First, no one was hurt.

Second, due to my job, I can't talk about what happened with the plane.  It's under investigation.  You can get info if you want from the news media, reference today at Santa Monica airport.

Third, I am clean.  Did everything by the book, so my job is safe.

Well, they (Air Traffic Controllers) say there are two types of controllers; those who have had an aircraft accident and those who will!  Sound famaliar??!  Granted the pilot has got to have it worse, but man, that'll get your heart pumping!!  First instinct is to get the pilot help if he needs it(fire dept)
wow.gif
then to completely change your plan.   When you work airplanes you constantly plan it out, and this put a rock into works of my plan!!

Then you realize that your voice is a higher pitch and a little on edge, from the excitment of the situation.

And it takes a long time to calm back down...whew!

I guess you could say my cherry is now popped!

Hate it for the pilot, though.

Definitely respect you guys. Every time I switch hubs on the radio thats the first thing I listen for is pitch of the controllers voice. Glad noone was hurt.

I still thank goodness for TCAS. Lifesaver.

If you ever hear a REACH call sign it might be me.

Keep up the good work, Stu

If you ever fly into Santa Monica, ask if Charles is there.

I definately agree, TCAS is great!

WOW! Our station responds to Bellingham International Airport, I think it is BLI. I can imagine your pucker factor is a bit like anybody's that responds to this stuff, tight enough to produce diamonds from coal! Hope it all pans well for you and it feels different when it's hitting the fan versus training scenario's doesn't it?

Yeah, there isn't a training scenario that is anything like the real thing!

It'll be allright for me, its a good thing I did everything by the book. Wouldn't want the feeling that I could have done more, plus lawyers today will eat you up if they get the chance.

Glad it wasn't your fault. Was it private or commercial, accident or incident? I did a search but didn't find anything

We know you probably can't talk about it yet. When it all calms down, we'd like some details from your side. For now, know you are appreciated.
I've had more close calls at uncontrolled airports where there is much "training" than at towered ones.

Keep the blue side up!

Other then the idiot's cutting under you to land at uncontrolled airport's, I've never had any close calls.

Although I never cared much for the student pilots at Luftansa Air in Phoenix who are supposed to be able to speak english, but the majority don't speak it barely nor can they understand it.

It was such a small incident it might be hard to find on the news.  I'll talk to my boss and see what I can say.  I love the job, so I gotta be careful, never know who might be watching!

Santa Monica Tower closes from 9pm to 7am. I've seen a little of that uncontrolled airport ops your refering to.

Never talked to a student pilot from Luftansa Air, but I know about the non-speaking guys your talking about. Not only do they have a wicked accent, but talk soo fast when they transmit. ugghhh

Glad you are Ok C.B---at 15 years old all i did in my spare time was to hang out at Clover Field. Met a man and flew with him several times in a 61 Cessna 175 and once in his buddy's Tri Pacer....great memories.
Miss airplanes but the Busa is faster than both the planes i mentioned.....

True, but the Busa is limited to roads only

Where's Clover field??

Aero Commanders sounded so cool---and the DC-6--and the T28 ---And Lear Jets were new---And I remember a Ford Tri-Motor there too....

That is Santa Monica airport--Clover Field--former name i suppose
That must have been before my time!  Never heard of Clover Field.

I hate to ask, but how old are you??

They moved the runway to make it longer to accomidate large jets like Gulfstreams. Its RY21/3 now, what was it before RY24/6

While I'm at work if there is a lack of things to do I like listen to the radios.  Every now and then you hear some good stuff.  I think the funnies thing I ever heard was one night when a maintenance crew got lost.   THIS WAS NOT DELTA.  We would never do this.

Plane: We would like to taxi back to ramp 5.
Tower: Taxi approved Hold short on the East end of Taxi way Baker.
Plane:  Hold short East end of Baker (when you taxi you have to repeat what the tower told you to do so they know that you know what to do.)
short radio silence
Tower:  Plane (real name not given) Which way are you heading?
Plane: We're going to hold short at East end of Baker
Tower:  WHICH WAY ARE YOU HEADING? (tower not happy at this time)
Plane: To the East end of Baker
Tower:  LOOK AT YOUR COMPASS AND TELL ME WHAT WAY YOU ARE HEADING!!
Plane: UH We're heading West.
Tower: Hold short at your present location and we'll get back to you.

At this point they left the maintenance crew out there for a few minuets before they called them back.  Once they finally called them back the crew blew it again.

They missed their turn off to ramp 5 and had to call the tower back.  That went over big time.  All the tower could say at that time was You guys are really testing me tonight.  The next voice you heard from the tower was a different controller.  I think the first guy went for a smoke break.

I am 53---used to hang out there in 1966-67 How did they lengthen the runway. I remember that the runway was
as long as ground area it is built on. On approch [sic] right over the road..then off the end right over houses.. Hmm.
