Going to court tuesday

I'm assuming you got a radar ticket? If so, just get yourself an attorney that specializes in Traffic only. He can get you out of the ticket and you probably won't even need to attend the court.

I have had a few tickets and haven't paid one yet. The attorney I use is $400 a ticket and he has beat them all and I only had to tag along on one ticket which was "Negligent Driving" as a result of riding up the freeway on one tire. He got me out of that one too, but I had to go before the judge. I have sent a number of my buddies to him and none have paid a ticket. He gives no guarantees but odds are certainly in your favor. The attorney told me his best streak was winning 870 tickets in a row before loosing one. I found that hard to believe but he swears it's true. But I have to give him credit where credit is due, I've not seen or heard of anyone loosing a ticket when they hire this guy.

Just find the right guy, they are out there! It's in your best interest to keep your record clean.

Good luck to you, but if you feel things aren't looking good, ask the judge to take the ticket under a probationary period. I did it moons ago when I got a ticket. Had to pay the fine but no points and nothing on my record as long as I didn't get another ticket for a year. Worked out for me when all was said and done...
thanks guys!

this is my first EVER ticket on a motorcycle. had two warnings, but that's it

I'll try that bigern, sounds like this date might be a PRE court planning date, in which case I'll just pay and move on since missing more work would only cost me money

If it's the PRE court planning... you can request the deferred probation on the ticket in that setting and be done with it. Fines paid, deferment, and done.

Make sure you ask questions and get them answered.

I wish I could say that. I think I must have a sign on my back that says "pull me over" whenever I ride.

My advice is to just be respectfuland look respectable, don't make any excuses, show remorse and hopefully the judge will reduce or drop it. That approach has worked for me several times.

I know exactly how you feel. I would get a lawyer. That's what I did for a ticket I got last December....worked out pretty good....no points, no traffic school. Good luck with the ticket!

gotta $151 for 77 in a 55 near construction zone.  I wasn't even "speeding".   pulling ahead [with the wave on permission] to pass another biker as we entered a narrowing one lane into construction.  just wanted to give room for clean/safe passage for us both.

I doubt I can talk them down, but rather try than not.  wish me luck

let's see if a "Judge" is really capable of 'Judging' anything
If you loose pick up an appeal form. Go back then strike a deal with the procecutor.

Update: judge seemed to be filing the people through pretty quick, but he seemed decent natured. I explained how I was merely passing a fellow rider to add safety into the one lane zone, and he siad he was unable to knock it down to a less than ten, being 22 over, but he said I contact this attourney [he gave me the number], and come back to his court in two months... that all sounded, kinda very positive to me. I might look into traffic attourneys too since it was Radar - as far as I know - does "Visual" count? We weren't FLYING by, but I guess the passing was above the limit

Well, it's better than the angry judge out to get all riders...

So, you going to contact that attorney? Sounds like it might work in your favor if you do...

Good Luck . If I were you I'd just pay a lawyer . They work wonders in court. Put the court date off and get some representation. I have a question: How did you know the stereo you saw in bestbuy was yours ? Did you get it back ? If not , Why Not ? That seems a terrible miscarriage of justice.
My stereo: was put in by that Best Buy [it was a used unit for me], was stolen within a month [they had my address and I parked outside at that time - now I spend more on a garage than rebuying 6 stereos a year!] and the unit had the exact same finger button wear pattern from the way I reached from the drivers seat.

PLUS: I knew a guy who worked there that knew people that pulled that kind of job. I thought about suing Best Buy, but time in life is short and you gotta pick battles important to YOU. This was not so much in the grand scheme.

I called the police from the store, and he showed up with a tude and it was downhill from there. I did not have the SER NUM being a used unit - I told him they took prints from the theft scene and suggested they could check the unit. The police siad that was wasting tax payers money -.... ok.... why take prints in the first place ? ? If they did prints and found the same ones... like duh .... if not, then egg on me

i was an installer at best buy for about 4 yrs....... and yes people personal addresses and phone numbers were at our disposal at all times..... none of the guys i worked with were corrupt but it would be very very easy to rip out units givin the info that we had....... in fact, we would sit and talk about how easy it would be. even if we were installing an alarm....... they can always be bypassed or a "secret" wire could be ran to the outside of the vehicle to ground out the unit... but like i said. it was jsut small talk. however, with ur unit being returned to a best buy, the customer service chick obviously didnt do her job because bby doesnt allow people to return open box units without the receipts..... fwiw

you betcha! I'm calling his friend or whoever he suggested. I'll look into others too, but if I can get it reduced oir removed it would be nice. I'll take what I deserve but this was like getting stung for nothing. for PASSING.

thanks for the input everyone! it's very encouraging. this place rocks because of all of you reading this, and those who replied also

Glad to hear that things might work out. Sounds like "JUDGE JUDY" wasn't in court this time!!!!

I doubt anyone 'returned' the radio, but just called it an open box and put it in the pile of used/open stuff for sale. it's funny, because it was OBVIOUSLY old, dirty and been used a lot.... I was walking by and saw it, and thought "Man, how can they sell something so old and dirty looking? man, that even looks like my model..... HOLY CRAPPERS IT'S MINE!" and I calmly walked out the front door to call the police. I can't beleive they didn't check for prints. the unit was shrink wrapped and would have kept any perfectly

Don't go to get it talked down, insurance companies don't care how low the ticket is if its a speeding ticket it a speeding ticket. Go to win, always make sure you request to have the cop there most of the time they don't show up so all you need to do is ask a question why needs an answer if they can not answer it then you win ticket gone. Ask to see all the evidence against you, what the cop said for sure before you ask any questions at all.

Best is hire a good lawyer.

Outcome: Talked to Prosecution and he was fine lowering to a 10 over which is the "Right to Speed" law in Iowa and only counts for 1/3 of a violation - in other words, if you get 3 it will be a REAL violation.

Court made me pay full 151 amount, but I got the actual "sentance" or ticket lowered to 10 over. All with very little time wasted, and no stress which was more important to me anyway. Doing the lawyer thing would have been costly in time, money, mental anguish, sleepless nights and all that crap.

Now it's done, paid, and now I will NEVER GET CAUGHT SPEEDING AGAIN ;)
