Just Run Over In A Parking Lot

Why would you not claim the full amount, parts and labor, rental car etc to his insurance? Parts only? Your time is worth nothing? Collect the full amount, do it yourself and you get paid for your time and labor.
 
If the shoe was on the other foot, he'd be trying to get everything he could from you.
 
There's always the chance he would want to fight me on it and I could lose. I know in REALITY I'm the victim, but as a former loser in the legal system due to a corrupt system, I have little faith in it.

I would rather have the money for the parts for sure instead risking a big hassle and possibly walking with nothing. If I can sell the scuffed pieces to someone on the cheap that will be SOMETHING for my time at least. Or I could donate them to someone in need if I don't find a buyer I guess.

That, and how long does it take to swap two fairings and a fender? Probably less time than it takes to run to the dealer and back twice if I had them do it and I guarantee they are not going to take a stock muffler, gut it, shorten it 8 inches, re-baffle it, then wetsand and polish it.

One other thing... I don't really base my actions on the actions of others. I'm being kind to him because I would hope that is what someone would do for me if I'm in the situation, not because I really believe most people would. It's just the way I roll...

I have no copy of the report the officer filed, and he was having a hard time understanding how the accident even happened. I'm not 100% sure he got it correct. For all I know it does NOT say what really happened. It would probably be his insurance company that would fight it if anything.

If he pays me for the parts, it's only a couple of hours of my time to correct everything. It's AT LEAST the same amount of time if not less than I will spend running around getting quotes and dropping things off and picking them up. The last time I had to wait from money from another insurance company it was 2 1/2 months and a lot of hassle. It's better for both of us if he does it, if not then I'll submit it and do it the hard way.

As far as all your comments on volunteering to get screwed, letting him off the hook or just paying for the damage to his car, that is just argumentative and un-helpful. You're signature is probably very appropriate: "What I Say here Today Will Be Little Noted, Nor Long Remembered"... sounds about right. Per Wag's advice, I've checked with my insurance agent (who is a good friend) and made sure I have time to file this so I don't get hosed and I'm ok. That is an example of helpful advice, just for reference. Thanks Wag and everyone else who made a helpful contribution.

glad you were able to walk away from this without any physical injuries, it could have been much worse...if that is the way you roll, stay true to yourself...i like the way you look at it as being less time and hassle (and gas money) to do it yourself than to have to work around others schedules...if it was something major that you couldn't do yourself, then by all means go after the dad's insurance...however, i think the world would be much better off if most people weren't looking for "i'm going to get everything that is mine"...if we ever meet, remind me and i'll buy :beerchug:

If I don't get the cash this weekend, I WILL be turning this in for EVERY piece, a full tech inspection and labor for all the work. Still, if he just gives me cash it's going to take LESS of my time and have the same result. I fail to see the absurdity, but I asked for opinions so I'm going to change my tack and thank you for yours. :thumbsup:

Abe was a great president, there are a lot of things he did that people could learn from. I always thought it was very ironic those words were used in his speech and now we all remember it. It's a reference to a presidential debate a few years ago which, if you know your presidential history, you probably recognize.

You are being generous and kind to a man and his daughter and I applaud you for that.

Decision day tomorrow! He didn't get me original email (work spam filter probably) so I sent to his gmail account and he confirmed receipt this morning and promised to follow up with me tomorrow! :thumbsup: :please:

Hopefully MRcycles.com will be getting my order soon! It will be my first time using them, based on the recommendations from in here.

On a side note I saw the car that hit me again and the bumper on the other side was scuffed also. I mentioned that to her dad when he gave me the check and he said it was from her backing into his car in the driveway. :laugh: Apparently she is having a tough time with backing up in general. He was pretty nice, he thanked me for being patient and flexible with him. I'm glad it worked out the way it did.

So I put all the parts on this week; both lowers, front fender and 2 new aftermarket mirrors.

I just washed it, dried it, then rode it around my block to dry the wheels then pulled into my driveway and promptly forgot to put the kickstand down and dumped it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :banghead:

Did I mention I was let go at work Tuesday due to department cut-backs?

Can we just start this week over?

It's not bad, I realized what I had done just a moment too late. I am more banged up then the bike from trying to save it, but that will heal. You would have to really look to see any of it aside from my new mirror which is trashed.

Now I need something GOOD to happen this week!!! Maybe I'll find a new job. :please:
 
In all my years of riding I've never dropped a bike sitting still, what are the chances it would be today?!
