takes less than an hour to set up...less than $100 for labor. Don't pay it. I've even seen new 'busas for $12,500. The bike is nice...but not that nice.

Not to discount SlowHand's comment's---I'm sure his intent (although he's a little curt) is good. Am I an "Idiot" for buying this bike at a good price? Certainly not. Do I plan to jump out there this evening and drive this machine? Certainly not. Just having it in the garage is enough to satisfy me until the time is right.

Wildcat,

Enjoy the bike. The Busa rides like a Cadillac (ponderous and lumbering) or a sportscar (faster than your reflexes). Its all up to your right wrist.

Most of the guys on this thread resent you buying it as your first cause we like to feel like we are in some elite club. You'll do fine - just respect the power till you've got some experience and feel for the bike.

Best thing you can do is take some classes (MSF, then track) and learn the physics of weight distribution and frictional forces before you push it. Learn what causes a high and low side, and study some accident statistics to learn what most riders do wrong. Keep your head about you, think faster than you ride, and you'll have a blast. Lastly, remember that most cagers won't see you so you've got to be more strategic in you're lane position and riding lines to avoid them - the rules of the game are really diffenent on a bike than in a car.

Best bike I've ever owned.

Let me take a wild guess...Wildcat is having a mid-life crisis, after all these years of hard working for others, what is my dream since I was a kid?

when I started riding I promised myself no speeding

Now, on the Busa if I don't see 130/140 mph on the clock during any ride I feel cheated

Nuts ;)

"...speeding is not my style"?!?!?
I guess you'd also like to have the most beautiful woman in universe even though "****ing is not your style"!!!

A bloody waste I would say!

Booost has spoken!

Till I got the Busa I'd never gotten a single speeding ticket. I got the bike in December and I've received two speeding tickets already. The Busa makes you do things you never thought you wanted to do.

I now devide my life into two halves: Before Busa, and after Busa.

c_rod2000 says,

"wildcat, just because im 18 doesnt mean im "invincible"."

I KNOW, YOU JUST THINK THAT YOU ARE.

c_rod2000 continues,

"thier are memebers on here or older "rocket" riders who do crazier stuff than me."

SO, ACTING CRAZY IS OKAY AS LONG AS THE OLD GUYS ARE DOING IT?

c_rod2000 continues,

" i never out ride my limits, especially when evading the police. does that make me crazy?"

NO, JUST IRRESPONSIBLE

no. i just dont lose my cool and do like 140 mph down a crowded street. i take control and do like 60 or 70mph. thats all thats needed in heavy traffic. its brains over adrenalin.

BRAINS? WHERE?

I wasn't going to entertain a response to this, because I thought you might be kidding. Others have pegged me as an idiot for buying this bike as a novice and asking the question, "Can I handle the 'Busa?" Yes, my decision to buy the bike had been made, but at least I searched for information to help me through my transition towards being competent and responsible.

c_rod, my brother is a funeral director and he often puts guys guys like you in a box who ride (err..rode) "like 60 or 70" . . .[in heavy traffic] as (after) they run (ran) from the cops. Running from the cops is not worth your life or the life of the person you may hit while being chased. If you can't afford the tickets, perhaps you should not ride or don't speed.

Again, that's not my style...it's enough for me (or my bike) to know that I can do something (e.g., go fast) without having to prove it to someone who would challenge me (when competent). That's just a waste of gas.

You say, "its brains over adrenalin." I see the adrenalin, but not the brains.

Wildcat,
After you start riding the Busa promise you'll come back and tell us honestly how fast you've had it. I bet you it will be faster than 70mph.
LeeMI

Wildcat, if you can get that good of a deal on a busa, buy it. I bought my first motorcycle in 98' a new 96 RF600. I didn't even know how to ride a bike, my dad had to ride it home for me. After two months I was sick of that turd and sold it for a new ZX-11. After a month, I piped, jetted, dynoed, and raced the $hit out of it for 15k miles. Then I bought the BUSA. Buy what you want and learn on it and you will become a better rider on that bike. IF you are level headed and can control you wrist, you be ok, if your crazy, wild and a show off, don't buy it cause your going to die. Be mature and you'll be ok, after all your 34. IF you were 17 or 18 I'd say no way to a Busa, just act your age. Dont waste money buying and then immediately selling these bikes cause you're out growing. Buy what you want the first time, don't be stupid on it, pay attention to what you are doing, wear safety gear and ride on bro.
