In GA I wear my Teknic Mercury jacket all year round in GA where it gets very hot as well. I too have been down before and can stick it out through the heat when I need to. I do strip off my collared shirt though and wear just a T-shirt under the jacket while riding.

I have this jacket, hope you enjoy it.

I got a First Gear off the internet at first because of course it was a really good price. When I got it it didn't fit well, had single stitch seams, threads already coming out all over. I sent it back quick. Went and visited a few stores and saw the Tourmaster but it was a bit short. Guy at dealer said they make it in tall sizes which not many at all do and he was sure it would work. Two inches more in the sleeve and a couple more on the back and yes it fits me perfect.
Large Tall is what you need if you around 6-6'4 200 or so. Thing is tough, very well made and as I said since I get pelted with bugs every ride I throw it in the washing machine and it comes out clean and like new every time. No loose threads , nada. Best $160 I ever spent bikewise.

At the very least boots/jeans/gloves/helmet. But I prefer wearing my leather jacket. I have a white mesh jacket and perforated leather jacket also. Some days its just too hot for me to wear them. On those days I slow down and stay on high alert. One thing I always wear no matter what is my gloves. I have no problem picking the asphalt out of my own wounds (been there done that) but I don't know anyone that I'm close enough friends with to ask to wipe my butt. Gloves always.

I also have the Tour Master Intake jacket in 3XL. It fits my fat torso perfectly. It is very cool as long as your moving. Today when I stopped for bumper to bumper freeway traffic, I roasted. BUT, I still ride with all my gear. Draggin Jeans and Intake Jacket, helmet and gloves. No one else had any gear on today but me from what I could see.....just makes me ride quicker! My butt and crotch were soaked in those heavy weight draggin jeans with Kevlar lining! But nothing is more fun than twisting the throttle on that bike. It is freaking awesome!

yes, sometimes but i will limit my ride to about an hour and call it quits. as mentioned, a hydration pack is a score to keep you going and i wet my t-shirt collar so my jacket neck area will provide good air flow.

I know what you mean. It was over 105 in the shop at work this week. So to put the gear back on and ride home is very difficult. However being in a crash myself and all that has happened that last few weeks on the org. Will not take the chance.

On the hot ones I rock my Alpinestars Air-Flo jacket and a long sleeve under armor ( keep something around to throw on when you stop or the boys will think your a real wanker with the skin tight armor)

But it never gets over 30 degrees C here so I have no worries!

Even in 110F Summer desert heat I wear a perforated leather jacket. You will end up with at least 2nd degree burns just laying down on the hot asphalt waiting for the ambulance. Next time it is a hot day where you live, take your shirt off and go lay down on the black asphalt to convince yourself how much you would value a leather jacket.

I have tried the nylon mesh jackets but they fit loose and feel funky.

motoport kevlar overpants. Got to love them but they will costly. I perfer them to my leathers. I have owned most every type of riding gear over the years and in my humble opinion these are the best by a whole lot. Something about the kevlar doesn't absorb radiant heat from the sun. Plus they stretch as you move. Armor is significant and according to their claim the only synthetic track certified. They are one off custom made for you measurements.

Good point! I've lived in Vegas and now this to be true.

I know the risk, but over 100 out here, t-shirt gloves and jeans. And yes I have gotten road rash, but it healed up. I think it was 2 years ago 12-15 days in a row over 110.

But now I have a car again so we will see if I feel the same way.

Evaporative cooling is the thing w/hotweather riding. Motoport in California makes the kevlar mesh jackets and pants. Kevlar is over 20x more resistant to tearing than leather. He has soft armour installed everywhere in the jacket. He states that the hard plastic with foam actually transmits kinetic energy to the rider on hard falls. I wear leather on short rides, all cool weather, and when it really heats up over 90 I am in the Kevlar mesh with a cooling vest. I also wear a soaked "do" on my head. Even at 100 degrees plus I stay very comfortable for about 45-60. Then I just pull over and wet down with water from the bottle and I am good for another round. One more thing...they make these tube-e type things that are filled with a gelatinous material that you put in the refridge...you put that around your neck before donning the coat and it also has a remarkable effect of keeping you cool. I've never tried one but my buddy rides his Hardley and swears by it. Like the guys stated...dress for the slide...u never want to be accused of leaving a snail trail of your epidermis on the pavement...yuck...
