Custom Exhaust Installed

I dont think they look bad from the side either...better than the huge stockers

, but agree that they need to be slashcut and tucked in a little.

Come on man, the stock pipes look 100 times better. When I first saw this thread I didn't say anything, but if he didn't want honest opinions, I don't think he would have posted his work. IMO they look like crap. You don't pay 12K for a top of the line bike and then put home fabricated $80 exhaust on it.

I can appreciate everyones opinion and this is just the first attempt, a rough draft if you will, I will try to bring them in some more. I personally dont care for the slash cut pipes, they look stupid to me. I just wanted something a little louder between now and when I get the money for the Micron's. As far as someone talking about the loss of power issue I dont see it. The front feels a lot lighter now when I crank on it and it goes through the revs quicker, so short of having a dyno I'm not convinced I lost any power, although I'm not trying to convince you that I gained any either. As far as the folks that don't like the sound maybe you should hook up a subwoofer to your computer speakers because obviously your not getting the full experience, it sounds awesome.

Kudos for doing the work dude. I think its great you took it on yourself. Takes skill to make something like that. Whereas the rest of these guys only need money for their "custom" exhausts. There's nothing custom about a bolt-on product. What you've done here truely is custom and I respect you for that.

You lost horsepower, period.

I'm sure it feels more powerful, but any bike with drag pipes suffer from the same problem. It only feels like there was no loss of power, and maybe even seems faster.

You will however, get a benefit from your design at WOT. Around town, you lose.

I'm not looking to convince you of anything, but if you dyno your ride, the numbers will tell the tale.

Bottom line: If you are happy, then I think it was worth the time and effort you put into your exhaust.

Ride safe!

I don't believe there would be a loss of power with this set-up.  That "gotta have some back pressure" idea is a myth pure and simple.  Anything you do to reduce back pressure and increase flow after the header collector is free horsepower.  That especially applies in this case with a learning computer on board to adjust for the higher flow. Someone doing a $40 exhaust mod isn't likely to dyno the result for $150 but I'd be willing to bet this is worth 2-4 horsepower.
Sound is a little more subjective.  The aftermarket exhaust manufacturers certainly go for flow/horsepower as a primary goal for their designs.  Go grab 20 slip-ons and 15 of them will be within 1.5-2 horsepower of each other and make 4-6 more than stock on our bikes.  Almost any open pipe is going to have a low mean growl that most buyers would like. The fact that there are so many pipes with so many different sound qualities on the market attests to our differing tastes.  The manufacturers are usually trying to get a sound they think we will like without compromising any more flow than they have to.  And most of the options available to them to "tune" the sound affect flow to some extent.
I've got the big sub woofer on my computer system (it runs through my stereo), and this system sounds mean down low.  I'm not sure I like it in the higher RPM ranges as much. It doesn't sound any worse than 3 or 4 shortie systems that cost $300 to $500.  But most people would concur that the 2008 factory exhaust does not sound high performance and very few like the looks and size.  The best that can be said for it is that it doesn't draw attention or fatique the ears.
My personal opinion on my factory exhaust is that it has to go ASAP. I found a used 2BR Carbon for mine for $500, but I had bids in on a salvaged set of factory pipes that were going to go under the torch just as soon as I could get them.  I may still mod my stock cans now that I'm getting something else.  Ultimately I'd like a 4 into 2 full aftermarket exhaust, but no more money for that right now.
I think you have to commend someone who will put thought and effort into a project like this that improved power, sound, and (maybe) looks. And did it for next to nothing
For all of those that have a grand or better to drop on an exhaust, thats cool. I'd kind of like to see what Akrapovic and some others come up with before I make the big decision.

Cut him a break. It may not be the most prudent modification, but if it makes him happy, so be it. After all it's his bike.

I'll give him credit for taking it upon himself to turn a wrench himself.

The dude's obviously proud of what he did, and wanted to share his accomplishment. Some of you had to stomp his ego into the ground. That's just wrong.

Having said that: DUDE! You got the world's fastest, and most amazing machine on the street. You just lost a bunch of horsepower that you paid good money for. Take a moment, and rethink your customizing strategy.
Ditto!

I don't understand the flaming either especially when the next guy posts pics of threads sticking out of his back tire and asks "Do I need to look for a new rear?" and the replies are, try this tire or try that tire when what really should be said is get an education on tire maintenance.
Dude... you need help - try some kind of anger management or something and just let it go, please. Try to have a good day.
