Guess What I Did Today?

I don't think the system is that intelligent to know the difference between tire slippage from sand or ice and the snowflake will show up when the temperature display shows a cold reading....

We get lots of black ice here in snow country....I know all about it...
I'm guessing there's something in addition to the thermometer because new bikes and cars have an outside temperature display. And if you're the manufacturer springing for all of these complicated electronics that you are selling to make the bike safer, I'd put money that the snowflake pops up for more reasons than the temperature dropping from 38 to 37° let's say...

Maybe.....I wouldn't bet my expensive OEM fairings on that snowflake equating black ice though...

The truck and SUV of ours have an outside temp display as well and it's activated by a little module located near the driver's side fender under the hood.

It would be interesting to see where the module is on the gen 3 unless it's built into the display.

So this will pick up ambient air temperature same as one does in a car/truck....

All the snowflake would indicate is a colder air temperature then.

Which could indicate ice or frost if the temperature is right....

Makes zero sense to have this on a bike, all one has to do is feel the air flowing around them to know if it's cold out or not.....in the years I've been riding I sure didn't need a snowflake to tell me it's cold out-probably too cold to ride a motorcycle.

It makes sense in a vehicle where you have a heater running and might travel for hours where there could be a temperature variation....

You're not getting it. You're riding through the mountains at night with good grip at a good pace. It's cold but you're still making good time. Suddenly the snowflake pops up. It is NOT saying there is black ice! It is saying that it is now cold enough (and possibly the tires have slid a little enough) that there is the POTENTIAL for black ice. When going over a bridge let's say, or hitting a bank of fog, or traveling alongside a creek, or having the wind change, etc, etc. Now I'm double alert to any of those things and are three times gentler on my tires than I was a second ago. And three times more balanced, and as ready as I can be for an unexpected slide. This is good Tech and I am grateful for it.

Trust me I'm getting it.....

I didn't just start riding a motorcycle yesterday...

Just be safe out there, snowflake or not.

Geez I never paid that much attention to all the poop on the dash lol.

And now back to regularly our scheduled programming. Just a peek into the updates.

Looks great especially the exhaust. What windscreen is that?

I'm hoping to bring home my 2023 Hayabusa Monday, driving from PA to NC tomorrow to pick it up.
