How Many 08 Owers Use Mode Selector

So what are the different modes? I gather A is for aggressive driving, B is for moderate driving, and C is for granny?   Does the new Busa have the mpg meter like the older models?  I really liked that on my 02.  I would get 50mpg on the highway all the time with it.  I'm really getting excited about getting the new one. Just a month and a half away! (waiting to pay off an existing loan before getting the new Busa)
Dear christianjax

Here's what the manual says on page 3-17:

<div class="iF-Passage"><div class="QUOTEHEAD">Quote:
<div class="QUOTE clearfix"><span class="quoteBegin"> </span>
A mode provides sharp throttle response at all throttle opening range to obtain maximum engine power.

B mode provides softer throttle response than A mode at all throttle opening range.

C mode provides softer throttle response than B mode at all throttle opening range.
Rider magazine (March 2008, pp. 40-41) says this:

<div class="iF-Passage"><div class="QUOTEHEAD">Quote:
<div class="QUOTE clearfix"><span class="quoteBegin"> </span>
By utilizing a switch on the handlebar, the rider can instantly select A Mode (full power), B (10 percent less power below 8,000 rpm), or C (30 percent less power overall), a system that retards timing and makes appropriate engine tweaks to prevent unwanted wheelspin in chancy traction situations.
I wonder where Rider got its information? Rider's information is quite a bit more specific than the manual's.

By the way, I think the manual was poorly done. It's obviously written by people who speak English as a second language. I also find the manual lacking detail. I believe Suzuki could really one-up the competition by delivering its bikes with an instructional DVD that covers the major points in the manual, such as vehicle orientation and the main maintenance procedures.

I have yet to take mine out of Mode A. Question was brought up at the track though. Could you launch in Mode C and then after 1st gear change the mode selector to Mode A? That way Mode C doesn't apply to much power to lift the front tire?

Isn't that what the throttle is for? If the switch did something useful like shift the powerband that would be different - on bikes that are very peaky with no power below 7 or 8 thjousand revs I can see the point - but the Busa has enough sensible power from just over tickover I can't see why they fitted it.

I've never taken it out of A mode. I know what it'll do in A so I feel like if I put it in another mode, it'll be more sketchy since I don't know what it'll act like. Feel like I have a better idea of how to control it. I think it's just a gimmick. On the dyno, A mode was 172hp, B mode was 155, and C mode was 115.

that wouldn't work... IIRC to change modes while moving you need to hold the button down for a certain amount of time then switch it.

Correct. When I showed the others that you had to press and hold it for a few seconds before it would change, but what I did notice is that once you did that, that you could easily change the mode as long as it was done with in a 15 second window after pressing and holding. So in theory (I'm not going to do this, this is just speculation) do you burnout roll up hit and hold the selector to activate, roll into the 1st stage beam, change to Mode C and then proceed with the rest of your staging, then after launch hit the down button on the selector to roll it around to A. And then watch it stand up on you as the increased power hits.

A mode most of the time

will use the others only if im on a wet road etc etc
Nothing wrong with trying to save the plastic on an new 11.6k bike! Or yer hide. There was a time I thought seatbelts were for bobos. Then I hit a brick pilar in a parking garage and slammed my face into the steering wheel and then went on to break the windshield with my thick head. The passenger's belt held tight. Yeah, I sure showed them....

I have over 5,000 miles on my bike and I've used it for about 15 minutes... it seems like a cool concept, but for me it is a waste... I just use a little thing called self controll and don't twist the throttle much.

Huh, You are kidding right?  Man that sounds like bullcrap...Only[ mode C? Never heard anything like that. Read your owners manual.
Dear valkyriemc

No, I'm not kidding.

The manual doesn't say I have to keep it in Mode C, just that I have to keep the engine below 5500 rpm for the first 500 miles and under 8000 rpm for the second 500 miles.

I don't mind sticking with Mode C for now. I'm actually a little afraid of the 'Busa's power.

Is it possible to wheelie in Mode C while keeping the engine speed under 5500 rpm? I've been trying and have been unable to do it. Maybe I can lift the front wheel when I cross the 500-mile mark and catch rev her on up to 8000 rpm.

Surely that will do damage rather than good? Larger loadings/throttle openings etc....

Hell man get it in A. Check youve still got some balls!
I'M GONNA USE "C" MODE FOR FIRST 500 MILES @ 5500 RPM MAX WITH SHIFT LIGHT TURNED ON.
"B" MODE FOR NEXT 500 MILES @ 8000 RPM MAX WITH SHIFT LIGHT TURNED ON.
IT'S KINDA LIKE FOREPLAY LOL FORCING YOURSELF TO WAIT TO GO ALL THE WAY LOL.
THE BIKE HAS THE SHIFT LIGHT AND MODE SELECTOR FEATURES SO I FOUND A REASON(FOR NOW ANYWAYS)TO USE THEM.
GET SOME TIME ON THE TIRES TOO!

Two up - in a town - straight on to C....

Also - in bad rain - into C

Everywhere else A

Havent bothered with B - to me theres no point?

You have a very valid point about the the manual lacking detail. I downloaded a pdf. version of it and it doesn't look as refined as the manual for previous models. A DVD would have been a nice little perk.
