Does the Captain want a New Busa?

Babuski:

I hope you have a nice time in Amsterdam. I used to live in Koeln (Cologne) Germany and frequently visited Amsterdam. If you have a chance, check out the National (Reichs sp?) Museum, it is one of the best in Europe. Sorry to hear of your stresses though. Nothing the Bull Dog couldn't sort out... they have great cake.

Travels aside, I will go with the consensus of the board. I was just throwing the idea out there... so let's hear the from the group. However, I still believe it is a big mistake to list each member's contribution... If you want to list it by member for bragging rights, list the donation by % of income, not by absolute dollars contributed.

Doc Out.

if Doc would feel better and not to posse the head ach on to anybody else, I would take on the job of keepin up with the money. I have a pay pal account set up already. I would be willing to open up a new account at my bank just for this money (helps having the bankin on speed dial and do all of his repair services.).

Just a thought. I have meet a few of the guys and gals on the board and think and hope that thay would vouche for me being a guy worth all of your trust.

Let me know what you think. And by the way, Im just three hours away from Cap and I would be more than happy to take him shopping when it was all said and done.

Let me know people.

Jester:

I almost suggested you! I trust ya, even though you are a Texan... hehehe... no, I will go with the general consensus vote....

I vouch for Jester! He has been here forever....

I also suggest we start an anonymous poll BEFORE we start taking collections to see where we are... Say a poll with $10, $25, $50, $75, $100, over $100 catagories.

In the end, if we don't get enough for a Busa, I liked the idea of a gift certificate or cash gift.

After only knowing him for a couple days I gave him the key to my Busa in a parking lot and walked away.     It was at Laguna after his bike blew up so he could atleast ride the parade lap.  If that isn't trust I don't know what is.

Maybe I am missing something here... But, why not just send the mullah to Captain?? Then, he could buy the bike without any worries of gift tax or anything. Plus, we could then use paypal and everyone would be happy! No one has to be "trusted" to hold the money, and Capn gets the color and year he wants! I am sure it will be Black and Grey by the way!

 Good question.

And another question, If you have people give you the money to buy a new Busa why would you pick one of the slow ones?:super:  Blue and Silver, Baby.

OK, i;m in for $100. I suggest that someone start a spreadsheet with names, e-mail, and max amount. Keep it updated and send out periodically. In about 30 days, we can see where we are and go from there.

Greg

BTW, my local dealer has a '03 that he will sell for under $9,500. We do not have to pay max price for this. Let's be smart.

I just read the whole thread, I think this is a great idea and you can count me in.

I think someone(Doc or Jester or someone everyone trusts) should set up a PayPal account specifically for this. Keep a record of who donated and how much(not for braggin rights, just to make sure everything is ok). Once we reach a certain dollar amount or time limit then cut a check from the Paypal account to the other bank account.

We should do this only to make it more convenient for those who prefer Paypal. I know myself and I am more likely to login to Paypal and just do a quick transfer of funds before whipping out the checkbook and an envelope and then find some stamps and then remember to drop it in the outgoing mail box. Just how I am and I am sure there are some others out there like me.

I know there are some people who hate Paypal but it is an easy way to transfer money. If we get three or four more donations because we offer Paypal then it is worth it in my mind. Plus those members who have wives that balance the checkbook may have an easier time getting away with a Paypal transfer than explaining a check to the Mrs. :)

One other reason for paypal is that someone can drop a couple of smaller payments rather than one larger payment without having to process multiple checks.

I think an idea of a poll(someone else suggested) with money ranges that people can anonymously answer to would give us a better idea of how much we can reallistically get. Someone could post they would donate $50 to look like a playa when they only want to donate $20. Someone may have already started this poll, I havent been on much the past few days.

What do you guys think?

PS - I think this is a truly awesome idea since Captain has spent who knows how much money and time on us, thanks Cap.

One other thing, if Captain does get a bike that means less time for him to work on the site, maybe we should get him a scooter so he won't spend so much time riding :)

OK guys and gals! Doug in not so many words said YES! and he DAMN well deserves it!!!!! ALL of us has received way over $100.00 of knowledge. Don't be a cheap SOB!! :tounge: I'm in for $100.00 or $200.00 if capt comes to Laguna next year for the HOG love fest!

I vote the PURPLE busa! Come on Doug........... ya dont have say in it anymore as to whether or not your getting one......so what color do you want?:super:?:super:??

PS...I have a factory Carbon fiber look Suzuki tank bra to add into the bundle!

Is Ninja the point man on this? We need an address!

OK Well I would like to see Ninja Eater take the reigns here if he has time and the inclination.  This effort is going to take some time and effort though.  It is going to be a decent amount of work for the next several months...  So make certain you have the time enough to do it right...

Also, we cannot send the money directly to the Captain because I believe he would then be subject to a variety of taxes.  Not to mention that if I had other expenses that needed taken care of and I had this pool of money sitting there, I just might if I needed it dip into that here and there.   I mean fair play to the Captain, but if we keep him out of it until it's time to deliver the 04' Busa gift certificate or Cashiers check payable to his local suzuki dealer the better off he will probably be.

Oh and as for Jester's offer...  I do not know Jester, but I do know that he has been pretty scarce around here.  Probably a good thing, It means he is taking care of real world things.  But what concerns me is why would this change?  Why would Jester suddenly start hanging around more often? Would Jester Have the time to dedicate to this effort, and to keep everything in order?  I am not saying he has to freaking live here like I seem to, but over all, does he have the time and the energy to dedicate to this effort?

Lets try throwing some Democracy at this thing shall we?

Lets get a list of Nominees? (A SERIOUS LIST) ;)
Then find out who among the nominees accepts the nomination, and are willing to spend some time and effort on this...

Then we take our Confirmed list of nominees, and set up a poll for the final decision. That way if the money walk away at least we were all duped.

I know this sounds sorta crazy, but it should provide us with the best person for the job, especially because we will be able to keep the special interest groups and Corporations out of this election. :) But seriously it would be a good way to finalize who the fish in the barrel is going to be.

Some possible criteria?
Time on the board, preferably a minimum of 6 months or so and evidence of activity on the board.
someone who has had contact with a lot of other board members, actual real world contact. Someone that can be vouched for financially. IE, someone to whom $10k isn't that big of deal. Eliminate the temptation by eliminating need, or potential greed. I mean, $10k isn't going to effect most of us one way or another, $10 million and you'll find me in Mexico, $10k not a big deal but we need to think about this... make sure the Captains money finds it's way to the Captain.
I recommend a secretary, or a recorder in additionto the money holder. When a Member donates some money they let the secretary know. That way there will be some redundancy and some oversight. Some checks if you will.

All of this sounds complicated but it should pretty easy to set up really. ;)

What do all of you think?:super:

Hey Rev...just an FYI. Jester has been around a LONG time dude. He's just a busy guy....ya know...crashing trucks and all :) ...seriously, he is one if the old timers here. He's a well trusted friend among us old folks. NE, or Jester is a fine choice. Yeah I was afraid I was sounding like a bobo.  I know he has been around since the early early days.  But that really isn't what I was trying to get at.  Mostly it's time available to handle this and willingness to put up with the BS that is going to pop up along the way.
Ninja Eater is here almost daily, that is the difference.  Nothing against, Jester, like I said I don't even know him, not meaning to imply a lack of responsibility or distrust.  Seriously...

Though he is in Texas... His geographic location is Ideal, for taking the Captain Bike shopping!!

OK I started a Poll so people can reply to how much they would actually donate, please be honest if you are voting, it is anonymous so you can vote for whatever amount you want.  Please do not vote if you do not intend to pay.

:D Props to Doc_Busa for the idea, I just ran with it, hope you don't mind big guy, I forgot to put this in the original post :D
