Clutch lever falls off 05 busa with 350miles!!

I bought a 2005 Layabouts about 3 weeks ago with 1 mile on it. Me and a couple friends (one on a busa 05 as well and other on 04 gsxr600) took advantage of the good weather today and went out on some twistie/straightaway in the country with minimum traffic. I got next to my friend with the busa to see how much his bolt-ons have changed his power verse stock downshifted to 2nd gear and we hit it at 70 mph to redline. I lost by 3 bikes but when I went to press my clutch to up shift the entire clutch lever assembly fell off at the bolts. I was traveling about 125 mph when this happened and luckily didn't panic slowed down letting the engine brake the bike and pushed the shifter into N and pulled off the road. I have about 350 miles on mine same as friend with busa, he bought his out of a different dealer then me due to they ran out when I went to go get mine. I called my dealer (they are about 50 miles away) and told them what happened with some loud tones and words but they told me they had no one available to pick it up (I'm out in the woods 15 miles from civilization). I called my friends dealer and they were very helpful and gave me the number to Suzuki. I called Suzuki and they said that my friends dealer could tow it and they would pay for it and that they could also fix it. The FUCCKS at my dealership CYCLEMAX OF WILSON NC where ##### asses and only agreed to pay for the tow and gas after I told them I was going to sue their ass. What should I do??

... in the same situation I probably wouldn't even have called a dealership.

just pushed it up to a few miles and hour.. hopped on and popped it into first and rode it like basically normal to the dealership and got it fixed..   going clutchless really isn't that big of a deal on the road...  once did it for 14 miles on a dual sport REAAAALLY in the middle of nowhere on logging roads... was tricky,, but fun.

anyway..  since you already decided it needed to be towed I guess i'd find a new dealership somewhere..

I would definatly remember the attitude for anythign else you need to buy from the dealership.

There is obviously an issue with this clutch lever bolt tightness on the 05's.

Get a lawyer and file a lawsuit , your life was put in danger...350 miles? Pathetic.

Did it brake off or just come loose

It's a mechanical device.  Shooting for respect at the local dealer will get you blown off so fast...

Put it in second, push it as fast as you can down a hill, and pop the clutch.  Ride it to a dealer ....and pray they have another clutch lever in stock.

The fella's at the dealer just wan't a little respect too.  They didn't screw the shitty clutch on, and Suzuki won't pay them for the trip to fix it.  Who wouldn't wan't an excuse to take off from the shop for a few hours and pick up a standed bike?

Get over it.

Call your dealer and ask if they have the part in stock, and be nice this time.

My two cents...

Travelling 125 mph with 350 miles on the bike?? Good break in I guess. Hopefully you wear more gear than what you have on in your pic.

....Oh, and the truth is I lost my clutch lever twice.  Once at around 120mph on the highway and once at around 5mph in a parking lot.

Does anyone disagree?...  No clutch at 120..no sweat,...... no clutch in the parking lot........brutal!

Spoolin, we have to get together for a ride sometime. Exactly how far are you away from Charlotte?

Sorry to hear about the clutch assembly coming off!

So the clutch lever just fell off like on the ground?! wow. you shouldnt have been using it to up shift anyway. hey i think if yiou buy a new busa you should give it the once over to make sure everything is tight as i've been hearing a lot of things poping loose on these new bikes. as for the clutch lever, they cost about 30 bucks get some black ones and consider them an upgrade

should have laid it down and sued. No not really, but would make for an interesting lawsuit if you crashed due to lack of a freaking clutch lever.

Dealer is not liable for loose bolts, neither is Suzuki. It's like saying you bought a new car and drove it 300 miles and the tire went flat but no nail. If no roadside assistance is offered then you need to resort to the warranty. If both deny the obligation to tow you're on your own. Now prove it wasn;t assembled properly (ie: thread lock was not applied where it should had been) then you have a case, somewhat.

there's good reason manufacturers, advise buyers to get a low mileage first "checkup". Its exactly for reason like this. If you'd threatened to sue me, I'd told you to do so and hung up. Bluffs like that are not how to get people to help you.

Welcome to the board

...Do you think you yelling at your dealership got you that kind of a reaction from them

I know it their fault, I know it could have turned out to be a dangerous situation... but I think you should have given them a piece of your mind politely first

...if that does not work, you can yell at them ...
... if yelling does not work...
... you could sue them....
... and if that didnt work... then maybe you could shoot those bastids!!

Have a repaired 1

No disrespect, but not really. If a tire goes flat with no nail, that's not the dealer's issue but it is Goodyear's, Firestone's, Bridgestone's, or whoever made the tire's issue. The clutch is directly from Suzuki so they should be held accountable for it.

I was traveling about 125 mph when this happened.

I have about 350 miles on mine.

What should I do??
Buy a decent tool kit and start inspecting your bike before you ride it, that is what you should do......

The bolt on your clutch lever may have been loose when it left the dealership, if that is so, shame on YOU for not checking it, it did not loosen up in the span of that ride.

It is bad to assume, but I would bet that prior to this event you had not checked ANY bolts on the bike whatsoever. If you have'nt checked all the remaining bolts since, as was said before, hope you wear more gear than your picture.

You can not buy a motorcycle and treat it like a car, they do require a lot of care and attention, especially if you really want to feel safe at all.

This is not meant as a slam on you at all. It just gets a little old to see people fug up in life and have to find somebody else to blame.

Bottom line, the manufacture may have messed up, the dealer may have messed up, but the guy who opted to take a bike with only 350 miles on it to 125mph without checking the security of the bolts, totally messed up. You should be glad it was not one of many other fasteners that could have totally ruined your day, errrrrr life.....

Sue for what? About all you would get is the cost to repair the bike and the towing fee. You weren't injured. Your bike wasn't laid down for more damage. Get over it. Anybody who rides their bike in excess of 100mph and doesn't meticulously check over their bike is usually in for a rude awakening.

All you had to do was call a tow truck and have it towed to your dealer which even with just the manufacturer's warranty if you didn't by the extended, would have covered. And that's assuming the dealer wouldn't cover it (I've never heard of them NOT covering it). Your Suzuki warranty would cover the repair to the clutch lever as well. If I was the service manager and you called with threats, I probably would have responded about the same.

Riding your bike at that kind of speed before the break-in and initial service is just...well stupid.

Wow, you are calling this guy stupid? Ive seen newbs post that they have hit the limiter before break-in is complete , much less only 125.

I cannot believe all the flame posts in this thread, how can anyone possibly blame the bike owner for this...nobody should have to check anything but the basics on a bike with only 350 miles on it. Not to say that its not a good idea or that I or you wouldn't do it but you cannot possibly expect every bike owner to check something like this @ 350 miles.

Its Suzuki's fault PERIOD. If it did result in a crash , which it very well could have due to a panic response then Suzuki would owe this guy a new bike. If gone thru the proper channels I am sure he would get it too...it would not be the first time Suzuki has had to dish out a free bike due to their negligence.

For all the "Holier than thou" folks ....good luck keeping your rubber side down this summer...your going to need it.
