Capacity versus technology

To afford the petrol to run a V8 DAILY down here you either have to be a drug dealer or a job earning $100K + a year or able to claim as a business expense....

Love the sound of a 'V' engine

If the Merc and the likes new engines do not meet ever lowering emission standards its not going to matter what outputs are going to be.

Here too especially with a supercharged V8. Gas is in the mid $4 range most everywhere, but, it’s soooo nice having that power.

Here is Mercedes's new high technology high performance engine, a 2L putting out V8 horsepower. And it will be used in everyday driver cars.

Everything is going the 4 cylinder route, so what is your preference? Would you rather have large cubic capacity at high horsepower, or high horsepower from a small high tech motor? It is kind of like a 1k bike putting out more horsepower than a 1.340k bike, except in the case of Merc, that is magnified significantly.

Personally, I love the sound of a smooth 6 and the grunt of a V8, so for me the new trend is a bit disappointing, however I believe the environmental greens will probably be pleased with a smaller carbon footprint.
I have this car! GLA45 AMG. It's a 4 cylinder beast! Sound is amazing. I eat Lambos with it lol. Never see it coming. I find number of cylinders isn't as important as it used to be. Hell my farm tractor is 3 cylinders and it's 110hp, which is a lot for a tractor hahaha. Personally I'll take a smaller engine if it matches the HP rating of a higher cylinder engine. Have to overbuild a small engine to make it perform to that level. Stronger materials and better engineering.

Now when it comes to motorcycles though. I'll take CC and torque over HP. I'm a big guy and don't like feeling like I'm riding a toy. Even if its a blazing fast toy. It's gotta have size and mass.

A very nice read on this tech salvo. Mercedes Racing is paying off. Laying down some serious numbers!
