I need to quit smoking

I am really just barely hanging in here. I need to find something to do and get my mind off of it.

Quiting smoking is a real mother xxx....  For those of us long term smokers and especially those predisposed with an obsessive, compulsive, addictive personality to begin with seem to have an extremely difficult time putting down the smokes for good.  From ongoing personal experience I can tell you that the physcological addiction to smoking is the most difficult addiction there is to overcome, but it can be done.  I smoked for 37 years but recently decided to give quitting a try, I approached it in that manner because I had previously made firm resoloutions to quit only to have it last just a couple hours, I have not smoked in over 6 months so yes it can be done.  The actual nicotine withdrawl is over in just 72 hours but is emotionally trying and extremely stressful, after that you will be confronted with the physcological addiction, the habit itself, all the trigers that invoke cravings, all this is so ingrained into the brains thought process after years of smoking that it is only normal to expect it to take a great deal of time to change.  Keep in mind that smoking is not just a bad habit, it is a DRUG ADDICTION and will more than likely eventually kill you, for me I just reached the age that I decided that quitting was the intelligent thing to do, especially if I want to stick around for another 20-30 years.  Good luck man, you can do this.

I also found exercise/lifting weights to be extremely helpful in my quit, not to mention it helped with riding the Busa. I actually found the Busa to be helpful as well, when you're out there tearing it up on the Busa you sure as hell ain't thinkin bout smokin a cigerette.

I agree with Doyle, X smokers are the worst when it comes to getting on smokers! Much more vocal in their opinions and abuse

I had quit a couple years ago, last about 15months, then was deployed back to Afghanistan, I was so on edge, and then bored and repeat, I lit up and have been needing to quit again. Last time I did cold turkey, this time I'll go assisted, the strength of my will and the pill, smoking I will kill!

300, stay busy by post whoring

I have been trying to quit this past week. My wife finally had enough and told me to go buy a pack. I guess I am hard to live with for the first 3 days. This sucks, I hate something having that much control over me. Besides, I would feel bad for Semi at the meet and greets when he has no one to smoke with!

But seriously, I would like to be around for a long time, and not saying that quitting smoking will make be live longer, but it will sure help my chances. I have tried the gum, tried the patches, and quit cold turkey. I always come back to it. Now I have limited myself to 2 or 3 a day, but this isnt working either. I hate being a smoker

honestly, in the past (>10years ago) it was pretty easy to quit. I think the tabacco companies now have really upped the nicotein because it's ALOT harder these days.

They did make an increase. It was on the news not too long ago about how they increased it in order to make it harder to quit.

Trying to quit right now also.
Been taking Chantix for 10 days now.
Only smoked 6 yesterday instead of the usual 1 1/2-2 packs. Will finish up a pack tonight and go smokefree tomorrow.
Got mine through insurance, $30; but they rang it up without and it was $92 something.
Still cheaper to get the pills then to smoke as much as I was.
Good luck everyone else trying or thinking of quiting.

I will say that since I have started taking the blue pill; every time I smoke I get a little nauseous and a minor headache.

i`ve never tried one but my wife smoked for 25 years and just quit cold turkey, i guess you gotta want to quit. maybe it had something to do with them costing $5 a pack???
