It just doesn't stop

Our trespass postings are the same...

....and rural areas are similar...even though we have no castle or stand your ground laws, some people in rural areas keep weapons handy-even ignoring our strict storage laws.....(I know my brother does....).

Speaking of brothers....mine got pulled over because he has a sticker on the back of his truck that reads "keep honking while I reload" with a picture of a gun on it.......the cops didn't like this sticker....

....and my brother is the firearms officer for his region and the president of the local gun club....
Yeah Cops can get a little nervous with citizens and guns.

Actually it's partially why they just passed the open carry without a license statute here. Cops would rather see a gun than get surprised by one.

If this is true it doesn't support his argument that he thought someone was trying to break in. You don't open the door. You do the opposite.
It isn't true. There were 2 doors, a glass storm door outside and a wood door. He shot through the storm door. No doubt police removed it as evidence.

My source is the police press conference.

What I suspect happened is the kid rang the doorbell, got no immediate response so tried to open the storm door to knock. At this moment the man opened the door and saw the kid and shot.

Kid says he never touched the storm door. Fingerprint evidence should clear this up one way or another.

We only know what they are telling us. Wait till the indisputable facts come out.
Rural area, old man alone in his home, stranger knocking on door etc etc.
AFTER the event and initial interview they didn’t arrest him or charge him. Why that is we do not know but apparently as of now it was not crystal clear he acted maliciously.
On the face of it I don’t see enough to justify it. But none of us were there in the dark in that moment or in that old man’s mind.

Never said he acted maliciously, only gave you my interpretation of what probably happened.

I didn’t imply you did? Only from experience with events like this the media once again immediately breaks out the pitch forks and ropes wanting to fan the flames.
If he did act without cause then fry him. If he did act without cause no matter his age than run him thru the ringer and let him be an example of what not to do.

I read the home owner was charged with 2 felonies

He has. Initially he wasn’t. Did they decide to charge him on the merits of the event or to put out the flames of protest over a white man shooting a black boy? That’s really what we don’t know.

They had not gotten a statement from the person he shot yet. He after all had been shot in the head. The fact that he is able to have capacity to give a statement is pretty miraculous. So I want to set aside the political pressure to find charges, and prefer to say we now have 2 accounts by 2 first hand participants. This is why we have due process.

I already hope the 84 year old man can get a fair trial based on the first 24 hours of what will become 24/7/365 CNN opinions pieces on it.

Apparently the boy made a statement....he said the home owner told him "don't come around here."

There's probably enough physical evidence for the investigators to depict what happened....those people are real pros and not much escapes them.

Like I mentioned in the post to Talltom-there's probably enough physical evidence for the investigators to piece together what happened...
Fine then. Run him thru the system a let it play out.
Pretty sure we all know by the time the trial occurs there will be mass protests outside.
He’s already been convicted in the court of public opinion. And it may be deservedly so.

Well "don't come around here" is pretty flimsy. The old man can say he didn't say that.

Physical evidence is better than verbal accounts. So I hope the media won't cause political pressure be applied to those whose job it is to try and re-construct it.

In a perfect world others would learn from this trial and think twice before shooting first and asking questions second.

I'm sure there was more to it than that....

These investigators are generally pretty switched on....they have the weapon, spent projectiles, victim, perpetrator and damage to the door to go off.....I'm no expert but even I know enough to know they have lots to go on.....

I don't think there is any dispute of who shot who. It's going to be more about self defense vs a racially motivated shooter.

The man nor the kid set out to have a confrontation. They were both taken by surprise. They were both terrified in that split second. Coming up with malice is going to be a challenge. The kid, by what we hear so far, appears to be a good kid. He had no malice. He had a wrong address. The old man didn't know any of that.

Now if they can find he has some racist leanings, then it may get to a manslaughter charge. It wasn't pre-meditated. He didn't know that kid would be there.

Manslaughter not happening since the kid is not dead.

People have become soooooo soft. Sooooooooo scared. Someone knocks on ure door at 930PM and IMMEDIATELY the goofball grabs a pistol and is on HIGH ALERT. Jeeeeeesus. CALM DOWN FOLKS. U live in cow town USA. The person KNOCKED on ure door. Its NOT A STICKUP. calm down. A stcikup kid DOESNT knock on the door. He kicks the door in or sneaks in. I blame the media for making people TERRIFIED. If ure immediate reaction to a knock on the door is to grab your pistol you are SCARED in general. No need to be scared. You are in YOUR HOME. YOU have home court advantage. this cant continue on like this. This is nuts.
To give you a couple examples of how wrong your post is. Home invasions happen daily.

Only to show that yes many times it’s how they gain access inside. It pays to have a window or better a camera to see and be able to identify who it is before opening.

This it not meant in any way to address the case of this kid.

It's official, Fox News admits they lied about the election and will half to pay about half of the original 1.6 billion dollars Dominion originally wanted. Doesn't matter everyone that believed the lies will continue to believe the lies and they will come back and say it again 2024.

A settlement is not an admission of guilt.
