If there was no Busa

if never came out- R1 (what I had my sights set on till the wife saw the copper / platinum '99 in my bike mag and fell in love, but the dealers didn't have any since they were moving in the '00s, so she put the deposit on my blue & silver '00) if stopped making them all together- an oldwing

Gixxer 1000, hands down. Either that or a CBR1000RR.

--Wag--

I've ridden most of the litre bikes but wouldn't want to own one again.
While I haven't ridden any of the bikes below, most appeal to me in this order.

ZX14
SV1000
Bandit 12
ZX11
CBR1100XX
M109R ??

Probably a tricked out ZX-12

Or a butt ugly ZX-14 (I just threw up a bit in my mouth)

FJR1300 stripped down- no luggage, w/ pipes and maybe a turbo

Or a GXXR 1000 but I would have to give up long distance trips

or if I got real crazy- a new Nija 250 and I'd try and turbo it.

ZX-14 or just say the heck with it and go Concours 14
What's the difference. I remember someone saying a "Conny 14", and I did a search, but all I found were pictures, and I couldn't see a difference ?
The engine is a detuned ZX-14 engine. It's a true sport touring bike that is extremely comfy.Comes with hard bags[removeable]
The Concours-14 isn't a de-tuned version of the ZX-14 motor. It's got variable valve timing, and different gearing. It's slightly different, but far from being "neutered"

The variable valve timing gives the Concours WAY more low-end grunt and better performance at lower RPMs (which is where the ZX suffers). The gearing is sweeeet, and 6th gear is a true overdrive. Come to think of it, the concours is also better looking IMHO, than the ZX.

To answer the original question, I'd probably have stuck to H-Ds, or possibly moved to a Ducati, if there was no 'Busa

No 'Busa...Now there's a terrible thought! You should be forced to ride a 2-stroke moped for a day, just for even having contemplated that!

Before I bought my Busa I had been riding my trusty old GS1150ES for twenty years and would be still

if I had the means to keep em both. But at one time I was very close to buying a 2005 Ducati ST4S. That bike was exactly what a sport tourer ought to be in my opinion. Superbike motor, Ohlins suspension, Brembo brakes, Marchesini wheels etc.

I am almost certain that Ducati will make a modern version of that bike based on the 1098 platform soon! Why Suzuki refuses to get on the Sport touring band wagon is beyond me. Aside from that I would most likely try to create a Sport tourer out of a GSXR1000. I posted up (LINK)the other day on this and all the ST hardware does exist to do so!

So If I was to make a short list of bikes it would probably look something like this.
GSXR1000-Orange and Black 07 if you please.
B-king- All black with a set of Devil Carbon slip ons.
BMW 1200GS Adventure
Ducati 1098S-See link above.
Moto Morini Granpaso

If no 'busa, I'd probably admit I'm middle aged and get a connie. Then again, one of the advantages of being old is I could probably swing a BMW1200s. I love those Ducs. And I've always secretly wanted to build a harley that would run, turn & brake. Heck, if no busa, I'd just be even more broke, and less happy.
