Hydrate tons before going out. If you start to feel very thirsty you are already dehydrated.Avoid alcohol, pop, caffein, and sugar filled workout drinks.

Carry lots of water(Camelbacks are great) or freeze a couple bottled waters and throw 'em in the hump/tankbag.

There's a new vest on the market(I'll find a link for you)that you fill with cold water and wear.Keeps yer upper body cooled.

Wear the best vented helmet and clothing you can get.If its too hot to wear your gear...its too hot to ride.

Ride early morning,or late evening if you can.

Watch out for the cagers. They will be hot and cranky and tired and will be paying even less attention than usual.

Be cautious when riding long straight stretches, the cagers may not see you in the rising heat marages.

Don't be afraid to soak yer head with cool water and even pour some in your helmet. I've been doing this for 25+ years,it doesn't wreck yer lid.

Warm yer tires as usual before the twisties, just because the blacktop is hot, tires still need a chance to warm up.

Feel free to add to the list.....  be safe out there boyz and girlz.

  Unckle Rubb.

Ok Uncle Rubb, I have one for you...

Went for a ride today, figured I would go out early but got caught up watching Sports Center and next thing I knew it was 1030. It is 94 degrees down here today but the Busa was begging to go out so i decided to take her to Pine Mountain.

I properly hydrated, avoided Pop, coffee (that hurt), no alcohol previous night (another pain), and put on all my gear which caused numerous smirks from the squids in their t-shirts as they passed and waved.

As I stretched my babies legs periodically, being crouched down on my girl it would get extremely hot from the sun beaming down on me and the heat coming up from my baby.

Had to periodically sit up throughout the ride in order to let air pass through the vents on my jacket in order to cool down. Even drinking from my camel back in the crouched position didn't provide much relief until I sat up and let the air hit me.

Lesson to be learned: riding position in extreme heat can cause overheating when riding in crouched position. I know most know this but the newer riders most likely haven't experienced and I certainly forgot about it until being reminded today, however, it was a great ride though...

I wear under armour heat gear with my Joe Rocket diggs to help cool me down.

Thanks for the tips rubba!

I dont recommend watering your helmet because this can destroy the foam inner lining that crumples upon impact. If this lining is disintgrated (water will do this) then you will not be protected if you crash. You also cut down on the life of the helmet. Use a vented helmet - your sweat will do the cooling for you.

Get a helmet liner that wicks away the moisture from your head and out. The air flowing through the helmet will carry this moisture out. Your head will stay cool.

Use a non-vaporizing sun-screen on your face. If you use one that vaporizes - it can release unpleasant fumes that will affect your eyes and cause them to water. Not using sunscreen can seriously affect your skin...even through the helmet.

Wear full-sleeve sports "Dry-Fit" T-Shirts under your jackets. Use a MESH jacket from lightweight synthetic material. Leave your leathers at home for this season. Mesh trousers and even gloves and boots.

BMW has some amazing inner-wear for the summer. Check out the reviews online and get what you need from them.

Drink...Drink...Drink. Isotonic fluids are the best. Search around for a good Isotonic drink that is not packed with sugars and salts...you want water to enter the body...not go out...

Heat causes muscular cramps and fatigue...rest often.

Try not to ride during the day if possible...or wait for a cloudy day. Early mornings and evenings are the best. I had a stunning ride between 4:00 and 7:00am today. Went all the way to Charlotte NC and back.

I always tell the wife if your to hot take off your shirt (hasnt worked yet)

Ive often wet down my inner clothing like my t-shirt before a ride and it keeps me pretty cool for quite a while. Bring a bottle with and you could re-wet on stops. It would be great if someone developed a vest like the one Uncle Rubb mentioned, except make it capable of circulating water or some cooled liquid coming from a heat exchanger of some kind. Its kind of far fetched but if made I know alot of people who would pay good money for a product like this. Some of the high end luxury cars have heat pumps that cool the seats why not motorcycle vest or jackets or even pants. The military has vest like this that humvee drivers and helicopter pilots wear.

Sunscreen for your face and wrists even if you are wearing gear, I do and still have nice tanned stripes around my wrist where there is a gap between my jacket and gloves....

looks interesting. after the 6hr ride this weekend (temp in the mid 90s) I will most likely give this a try.

especially if i can find something that can cool my helmet a few degrees. my Fieldsheer High Temp jacket is doing a pretty good job of cooling my torso (when I sit up it is especially nice), but my helmet is cooking.

although, I had rather be sweaty than bloody any day...

If you are taking digoxin, a beta blocker, or a calcium channel blocker, watch out for heat. The drugs will keep your heart from speeding up like it should in reaction to heat. That can cause you to pass out unexpectedly.

one other thing... Strap the back pack to the bike, not your back... That will cool you as much as the rest of it.

Hump off, seat on... Backpack down.

There is a great Hydro-vest that Moto-Liberty sells. Soak then let hang to drain. Perforated leathers will allow wind to pass over it. Works like a swamp cooler. I have ridden in my 1-piece suit in 100 degrees - no problem unless you stop. It usually lasts about 3 hours. Does not work w/ mesh 30 minutes - too much wind.
