GoPro HD Resource Thread-Discussion-Settings-Mounts-Cards-Results

I got two Gopro HD's and been reading all of you guys info.
The wife's laptop has W7 and the PC is XP

Got a few questions:
What is the most direct/ least amount of loss of quality, upload/ editing software?
Should I try WMM on the wife's laptop?
Is there loss of quality with using A. Elements or QT Pro to convert MP4's

1. WMM is a totally different product between XP and W7. A .mp4 is not native to WMMXP but is WMMW7 (but WMMW7 is an online product).

Adobe Elements seems to work the best, but you need a strong machine and the PRESETS are the key to getting good output (go read that board I linked above).

Just some GoPro pics from last weekend.

has anyone tried mounting the camera with the large 4" suction cup on the hump? i'm looking for a video showing body positioning during left and right turns. the center rear mount position seems like the best angle to acomplish this. the video will be for riding instruction and therefore the scenery is more of an afterthought to the rider hanging off the bike.

I'm about ready to order the suction cup mount for my new Hero because I'm afraid that if I mount the 3M base to my tank, I'll never be able to remove it without scratching of damaging the clearcoat/paint!? Has anyone had occasion to remove the 3M base?

The 3M VHB tape base is almost impossible to remove once it cures. It's pretty much 'superglue' tape. It CAN be CAREFULLY removed, but pay attention:

1. You must saw thru the majority of the tape. A a piece of fine piano/guitar wire (being very careful to hold OFF the tank while sawing) can cut thru the top part of the tape (as it's thick) and cut the mount off without damaging the tank (again, do NOT LET THE WIRE TOUCH THE TANK while performing this proceedure).

2. Once you've removed most of the tape, 3M Adhesive Remover will soften up the remaining adhesive enough that you can get it off without damaging the paint.

Frankly, I would consider any of the GoPro mounts a permanent install, which is why I'd think very hard before I put one on and would not put one on my tank.

THANK YOU skydivr! Invaluable explanation! I will take heed and for now NOT mount anything on the tank. In the meantime, I've been experimenting with a spare helmet I mounted the GoPro to, using one of the 3M base stickers. So far, so good; with the water proof rubber seal removed from the case and sound set to LO, I'm getting a pretty good video for a $99.95 camera from Costco.
Thanks again bro!!

You are welcome. The regular GoPro Hero is a great camera, but the HD model really rocks! The video is much better (albeit harder to edit) and the battery lasts much longer. But for that price, you should get some cool riding video!

The 3m mount I stuck on right front of fairing by my mirror has been on so long I am afraid to try to remove it . As you say it's probably well stuck there . It's a good solid mounting spot for great vids.
I'm still in search of decent sound though :banghead:

Weirdly though I have found that when the camera faces to the rear the sound is much better. I shot a video other day of me and Adam on pops scooter with camera stuck on fairing in front facing us . Really nice video and the sound came out perfect , nothing other than Hyosung 250cc sweet music
I'm gonna load in on YouTube and post it here later tonight .
Best video I have gotten yet and it was on a scooter !

Looking forward to seeing it. Yeah, sound leaves a lot to be desired from my el cheapo GoPro Hero. For normal, everyday busa videos, did you remove the water proof rubber seal? And do you set the sound to HI or LO?
We have what we call the "truck route" leading up to Virginia City, which happens to be only 7 miles from my door. Pure sports bike heaven, lots of twisities and very little traffic, if any, during the week. I plan on testing my helmet mount there tomorrow and will post up if it turns out.

The HD model to my knowledge has no sound adj on it .
Just one setting . On this particular video I'm talking about I used the closed waterproof door I had left over from last one that I drilled 3 small holes in with nothing else inside it .
A couple pages back in this thread you can see the modified door .
Again strange as it is camera is facing back looking at us with holes going into wind and there is no wind or anything just clean clear sound of Adam saying 'go faster' along with engine sound . I wish all of my vids were as good as this one. It is still loading on YouTube and will be for another three hours. I did not compress or convert it cuz I want it to be viewable in HD thru YouTube. I will post in in the morning tomorrow my time . Your time will be around 3-4am cuz I'm 7hrs ahead of eastern time right now .

Hump is too rounded for good suction cup mount.

I put it on the hump once, and although it stuck just fine and didn't come off, the hump isn't solid enough. I had it mounted to the side of the hump. With the arm extended it just put too much weight on the side of the hump, so the camera did a lot of up and down movement making the video VERY unclear. You'd need a ram mount or something like that for what you're wanting to do.

here is video of Adam and I on pops Hyosung 250 scooter.

Suction cup mounted on fairing/body
setting -R2
with same card I always use.
Using my modified door with 3 holes drilled in back.
camera facing backward.

This is one if the best videos for sound I have captured since owning the GoPro.

Use a heat gun on the mounts that have been stuck on there for a while. It heats up the glue and they come right off. Don't go crazy and melt your bodywork, but I have moved them around like this with no problems.

Might, but might also peel the paint right up with it...slow and easy the key...

Ok no matter what, no matter the make, no matter the length never use a hollow pole to mount your camera on.

I used a hollow broom handle and a 3m mount .
Stuck camera on end of it to film this Camel ride.
The hollow pole transmitted and amplified everything .
View is kinda cool for some that have never been on a Camel but you will have to turn the sound down due to all the 'clicking' and other sounds.
Its one of Adams fav things to do when we visit here.
There is a zoo/Camel park about 20 mins from here and they take you on a short ride just so you can say 'Hey I rode a Camel' :)

Finally perfect sound..
Had to take it in the pool without it being close to motor though...

I promise I didnt give him a push...

My homemade chest harness made from 2 of Adams belts..

2 cool pics capturing cool water streams.
The one of the Adam squirting me with water coming at me is kinda neat..
