I'm torn between 2 options.

So here is my pickle, I picked up my 05 busa this year for a great price. But I've dropped a fair bit of money on it already to get it up to safe operating conditions. But this winter is do or die. I either start ripping everything apart and start making it into a new/old bike or do I just go out and get a brand new bike and keep this as a weekend warrior bike? The worst part of the busa is the jackass that owned it before fudged every single plastic and dented the tank (I hate riding on something scratched and damaged like that), it also didnt have a single maintenance item done but thank god for such the low km's on it.

Keep it as is! It's way less stressful always worrying about the looks of the bike rather than riding it. It's just like owning a beater vehicle. It is so much more fun just bagging it and not worrying about the little things on it compared to taking out your $100k sports car and worrying about someone dinging it, let alone touching it.

I’ve always loved having more than one bike if at all possible. Sounds like you’ve invested a fair bit into the Busa already I think I would keep it then get something that is different for the second bike based on riding style and preferences. For example if I had hypersport I’d get perhaps a sport touring, naked, adventure, Small displacement, cruiser etc something that is 90-270 degrees different than the current bike or like some have done here and have one of each big bore bikes Busa and ZX14.

@ColdBusa that is a very good point, it looks good from a distance just not up close. I actually bought a used for ranger strictly for hunting and beating up on but my other truck is in mint shape and gets barely used and really just sits in the drive hahaha maybe I'd buy a new bike and it would just sit there. @Tached1300 I was actually leaning towards a s1000rr, I started on 1 litres and kinda missing them a bit but the busa fits my frame soooooo much better for long hauls.

I belive in riding clean well maintained.
Bought new due to the abuse a Hayabusa often sees by most owners. RJ has 40,xxx miles and looks very good but has a scratch or rock mark from 40 I miles.
Use is better than sitting. You get your money out of something you use often.
Dump the old and move up and use it or rebuild the old. And use it . No point in having two money sucker's.
Wither way winter will cost money by rebuilding or mods to a new bike .

@c10 Yah probably should have went brand new but it's been a few years since I've ridden and I absolutely fell in love with it again!
Hi. Do what makes you happy. Make the busa your perfect bike. If it is only paint and body that is not much. I bought a used 1999 busa in 2017 for $2,500.00. I am doing some work on it to make it MY perfect bike. I now have about $50,000.00 into it and only about $45,000.00 to go.

Only $45k to go :DGod, I hope to see that baby launch in its prime...

I paid $6k for mine and I've spent about $2,000 over the last 2 years in maintenance/comfort upgrades (rotors, tires, windshield, seat, radiator, etc), but I don't plan on ever selling her...she'll have to get totaled.
I do plan on getting a cruiser as a 2nd bike so I can go grocery shopping with more than just a backpack.

As for the bodywork: aftermarket plastic or rattlecan & decal it! You can do some pretty nice work with a can of rustoleum and a few stickers.

Thanks for the input guys I know it's kind of a sh!t post.
Nope just a question, its all good. I have personally done the 2 Busa system a couple times, and multiple bikes lots of times. The cool part about 2 bikes is if one breaks down in the middle of riding season and the necessary parts are say 1 or 2 weeks coming in,you still ride. I like yer idea of kick around Busa and showroom Busa. Sound like you like near mint vehicles...get a mint Busa. Now you have options. New Busa is there, always good to go. Old Busa can morph into whatever you want over time. Drag bike? Turbo? Touring? If none of those things really interest you...perhaps go with the other members idea of something totally different.
Rubb.

Hi. It will be an 850+ HP Land Speed Racing bike/street bike.

@JeffSyh
Is this a question of financial commitment ($), or time n energy (TE)?
Let's assume the 'new' bike you have in mind is a '20 Panigale with a price tag north of $20k USD. $ would be $20k, TE, zero. Compare that to the $ + TE of the Busa refit, providing you can quantify TE.

I am the 2nd owner of a '14 Gen 2. It has nicks n dings n scratches, yet I am more ashamed of the rubber brake lines and OEM brake MC cuz I'm lazy n cheap. But I'd still rather have my scratched Busa with squishy brakes than a new Panigale, partly because of the Busa's iconic status, but also partly because I've wrenched enough on it by now that I'm pretty comfortable with most of its mechanics and that gives me a confidence I cannot quantify. What I *can* quantify is the bike outperforming 90% of current vehicles on the road.

What I mean to say is, passion might have something to do with your decision.

@HayaWakened I will have a long cold winter to get into good shape for next year but then I could always get something new and just not worry about it. I do mechanics full time so working on it and tooling is not an issue. Body work is the only thing out of my realm. It was honestly just an impulse buy after losing my lic cause of riding a little to hard I thought I'd try it again and of course I'm hooked! But at the end of the day I paid barely anything ($2300) for the bike so at this point I could break even.

@rubbersidedown I dont expect things to be perfect but I see it as a reflection of my self, I just like things mechanically safe and sound with nice paint hahahaha.

So...pretty much perfect. OK, gotcha. :p
It's a feeling like not much else. You stand back, its freshly waxed and buffed to perfection...its awesome. My Busa is 10 years and it has a scratch. Yup...1 scratch. :banghead:
It doesn't really bother me thou....

much....

I'll be fine.... back to your thread.

Well I thought I'd dig up my old thread. I've obviously decided to keep it so I've went through it this winter and did alot of TLC

I did all the basic maintenance stuff, new spark plugs, air filter, it's second oil change since I had it, new brake pads and engine ice with new thermostat and rad cap, new battery, inspected and greased wheel bearings. I ordered fork seals just incase mine ever start to leak.

For upgrades I did carptener clutch mod.

I went with the APE slave cylinder support though the fitment was garbage and I should of just bought the billet cover.

I have new brake lines on order but who knows how long they will be.

I got a full yosh exhaust from busakiller for a good price! I exhaust wrapped the header.

Did a pair delete.

Replace the middle two velocity stacks to shorties.

Got new sprockets and chains 16 in the front 42 in the back.

Lowered it about a inch all around.

Frame sliders.

I actually hand painted the bike my self for this season I will probably order new plastics this winter.

Brand new tires all around michellen pilot powers 2ct's (hope they are decent).

I think that's all? I'm sure I'm missing some.
