Excessive Speed

I just got done reading a thread on a fellow rider being killed while at excessive speeds.

I know some of you ride the speed limit always, but with this kind of bike, I can imagine the amount of temptation to go toooo fast.

How do you decide where/when/how long to go fast...(whether it be 90MPH or 100+)...

I'm going into LE, and don't like to see people get hurt. From all of these squids getting hurt/killed I have a feeling going to rider getting hurt/killed accidents is going to P!SS me off pretty quick.

So my questions to you guys are...

1.) How do you decide where/when to go fast? What are all of the variables that make up the equation? (I know some of you other LEO's have a need for speed from time-to-time as well).

2.) What would be an "ideal" place to "twist it up?" (Explain what kind of place/road you prefer).

3.) If LE lights you up, would you stop? (Personally, I don't think it is EVER right to run, it is putting others and yourself in danger. And that includes the LEO that is pursuing).

I wouldn't want to run and have the LEO die in a crash BECAUSE I ran...don't think I could live with it on my conscience.

This is just for my curiosity, I want to get this info from the people that are non-LEO, (Officers are plenty welcome to respond too however), I just want the opinions and thoughts from you guys on when you justify excessive speed.

Thanks guys!

 I would NEVER RUN, If i get caught i go by the saying "if your gonna play be ready to pay" I do however rip it up once and awhile but only on a open road and when no other cars are around. The best place is a closed course.

And if you don't want to respond publicly, I would appreciate a PM...:please:

Just want a general consensus on this topic...;)

the track is always best... i haven't seen any roads yet that you could open her up comfortably on for any length of time... just too many variables/things that can happen. It just takes 1 dumb mistake and your life or the lives of others could be ruined forever. Just my $.02.

WOW! This sounds like a thread to find the best spots for you to camp at, but after seeing so many threads about rider deaths lately wth. I require a straight roadway with no cross streets, intersections, or drive ways of any kind. No cornering, hills, and most importantly no cagers or any kind of traffic in front don't want to roll up behind anyone or pass someone at a high rate of speed. Then I would let it loose and back off if any of these circumstances change. Yes i know what a waste of a Busa's ability, but I believe that knee dragging an cornering and the high speed flyby's should stay on the track. Public road no telling whats around the corner or who's going to pull out or change lanes or whats on the other side of the crest of that hill. Always stopped for LEO,never even crossed my mind to run, take a ticket an go home, but with the new FL penalties I am not sure I would stop. :( My group rides are usually with a VTX a Shadow and a couple of choppers so I don't open it up, very rare are these requirements filled.

Nope, just wanted to see what you guys consider (a good place to open up).

Besides, I won't be patrol for 3yrs. anyway.;)

It was nice of the officer to cut your speed a little. +1 on better than being arrested/killed while running.:beerchug:

1&2 out in the middle of NO WHERE with no houses and drive ways or cross roads or stop signs or any signs of life, any other traffic, police or helicopters, on a strait road I'm familiar with, with no tree clumps for deer to dart out of

3. Yes, stop until the inviso-cloak is perfected.

I mean.... ONLY on a track

HUmmm Ok, I only twist it up on a Long streach of road with no Side roads , driveways, and with very little or no traffic.. I was an MP and also worked with the LEO's in Fl. My family is full of Leo's . I was asked many many times to join full time .. BUT I couldnt bring myself to it. Not to change the thread but your question makes me want to know something,. If I were to run at? 100MPH in a 65 and you do 110mhp to catch me , didnt you just break the same law I would be getting nailed for? and I know for a fact Depts' PUSH Patrols to get out there and serve tickets ( Pisssst it makes the gov. $$$) and the same idiots that make the laws are also the ones in the Gov. now and have the whole economy screwed up. Loggiest pay $$ to get laws passed and the Popo's collect . IE seat belts.. I can drive down the road on a Bike with no protection at all yet I have to wear a seatbelt in a 4 thousand pound truck? . Its about controal and $$$. I just hope if you get into or are in LE , You use common sence judgement. Sorry if I get off the subject!

No problem on getting off subject...:beerchug:

As for the running thing, I don't think LE breaks the law to catch someone running from them. Because if they are willing to run from the law, what else are they willing to do? Also, LE has lights/siren, and ways to make themselves visible to the public.

Just my .02

1) I know a couple roads that are just dead that I go to for some high speed riding, sometimes in group rides a couple of us will take off on the open interstate...alot of traffic is a no go though, been almost killed to many times.

2) when i had my 600rr i used to go to this spot that was a 3 mile straight that had 2 spots where there was absolutely nothing on the sides, now I enjoy this like i dunno 10mile road that has some bends in it and some nice straights.

3) Ya I would stop...in a big group ride i dunno though but im the only busa so id prob stand out

and im not gonna sit here and be one of those guys that says they only been up to 100mph or whatever....i ride with cops and at 140mph there right there with me, hell i had one of the guys partners come up to the group meet and told me that he wouldnt chase me if he saw me hauling ass, they cant spike strip a bike cause it will kill the rider and chasing them can cause a extremely high speed pursuit so they look the other way alot of times.

i ride with some guys that do 120mph stand up wheelies and all kinds of crazy stuff, last week i had a guy pass me doing 150mph in a turn with a girl on the back oh and he wasnt wearing a helmet or eye wear :poke:

to each his own i guess.

oh ya all this stuff is a lie and i only do this stuff on a track and my bike is restricted to 65mph

Is it expensive to go to the track????

Once you get the gear (leathers) and bike prepped it's not that expensive. Figure about $150 for a full day of unrestricted speed in a fairly safe environment. Well worth it. It's the only way to truly improve your skills with out all the street worries (i.e. old ladies, cell phone suv-ers, police, etc)

It's addicting.

Chris

I ONLY speed in out of the way places, no cars or pedestrians. If I crash the only person getting hurt is me, and I'm comfortable with that.

Depends if he is on your tail or gunning at the road side. If he's on my tail, I stop, he's got my number plate anyway. If he's gunning at the roadside I twist it up so they don't bother chasing. We don't have many police copters in Ireland, so when you're gone, you're gone. They don't bother chasing unless it's any easy catch.

ill kick it up a LITTLE to get ahead of traffic in the fast lane... but if i plan on doin 100+ for any amount of time then it is on a desolate back road that i know and that i go up and down a couple of times to give the road a good PMCS.... then i will tear it up .

i wont run from a LEO, did it once and pait ALOT of money for it. but i was young and dumb. if they are behind me i stop.... if they are gunning like celtic said, ill keep on truckin until they feel like they wanna try and catch up:whistle:
