GoPro HD Resource Thread-Discussion-Settings-Mounts-Cards-Results

So Sunday on my ride i got the SoS error 6 times....grrrrrrr

Didnt catch any of the cool parts of the ride. i know that 32GB is good to go been using it for a couple months...

It is playback on XP computer making it skip .
Plays fine on all TVs in house but skips on my pc ?
Strange ?

Not enough processing power? Graphics card too slow?

I use a program called SplashPro for playback, which works very well.

Anyway, I have experimented with having the cam mounted on top of my helmet. It looks goofy but gives really good footage, plus your neck works as a shock absorber, so no vibrations. The downside is that the wind noise is ridiculous.

I have also used the suction cup mount, on my fuel tank. That also works great although, due to the colour of my screen, everything looks blue! On the positive side, the wind noise is greatly reduced.

I am thinking about trying a mount on the front of my screen. I know the sound will suffer but the footage should look great.

I think its just XP ?
My PC is pretty strong and up to date.
Skydivr had same problem on his as well.

vid clip of me at Deals Gap

Here's a video of myself at Deals Gap (well, on the Hellbender anyways).

I think it turned out alright.

I used (obviously) a GoProHD in the non-waterproof case, on R3 (R5 just won't play on my ancient XP system)

Mounted to the front right mirror base (as per pashnit -- thank you) with a RAM ball mount and 17" aluminum rod.

video was edited on a friends Mac using iMovie which is amazingly user friendly and powerful but does not preserve the original 60fps frame rate (the original raw video was almost 2 gig's and incredibly crisp).

it was then reduced in resolution using Handbrake to less than HD (355p -- unfortuantely) so that it would play on youtube (i tried 720p, but it was just to big to be watchable on anything but high-end hi-speed internet connections)

Banditking, i think your video turned out GREAT. Resolution is good and clear compared to what I've been able to get so far. For editing .mp4 (HD), the Mac does so much a better job than a XP-based PC (not sure about WIN7) as it's native to the mac.

Yes banditking that is a great video and I love the music as well.
Although it was hard to sit still while listening cuz it makes me wanna ride !

One thing though , the song keeps saying your invisible but I can see you

"under the radar, run! under the radar, run! I'm invisible, i'm invisible..."

I think i just FINALLY figured out the proper setting for Premier Elements and GoPro HD Video. This has been driving me NUTS trying to figure it out :cheerleader:

The GoPro HD video recording was set to #3 - 720P 30fps. The original .mp4 file was about 20 minutes long, which I cut in Premier Elements to about 5 minutes. This is Premier Elements 8 on a VISTA machine (gonna have to try with XP next week).

The key is in the PRESETS and OUTPUT Settings. Here is a pic of the PRESETS (**ONCE you select presets, you are stuck with them unless you start from scratch**). Under "Hard Disk/Flash Memory" select "HD1080I 30fps" and "OK" as the photo below depicts.

Premier%20Presets.jpg

Now import your video and edit as desired. After editing your project, here are the correct settings for YouTube output. The download file was 63Mb for 6 minutes (WELL under the 2GB/15 minute new YouTube limit).

Under "SHARE", select "ONLINE", YOUTUBE, and correct the Preset to "HIGH DEFINITION VIDEO FOR YOUTUBE - 1920X1080) and let Premier Render and Upload to youtube as depicted in the image below.

PremierYoutubeoutput.jpg

Here is the completed video (go to youtube and watch it in 1080i mode full screen) - clear as a bell and not a huge file to upload. This happens to be a takeoff/landing by my wife, with my GoPro mounted using a RAM ball mount bolted the wing.

Now that I'm pretty sure I've got this figured out, I've got a BUNCH of video to edit!

One more thing, to remove any black 'box' around the video, select "CLIP, VIDEO OPTIONS, and check "SCALE TO FRAME SIZE", then click OK

here's another clip from my vacation. this one is on 129 itself.
same settings as the previous video. resolution reduced to 480p for youtube.
too bad the 720p is too big to be watchable (well, at least at the connection speeds my service offers).

i've edited out the slower bits when i was stuck behind other vehicles.

Keith that plane video is excellent and freaky.
I know it's an optical illusion but it looks like the prop is hardly turning .

So, is the only way I am going to get this vid on here to upload to Youtube?

The film turned out a lot better than I ever would have expected. Really, I swear it did!

This really bites.

I shot a ride tonight. Not very good at catching night footage. I don't understand why but the sound was awful from tonight's ride, too. Sounded like it was in a can. Hope that was just a fluke. The first filling of the memeory card gave me goood sound, IMO. I can't afford to buy a new card to get good sound every 2 hours of footage I shoot.

I'm totally obsessed with this thing but I have got to get some shut-eye. Any suggestions or comments would be much appreciated.

Last night I burned a DVD with the flying file posted above. The quality was about a 8 out of 10 and I am satisfied that the settings i'm using above are GOOD. The 37 minutes of flying time, with music, was about 2GB so it only used 50% of the DVD. Now I'd like to shoot in 1080P mode (highest quality) and see how that effects DVD quality....
