This subject came up with my son while we were lifting weights the other day.

he had his idea of what was a good number of pushups and what the average person can do and I had my idea.

we did some searching on the internet and we found some stats that I was even amazed at and am somewhat skeptical.

for example, The record for the most non stop push-ups was set in October 1980 by Minoru Yoshida of Japan.

Minoru Yoshida managed to do 10,507 push-ups before finally stopping.

So, any input from anyone out there?

If you can do more than 100 non stop can you please state how many and how long?

That's what I was wondering, tru. Im a great big fatazz and couldnt tell you the last time i TRIED to do a pushup.

I do 100 during my upper body exercise routine, 3 times per week. Sometimes I know I can do more sometimes I know I should do a lot less. Either way I really don't know what my maximum is. I never really tried.

10,000 is insane. Talk about BORING!

After 50 things slow down tremendously for me. I'm not in shape like I should be anymore.

Have never really tried to do until I can't do anymore, but for my fitness tests I do over 100 in about a minute and a half.    At that point I get up and get ready for my situps. Felt pretty good about it until now. Over 10,000 is just amazing!

i do no more than my max in push ups during the APFT. I never really tried to see how many i could do not stop, i probably would never try either since i hate push ups

I got to 3 and my employees thought I had a heart attack and ran in my office to find out why I was on the floor....

I usually stop at 79 in 2 min stop at my max and that is it, have to save my energy for the running.

I have done 100 in 2 min during PFA practices. Or when I am competing against the young guys. Not a fan of pushups.

Always hated them and really hate the push up position. Leaning rest is one of my least favorite things to hear.

You really have to define "pushup" when you're talking about a competition.  I think the standard definition is going to at least 90 degree bend in the arms with a straight line in the body between the ankles and shoulders.  If you don't make it that far or if your arch or sag your body they don't count. rulez8bn.gif

The most I've done is 98 in a row, but that was more than 10 years ago.  I'm actually a lot stronger now, but I don't think I've ever tried to break my record since.  Not sure I would do much better now.  I weigh about 175 and I've done 3 sets of 8-12 with my 120 pound girlfriend sitting on my shoulders (full weight on me), then ripped off a set of 60 after that.  Even so, breaking 100 is a tough feat and I'm not sure I could do it.  Kudos to those of you who can break 100.  It takes a lot of hard work to get that strong and have that kind of endurance. bowdown.gif  woot.gif
