Common Admin courtesy?

You know, a number of us responded to a thread, including pictures and comments, and now its gone. Would it be anything more than simple common courtesy to post something about its removal? Maybe this forum isn't democratic but it shouldn't be a dictatorship either.

I wiill try to give you the best answer I can.

First off, this board is not a publicly owned or sold board. it is owned by one individual.

that one individual makes the rules. us admins try to follow those rules the best we can.

All of us vounteer our time, we dont get paid for it.

We dont get paid for the harrasment we receive sometimes for trying to keep this place family friendly.

We dont get paid or given brownie points for answering questions in PM's or in public (like I am doing now) we do it because we have a desire to help. bottom line is we dont owe anyone an explanation for anything.

And it is not like I am going to lose my non paying job here if I dont respond to someone. I could ignore people from here on out and it probably would not have much affect on my position here.

So when any of you get a response from an admin, know that you are getting a response ONLY because we care, there are no other factors involved.

I do give explanations sometimes. but if I remove a thread I usually send a PM to the person who started the thread and I will explain to them why.

I dont owe anyone anything, but if I do owe someone an explanation it is towards the person who started the thread I removed.

And I have been an admin here for a few years, rarely have I seen a thread removed without cause. and usuallly if a thread is removed most people participating in the thread should be able to get a sense as to why it was removed.

As i said, all of us admins have full time jobs, full time families, and a real life.

If we do something and dont make the reasons for our actions known to the entire community we either didnt have time, or didnt feel it was warranted.

now, with that said, what thread are your referring to? I have no clue but if you enlighten me and if I had anything to do with it I will try to enlighten you as to why

Rules were apparently broken. So the Admins zap the offending stuff.

Their house. Their :rulez:

If one finds the forum structure offensive, there are about a gazillion other busa forums one can consider.

Of course, if you really wanted to effect change, my suspicion is that a PM about the matter would be much better received than a slightly confrontational public posting to unilaterally declare what this forum *should* be.... :poke:

At least, that's my experience as Admin for several extremely large motorcycle forums over the past decade... :dunno:

Here's the short version: we don't have time nor are we inclined to hand-hold...

There was no thread pulled I bet CBX he couldn't get you to use 500+ words then not know what you were talking about.

Damn he wins (your $1.00 is on the way) :beerchug:

Seriously, I have been treated pretty fairly by the admins even when I felt I had reason to complain. So if they felt something needed to go hey I stand by them. I posted a thread about abortion and tried very hard to keep it peaceful, and it was, but it was locked and pulled. An admin mentioned that there was no problem with it but that they were afraid that someone might post offensive pictures. That never ever occured to me and I completely agree with the decision.

Thanks for the hard work. Keep doing what you do.

Based on the majority of the responses here I don't get the feeling that the admins are the least bit concerned with me or any others as long time contributors to this forum, with comments like these,

"And it is not like I am going to lose my non paying job here if I dont respond to someone. I could ignore people from here on out and it probably would not have much affect on my position here." Nice.....

"If one finds the forum structure offensive, there are about a gazillion other busa forums one can consider." Suggesting I should just leave and not voice an opinion, very encouraging....

"Here's the short version: we don't have time nor are we inclined to hand-hold..." Another gem...

For what its worth, it happened to be a post by a newbie (3-6 posts) about Obama's mama but some of us were encouraging the new guy to post up some pics of his motorcycles (if he had any) and to post in motorcycle related threads before jumping right into politics. It looked like it was working too...until the censors wielded their mighty sword.

Obamas moma's thread is gone ??? GREAT. I think I had like 10 posts in there that I'll never get back :banghead:

I left this forum once for eight months do to a remark by an Admin. and a feud between a couple of members.

I got over it. Maybe I took it the wrong way. Whatever.

I logged back on and with the exception of a few members (once again, whatever) have had open arms and welcome back courtesy. It's all good.

Still the "Best Damn oRg Show" in town!

Gee..how many post counts did I lose? :)

We had received numerous complaints about the thread being offensive to people. Usually one complaint about a thread being offensive is enough to pull it.

If you are concerned with one person with a few posts staying on the board and posting pictures of their bike, send them a PM, it doesn’t require an antagonistic, racially centered, hateful thread to stay up just so we can encourage the author to stay on the site.

Not sure if I want someone like that on this board anyway, I am surely not going to bend rules or go out of my way to convince them to please stay so I can add to the list of people I need to keep an eye on.

And you stated, as long term member you know the rules, you know how we operate, you shouldn’t even have to question why it was pulled.

But because you asked, there is your answer

Don't worry young post 'ho...I usually just move threads to holding, so your post count is intact...
