Hopefully a different spin on the gsxr 1000 vs Hayabusa question

Oh, and pic the busa. It handles MUCH better than a lot of people think it does, (especially if you have some serious riding skills), it's more comfortable, has more power, more aftermarket options, awesome style, and I would imagine a better riding crowd. Less squids out to try to impress people and more responsible riders who always follow traffic laws. But on a serious note, you can't get a better group of guys than the ones here on the org. I can't imagine that gixxer.com can hold a candle to the quality of people on this site. (I've never been on there, so someone please correct me if I'm wrong)

Ah, the old "The Busa can't turn" fear, eh?
I have side-carriers with hard luggage and I can still do U-turns with no problem. I'd stick the knee out too, but I can't shread any more pants :p (joke)

In the wise words of Tony Stark: "Wooohoooo... Handles like a dream..."

That's a lot of money when you're talking about used bikes. You can find a much newer busa than an 03 for 8000. I got my 06 in Sep. of 07 and paid 9 for it. I'm sure you could probably find an 06 now for 8. Maybe even an 07 since we're in the second year of the genII (and they have much better colors this year:laugh:).

Yeah, He needs to look around. I got my 06 towards the end of 08 for 7800 amd only had 2000 miles on her.

Hi, GregBob here on Tuf's computer.

As one of those "I have both" people, there is one major problem with any sportbike: I think they are really boring to ride on the street unless you are travelling at felony speeds. As my speeding tickets began to pile up, I turned to the track for speed. The gsxr requires way less physical effort and gets around a lot faster, but the busa is still really fun.

For fun on the street, it's GOLDWING all the way. I can U turn my wing in the WIDTH of two parking stalls (ie 14'ish feet) at about 1 mph. It handles great, huge comfort, tubine smooth engine with good power, storage space for groceries or trips, wind protection for comfy riding on cold days, and it is still a challenge on the street at reasonable speeds. And parking lot drills (dragging engine guards) are a blast and will attract people who share the obsession.

Also perfect for two up; my ex used to actually fall asleep. It also has an intercom, stereo, and, and, and. Cupholder is optional.

Plus, Wing people are the nicest in the world.

way back in 85 i bought an aspencade and did the same thing. god i loved that bike. it handled great.

As an owner of an 06 Gixx1K and a previous 05 Busa owner, I'd say the Busa. I absolutely LOVE my 1K, BUT...it is only fun if you ride the absolute Sh*T out of it at the racetrack. It responds best at rpms above 8000. It rides absolutely horribly in normal city commutes, runs quite hot, and has no torque like the Busa. But I don't do much street riding anyways, so I'm happy with my 1K!

No brainer. Daily-driver...GSXR1000. Daily-devotion...Hayabusa.... :super:

My son has an 07 1000 and i have an 08 busa. The busa rides a lot better but the 1000 is lighter and is easier to handle. I like them both but if I had to choose it would be the busa. Greg Bob, Hows the wheelieing comin, Haven,t heard any updates.

Tuf and I went out a couple days ago and he laughed at my feeble attempts to get the gsxr up on one wheel. I had totally forgotten how to do it, and him telling me I looked like a monkey f'ing a dog didn't help.

Out of sheer spite and hate, I managed to get a few good ones in after which I self rightously flipped him the bird.:moon:

He was just jealous because I had spent 2 days at infinion and 2 at thunderhill in perfect weather while he was stuck in dreary Olympia Washington.

After just 2 track days, the gsxr was 12 seconds per lap faster than my best time on the busa, and with much less effort; but the busa is still a kick arse fun track bike and much more comfy on the street.

Here's some pics of yours truly aboard the busa and gsxr from that trip 2 weeks ago with some stuff Tuf taught me:

I have a busa and a liter bike (ZX-10) :tongue4:

You will get use to the literbike ergonomics or you will get use to the busa size and weight. So my easy answer for you is to get the bike that offers the better deal $$ for you at the time you are ready to purchase one.

My busa is my everyday bike, plenty of trunkspace, better fuel economy, more stable ride. My liter is twitchy, ultra light, very quick, and it is my huligan bike I ride when I want to scare myself, excite me, and ride wheelies with.

I have rode my busa 8 hrs straight but can only comfortably ride the ZX for 1.5 hrs straight. I also know a couple of guys that have done 800 miles in a day on a GSXR so liter bikes can be ridden all day long (just not be me). But your daily commute does not have to deal with "the more comfortable bike" due to low commuter distance.

Show pics of your choice when you pull the trigger.

They both handle well , they are all fast, they all have good reliability ect.....I have a friend that is without an automobile at the moment and he rides his 07 GSXR1000 everywhere. Not a day goes by does he say I wish i had a busa instead....after having to ride it truly everyday and everywhere his opinion holds some water. He said he only wants a liter bike for the track now. Since you've ridden a 750 for awhile just imagine it having a little bit more weight and about 35 more hp and thats what your liter will be like

GregBob, you are a gas! :cheerleader:

I'm still giggling over that little discription of our wheelie ride. Although your little wheelie expedition was pretty funny as well. I have a new name for those failed wheelies, they are called the "Frog Hop" wheelie! However, I will give you credit, you were doing much better towards the end of our ride.

It's a good thing I didn't see the finger wave or I would have given you these instructions; "Hey GregBob, get her up to about 30 mph, pull the clutch in and give her WOT then dump the clutch, she'll wheelie big guy"!

12 seconds per lap???

I'm over 20 seconds faster since moving on to the 1K! Yes...the Busa makes a good track bike, but it does hinder the learning potential. Unlike the 1K, which was meant for one thing....the RACETRACK.

laptimes @ Autoclub Speedway...

Busa= 1:59's

1K=presently at 1:39's/low 40's and running slightly above midpack A group (the fastest group at trackdays). The fastest guys usually run 31's, except when some of the AMA privateers like Roadracingworld.com's Chris Ulrich or Jeremy Toye are running. They do 27's. Mat Mladin put a qualifying time of 1:23's and runs consistent 24's.

Lookin good GregBob! Me, Lamb, and BA Busa plan on doing Thunderhill in August. I think through Pacifictracktime dot com. you should meet up with us one of these days, as long as you don't have another trackday already lined up.

I'm a GDC member. Lots of quality ppl there, like this site. But tonz of squids and bad apples as well, more so than this site. Lots o "talk" occasionally but overall pretty good folks. I usually frequent the trackdays and racing sections of GDC. They have sections devoted to stunting and posing. But to each, their own.

Sweeeeeet:beerchug:

I, and maybe Tuf, may do a thunderhill trip sometime in the next few weeks if the weather here in tacoma refuses to cooperate :banghead:. Otherwise, it may have to wait until the rains come again in October / November thus fueling motivation to make the 12 hour haul south.

technically the busa is a gsx1300r so its the best of both worlds gsxr=gsx1300r
and what weight the bike was upright last time I rode, balance is balance, now if you drop it you may need a hand, but you wil if you drop the 1000 too

Well, having just come from an '06 10R to an '08 busa, I can tell you that the weight/handling will not be an issue ( I have also riddin' an 06 busa, and thought it handled quite well for it's size also). These bikes shed their weight as soon as you get them rolling, and are no slouches in the tight stuff. To be perfectly honest though, for me the liter bikes are a blast on the street for about the first 30 minutes of a longer ride, and then the seat wigglin' starts. I can ride much longer on the busa before any signs of discomfort appear. From the type of riding that you explained you will be doing in your post, I would have to give a nod to the 'busa as well. Hope this helps. :beerchug:
