Gen 3 Trunk mods..... Who has started brainstorming on this already????

Stock length arms...

Using Greg's pic, knowing it's 2" lower and the extended trunk just kisses the tire without a rider. With the pivot I'm thinking of arc'ing the existing enclosure to retain as much room as possible. My dilemma is, how much suspension travel should I account for?

The blue arc is around 1" for reference, thinking min of 2"? More?

ideally i would think all of it, i think i saw 5.5: as the rear shock travel, i assume that is at the shock directly. If i get bored i could look at taking the spring off and cycling the rear suspension all the way until the shock bottoms out with stock tail, height, and lowered and with your trunk etc. No engine in the bike at the moment so that shouldn't too terribly difficult.

I tend to think the same, especially since Suzuki put the little hump bump on the stock undertail that I removed.

Don't go too much out of your way, me and that spring did not get along when I removed mine. I guess more so reinstalling the HD one, but it wasn't fun process in the slightest. Car springs are much easier, lol.

Bro just let me know when you're ready and I'll drop my bike off so you can take more measurements.

100% for sure. Just want something in hand to test fit, but on your bike will be easy to test.

I played with the a few things last night, to see what I ended up with. The place of wheel contact without being extended eats up alot more space than I expected, but stock arms still can gain some additional room.

This is a little less than 2" shorter around tire contact area on Greg's lowered bike. I could keep area on right side of pic, but access would be limited by size of your hand/fingers. Greg, there potentially could be room to fit your stuff in there though. TBD, but will see.

The pink is all extra space compared to stock. It's close, but I believe can fit 2-3 20oz Gatorades (using it since larger than water bottle) under the hump.

I guess Suzuki people never spent enough time lurking the forum to see how much we all love the “trash can” mod. I’m at a loss as to what to do with my tool bag and mini compressor. This gen3 barely has room under the seat for registration and battery tender plug.

I think it's clear at this point that Suzuki could care less about the Hayabusa, or their bike department in general anymore.

I bought a Nelson-Rigg tail bag for my Gen III Busa a few weeks ago and it works perfectly to store my air compressor, gloves, glasses, hat and a couple bottles of water. It doesn't work to well if you ride two up but it's pretty easy to put on and take off. I ordered it from Revzilla and its a top quality product at an affordable price.

Thanks for the suggestion.
Suzuki screwed this up.....again.....

They make a bike that is good for long distance high speed runs yet give it very little on board storage....they were more concerned over style than function.....

As the Hayabusa has been basically regaled to a sport tourer, you'd think they (Suzuki) would have put a little "tour" into it.......having a tour pack available would have been grand......a set of detachable hard bags would have been great in my opinion.

I agree 100%!!!! I read an article once where Suzuki acknowledged many Hayabusa owners use their bikes as sport touring machines so it surprises me they never built a dedicated sport touring bike around the Busa engine or at least added a touring package with factory panniers, taller windscreen, lowered pegs.

Big fan of the Nelson, specifically I have the `Nelson Rigg CL-1060-ST2`. Served me well when I rode to Canada last year to drop the bike off at RCC, and doubled as a helmet bag for the flight home!

EDIT: forgot the video was when the bike was stuck at gate pressure, so not a very fast launch haha

Couldn’t agree more. Under seat storage is non existent and hump is even smaller so can’t put my summer gloves in there, if I was to order one. I’m about to fire up my welder and modify my gen2 racks to make them fit the gen3 because, the top rack from SW-motech got even more expensive.

As we see, lots of riders on here are improvising luggage and carrying capacity.....If Suzuki had a clue at all, they would have offered hard racks for bags....apparently their engineers and designers were at bike meets in the US and frequent forums like this but never learned anything.

Defiantly following this thread very closely..........................My old 2004 Katana had 3x the storage.
As someone who tours on my bikes, storage is important without bolting on side bags and ruining the looks.
If these ever work with the factory swing arm and tire size, I'll be ordering immediately along with another factory tray as to no cut the original for the bike.

the rear bubble also has a plate covering it, so it doesn't really add any storage. so weird. I have half a mind to just cut out a big hole in the middle of that black piece underneath

My son has a 2006 GSX750F (Katana) and it has little storage.....he has a set of soft luggage for it though...

He kicked his arse because I offered him my 2000 1200 Bandit for nothing if he wanted it but he didn't as he liked his 750 better.....now he has regrets.

However I digress and wished Suzuki would have planned for the future better......

That has been a mod since the gen1, and even though the gen3 cowl isn't as tall, you could still gain a small amount of storage room.

My rear seat cover has quick turn wing nuts to remove the plate so it can be used for storage...I've never used it though...
