***Hoons***

Why has this term become popular on the board ???

It is not a term of endearment...I find it offensive...

eh, I hate the term "crotch rocket" when used for a sportbike, but people say that all the time.

I'm kinda at a loss on the connection between the "N" word which I agree is completely offensive and "hoon". Maybe is just me, but the meaning doesn't seem be that terrible at all.

I know "hoon" could be an accurate term for me time and again, even knowing that I'm not all that bothered. I would much rather be called a "hoon" then whatever other endearing term someone could think up at the time.

You unleashed the thought police. Why exactly is someone offended by something as silly as the word "hoon". Seriously I have seen some offensive $hit and the last thing anyone should be concerned about is the word "hoon". If you enough time on your hands to be worried about someone using the term "hoon", you are probably not riding enough. Or better yet get out and do something nice for someone you don't know.

Funny how we can be comfortable with derogatory terms when others are not.

Not riding enough ???

actually no, it was served to me by a pillar of the community.

I promise I'm not trying to be offensive. My job exposes me to many words and phrases that are different and I was exposed to the word Hoon by my Australian friend near the Gold Coast. It's used in fun...

The term Hoon in Australia is an IDIOT how has no respect for road rules does what he likes when he likes he is just a tool. We have a word that is like your "N" word that is "coon" it is used as a derogatory remark directed to our aboriginals much the same as your "N" word. We use the word HOON in a light hearted manner as well such as "I was just hooning around" (having some fun) or "you bloody hoon" ( to someone who did something stupid)

Hoon is a derogatory term used in Australia and New Zealand to refer to a younger person who engages in loutish, anti-social behaviour.

In particular, it is used to refer to one who drives in a manner which is anti-social by the standards of contemporary society, that is, fast, noisily or dangerously.

Hoon activities can include speeding, burnouts, doughnuts or screeching tires.....

Well that about covers it..."OKAY PEOPLE let's move along"....... :oldcool:
