cop shoots dog at dog park

Why would the owner bring an obviously abused and dangerous dog to a dog park and release it off-leash with other animals? The dog's owner is more culpable in this case than the officer.

ya I bring a weapon everytime I take my dogs to a doggy park , If My dog gets in a squable I do the old fashion way , grab my dogs collar and break it apart. ya I got bitten b4 and endure far worse pain , how about a shot in the air first?

"Obviously abused and dangerous dog", are we reading the same article or are you making this up as you go along? Yes the dog was abused but there is nothing that indicates he was dangerous, if anything the opposite has been attested to by people who knew him. The one thing that we can be grateful for is this Fed Cop didn't take his kid to the kiddy park, he would have shot somebody's little Johnny for pushing him down in the sand box.

+1 These dogs will usually fight until one submits, never to the death or fatal injury. Usually yelling at them will break them up, I have taught all of mine over the years that when I yell "OUT!", they stop doing what ever it is they are doing immediately. This Fed had his dog on the leash and he could have easily broken them apart, we don't know what kind of a Federal Cop he is (should be was!) but he is obviously a Boy Scout with a gun. You don't go into a public park and start popping off caps because of a dog fight.

So the cop was in fear for his life, right? Pretty sure thats when it okay to shoot and kill people/animals.

Maybe his shepard was a pansy and was gettin its butt kicked and he didnt like that:whistle:

I don't fault the guy or blame him at all for carrying in the dog park with his wife .
In public with two of his most valuable possessions ?
Sure I'd be carrying too .
Many of us carry in public everywhere so on that it doesnt bother me .

Poppy I made comment about Rosie my attack chihuahua scaring police Shepards but didn't mean to imply I thought Shepard involved was a K-9 .
But be careful if I speak one or two certain words in spanish Rosie will go Tasmanian Devil on you and your done

I'm upset he could not be more patient in his decision to shoot the dog ?
I'm upset owner was not close enough or Husky wasn't trained enough to prevent the 'frisky playing' which obv pissed the cop off . My cousin has a dog named tiny . She's the sweetest dog you can imagine but she looks like a pitbull and when off leash in the park she will run over to folks hoping to get a rub but they not knowing her are scared crapless . It's wrong and I tell him all the time that .
If both or all dogs are off the leash most of the time they will run and play as friendly as can be but let one loose dog approach an owner and his dog who's still on leash and that dog will act differently. His instinctive defensive manner will most often overpower him and a 'fight' will occur .
(I watch 'The Dog Whisperer' ) :)

Man, I am glad that was not my husky and I am also glad I dont carry a gun cuz if I did there would be a dead cop and a dead dog:whistle:

I look at it this way. Would the officer, his wife, or his dog have survived if he had not shot the dog?

Most likely even if it was a full on dog brawl...they all would have walked out alive. I see no reason for killing a dog unless it is attacking a human, or if it has my dog by the neck (or other vulnerable situation).

Now if the shepherd had teeth marks on its jugular, or otherwise open wounds from the husky...I can buy self defense. But otherwise, the officer is completely in the wrong.

question, who brings a gun to an off leash dog park! whather you can or not.... I have a full carry ( I am in law enforcement) and carry like 1 time a month maybe. bet he was a rookie and liked the feel of the weapon on his side

Blanca, my comment concerning K-9 was from a different posting, not you. In part it stated........"pretty sure a police canine German shepherd wasn't in to much harm from the husky". Nowhere in the article did it state the shepard was a police dog. Some folks(not Blanca) need to re-read the article and try to leave their emotions in check.

Also, the internet is full of tough guys/gals behind their keyboards spouting they are devastated by reading about this issue, but in turn would shoot a LEO and they don't even know the facts.

As far as where you carry, why shouldn't someone carry in a dog park? ???

Anyway, I'm just thankful the majority of the posters in this thread are not Detectives in my area, they would solve crimes from behind their computers after reading a slanted news article, without knowing all the facts.

Before any flaming starts, please know I am a dog/cat person.....currently have a cat and a red eared turtle, recently had to euthanize our boxer due to a tumor and seizures. We had adopted the boxer from a local boxer rescue and she suffered health problems and she did have a few behavioural quirks! So please don't think I'm not an animal person.....I am.

I thought LEOs are required in Florida to be armed 24/7 on duty and off ?
As an off duty police officer you only carry once in a while ?

C,mon, bringing a firearm to a dog park is like bringing a firearm to church.
Do you bring a firearm to church?

Am I to assume you can tell good places from bad thus knowing when you may or may not need a gun ? Do you only go places where there are no criminals and never has been a shooting of innocents in a place similar ?
Hmmmmmmmm

J/k but I think you get my point .

Imp to know where and when , better to be prepared at all times .

I don't distinguish between places I carry and would not carry . As I'm not psychic I don't know when or where some snapperhead may go crazy. I carry when I leave the safety of my home . There have been numerous shootings in and around churches so the answer to your question is yes I would and well....

if i was the owner and some pice of **** scum bag trash pig shot my dog i would of pulled my guy shot him in the head then lead instanty...and 6 months later i would be free...trash ass pigs..how about the cop who shoot the guy on the bike in georgia for speeding..hoe about the cop who shott the guy in florida in the head for doing wheelies..how aboutthe cop who beat the 17 year old boy to death for running..there all pices of **** who think they can do anything thats why i keep my gun on me and i will shoot them back..and my lawer always tells me when u do it act like u went crazy...pigs are scum bags more them some thief or robbers some times....my heart goes out to the owner...

LOL, let me tell you something son, I guess i am not as paranoid as you are everywhere I go.
There's help for people like you.

I just cant believe some of ya think its ok to shoot a dog in a dog park.

What if he was not an off duty police officer? Would it still be ok.

I take it that there are a lot law enforcement people in this forum and ya all stick together cuz he was an off duty police officer that shot the dog.

I know whats right and wrong and what he did by shooting that dog was wrong.

If that was my husky in that dog park and I carried a gun, they would have one dead off duty cop and one dead husky.
I am just speaking my mind.

I have two dogs and they are like my kids.
