I would be very careful buying anything at the shop where you took the photos.  Nothing but Sterling silver and CZ's as far as the eye can see.  I suppose I could be wrong, but fine jewelery isn't displayed like that stuff in the background, just tossed into a scratched up glass case in a card board box unless it's CZs and pot metal at the swap meet.  Don't walk, RUN the other way bro, you don't want anything from that place and I'd be HIGHLY suspect of ANYTHING you've purchased there being the real article.  Yeah, I get all that out of the pics man, they don't add up, the scratched counters, the crap displays, items laying on top of one another...   Yeah...

I agree looks like a pawn shop
fight.gif
No worries for me have been dealing with my jeweler for over 15yrs, wouldn't go no where else. Have had all my stuff appraised by other jewelers and it's all good. Plus anytime I get tired of my stuff I can take back to him and he gives me what I paid for it towards something new.
beerchug.gif

Trust me I would never just walk into some place and just deal with anyone.
cool.gif
OK Good...  Kinda freaking scary,  Still not sure if Boaz knows that his Breitlings aren't legit, so just from the snapshots I was thinking OH NO...[/quote]
I hear you, if I wasn't intruduced to him by a friend who has the money I would have never dealt with him years ago.

It's kind of tricky, if he knew they were fakes and thought we were just too simple to notice then it's an uncomfortable and embarrassing place to be. If he didn't know they were fakes then he's busy tracking some folks down, and breaking knee caps and will be along shortly. Either way I was hoping to NOT just jump righ tout there with the "THEY ARE FAKE" thing in hopes of saving him some potential bad feelings.
dunno.gif

So I am not PMing anyone... Nope, not going to do it. I just hope that he knew they were fakes and was just tossing em' out there for fun.

There is no easy way to tell someone that their watch (or whatever) is a fake. If you go easy they don't believe you or think you're putting them on.

Usually your better off just telling him where the items don't jive with reality and then let him verify through his sources.

Of course you also have the question which bit of embarrassement is worse, being told your watch is a fake and thus you are saved future embarrassment of showing it to others as the real thing, or having someone go easy on you and you keep showing it off and making a fool of yuorself.

we all make mistakes, and I like to get mine as far behind me as I can.

My wife's been in the jewelry business for 16 years and helps manage a private, family owned jeweler. The kind where you only know about it if someone told you, where you need an appointment and/or referral from existing customers to get in and then have to be buzzed in through security doors to enter. Out of fear for her safety, I once drove her to deliver a $200,000 necklace to a customer (with gun in reach mind you). Needless to say, I stay the hell away from that wallet emptying business (get sold anytime I show my face there).

Anyway, the point is that over the years my friends have gone to her for their jewelry buying needs because they know she is trustworthy and they will get the best quality for their money. However, time and time again it's unbelievable what they thought they had purchased, or what little they got for their money from other jewelers. She'll sit them down in the diamond room and educate them and they don't come out happy based on what some other jeweler had sold/told them.

I'll never buy jewelry from a walk-in retailer ever again. It's amazing how much cheap azz bling is out there. CZ off the hook!

One of the reasons I did the original post , was to save you guys the awkwardness of relaying bad news to a friend.

We've had the same type of discussion on the Breitling forum. there is no easy answer, but the opinion seems to be get the news out and save the guy future grief.

Another way to look at it, you leave things alone and he might go back to his supplier and gets another one. One thing I can assure you ,this will probably never happen to your buddy again.

every time I read this thread.. my ding a ling feels smaller..... if spring does not get here soon I could have an attack from lack of "Man Machine" off to my happy place..... off to my happy place....

Nah, I am sure he saw Breitling Lovers post, and honestly yeah I am glad Breitling posted it really. Get it out there and just be done with it.

Besides this thread has proven worthwhile in other ways, I've found a Tissot I'll be trying to find, and I learned that Citizen is no longer just a Timex sort of watch maker...

I looked at an eco drive minute repeater the other day and I'm kinda thinking about it. I like watches I can just wear, and not do too much cursing if it gets destroyed.... So good thread, and Boaz probably knows the deal.

But short straw or not, I'm not PMing him with the charming news...

True True.

I guess that one thing to remember is that a fine timepiece (Or even a Pretty Good One) will have no tool, casting, or machine marks and will from just just about ever angle be finished to perfection. Fine watches "FEEL" fine if that makes sense. Not just in terms of weight, but in terms of bracelet movement, clasp, etc... And the finish never rubs off a fine watch, especially the "stainless" finish.
smile.gif

Finally, if you're getting a "DEAL" on a fine watch that is too good to be true? It is...

That's what my Daddy used to say.

If the deal looks to good to be true it usually is.
