Until some one gets one to a track (or dyno), it's all guesswork. I'm very impressed with the assumptions made based on the bore and stroke with as little info available. Head flow, piston speed, reciprocating mass, ignition and fuel curves, were all left out of the article. Not enough info here. Comparing the fuel injection to a top fuel car and Indy car was very funny though. I don't know squat about Indy cars. Nitro cars inject fuel before the blower, right after the blower, and then again in the port. I think it's cause with an air to fuel ratio of about 4 to 1 it's hard to get all that juice in there.

ZX-12 looks like a fun bike. Wait for some real test results before you draw your conclusions.

Hey good try on the redline calc's, but the redline for the ZX12R is not 12.5k, it's more like 11.3k. Hell the tach only goes to 11.5k.

I agree with DP's observation that the dragbike article is the same reconstituted press release Kawi has been "leaking" to the press for the past month. The marketing people at Kawi must be having fun with us. You know that they are reading this board and getting all warm and fuzzy with themselves for their brilliant marketing strategy. If they are reading this please go choke your selves you sadists.

Maui is right Kawasaki has provided just enough info to tell us nothing but let the conjecture fly in six different directions at once and they might have one simple innovation in this motor that blows every principle out the window. Who knows? I don't know if you all remember the soap opera release of the 900Ninja back in 83-84 but this is dejavue in a big way.

Wait and see real test numbers then post.
Dragbike.com has not tested, weighed, or dynoed this bike either.

Sorry about the double posting. I checked out the BB but didn't hit refresh, my cache should no posting yet. You beat me to the punch on the ZX-12R dragbike article. I think the basic specs are the same, however lower the center of gravity can make a big difference for flickability. Dropping the gas tank low could prove to be a good deal. Other than that it is up to the airplane tech's to see how is more slippery. Kawasaki has a standard looking style but maybe the little fins and deflectors will prove out well. Unfortunately I will most likely take delivery before a mag test is done. Hopefully the mag's will get a bike before me, if I am lucky it will stall until early next spring. Maybe some testing the initial bugs will be worked out.

Notice in the specs they say..."180 estimated horsepower" estimated? What kind of crap is that? That all I have heard about this bike, estimaated this and that, I take it like folklore, seeing is believing.
Peace,
Ranger

Ordinary looking bike with a butt ugly plastic bit sticking out.

I think I would make the extra bhp somewhere else if my Ram Air needed that yoke. ugh.

Nope. I'm sticking with the Busa.

Oooh. Look what they say in this bit

"Additionally, the ZX-12R has a passenger seat cover, that easily attaches to provide a sleek and aerodynamic custom appearance"

Wow. What an innovation. Never seen that before on a bike. Hang on while I attach my thingy on the back of my bike that covers the passenger seat. :-)

Honestly, I've been waiting for the ZX-12 for the last 2 + years, I guess I will wait for the ZX-13, unless Suzuki comes up with the GSX1500 RR. :)

In the meantime that 2000 "Fat Boy" looks mighty good, hmmm. . . .

Short stroke engines loose out when aftermarket parts are installed...remember this..it was told to me by a old car drag racer that built thousands of drag engines in his lifetime and it is still true today ....there is no replacement for displacement... its always easier to make a big engine run....period......

Here we go again.

This time it's juvenile insults from an impotent proctologist who can't spell and has no grammatical skills.

Just out of interest Dr. VegasZX...how does an illiterate get to be a doctor of anything?

Let's be real here, it's what you like as far as looks. " We didn't build it to be slower than a Suzuki" It may not be 20 mph faster, but it will be faster and quicker than a busa. And my guess is it will be 20 lbs lighter with fluids.

"There is no replacement for displacement" yes that's true in most cases, but, there is an exception to every rule "cubic dollars" have been able to overcome just about anything. Also, bigger is not always better. The over all combination must map out. I've seen guy's throw money at projects to no end with poor results. "There's no replacement for good engineering"

Rod ratios.

I've been trying to no avail to find out what the ratios are for these two engines. Piston speed is a function of rod length, not rpm's. This goes back to good engineering.

Did you get the bore and stroke for the ZX-12 yet?

Bore 83.0mm

Stroke 55.4mm

That is shorter than my zx-11.....somebody is really trying to get allot of power from 1199cc......
