Kawasaki Concours

Cool! ---reddish green, those are color opposites so if you're seeing both instead of a brown or an olive color, I'd say it's probably one of those two color paints.

I haven't seen a Concourse in so long I forgot how nice the fins look. Apparently Kaw decided to adopt that look for the 14R which I think was a wise choice.

Congrats on the new ride!

Thanks man, and I'm colorblind, so I'm not sure what color it is anyway! lmao!
But, it's so comfortable that I don't care.

I like the color, it's unique.....

Everything I've heard about the Concours has been positive and I know a few who have gone from the 1st gen to the 2nd gen after putting 100k+ kms on them...

Price point was outstanding in your case...can't go wrong with that deal one little bit.

So far so good, no regrets.
I'm looking forward to putting some miles on it and setting the suspension.
I just got an email back about the flash, so I'll send that out next week, and my exhaust should be here by this weekend.
I'm trying to plan it all around the ecu being out and having as little down time as possible.
This thing is so comfortable that I Really want to get out on it.
If I can still do 350-400 mile days on the gsxr...then the Concours will be Easy.
I told a friend of mine to come get it last night, he put 50-60 miles on it, and said "did you ever think we'd be fighting over who gets to ride the slower bike", lmao!
For a big, heavy, and outdated bike, it is still pretty impressive for what it is.
I guess that's why 10 years later it's still basically the same.

The gen 1 Concours was around for a long, long time as well and was in it's own right a stellar bike.....

Suzuki should have made a "Concours" version of the Hayabusa....I know, I know, they made the GSX1000GT...but that ain't a Hayabusa....

Do any of you Concours guys know what sensor is front center on the valve cover or cylinder head?
Looking through the fairings above the radiator I can see that the valve cover is leaking.
No big deal, as I'm going to order an oem valve cover gasket.
But, the problem is...the sensor I'm seeing is Not on any of the parts diagrams that I look at.
I know that it has to have an o-ring that I'll need to replace...and that I cannot find.
I was hoping to order everything I need up front.
As I'm trying to plan that repair with my exhaust swap and down time while I send my ecu out for a flash.
Does anyone know which part I'm talking about?
I'm not familiar with these bikes, and haven't taken anything apart yet.
Thanks for any info.

I completely agree.
The Busa would've made a great platform for this type of bike.

Possibly this?

@GIXERHP ?

I have my stash of ProGrip 761 grips(4 pair, lol), so I need to put a set on...and get the worn stockers off without damaging the grip heaters.
I need to order a ThrottleMiester/Throttle lock.
@mabupa I will have to talk to you about your electric cruise control setup over the winter, and I appreciate all your help so far.
@GIXERHP I know you are a Concours guy too; are there any 'Must-Do' mods for these?

OK Sixpack577 if you really want comfort then here are a few things to consider.
I don't know if you have risers and wedges but they make the reach to the bars with no
pressure on your wrists.

I added the top box that was used on the 2008 and 2009 bikes and then dropped for 2010 and later.
So instead of having a useless cover I now have a box to put things in - it's not lockable but I have never found anything missing. And of course I wouldn't put anything too valuable in there or if I did (like
my XM radio) I would move it to the lockable Givi top box.

Now if your really serious about comfort add a drivers backrest and you will never go back to riding
without one - for sure on long trips. Mine is set up so when cruising I can lean against it and with the
McCruise on I can steer using just my finger tips on the bar ends. For sport riding I lean forward slightly
and then the backrest isn't in play. With Powerful take offs it will hold you in place keeping the pressure off your arms etc. Oh and it comes off if you had a passenger and I can attach it to the bike so it's always there. I bought a used piece of aluminum and worked from there to build it. Second best upgrade.
The crash bars I added also make a good place for highway pegs - again very useful on long trips
I have two sets of foam grips which make the diameter bigger and more comfortable to hold on to.

I hope this gives you some things to think about.

P.S. I love my McCruise and it's the best upgrade I have made to this bike. I know a lot of people use the Rostra cruise and ADAPT it to a motorcycle when it was designed for a car. The McCruise has a ton of settings which can be adjusted and works as good or better than any of my 4 wheel vehicles.
I never like a ThrottleMiester or throttlelock as those are not a real cruise control. But it's your bike...

I traded one dinosaur for another, my 2020 Yamaha Raptor 700se 4wheeler/atv...for a 2012 Kawasaki Concours.
I had nowhere good left to ride the 4whlr, and wanted to sell or trade for a good sport tourer.
The Gsxr1k isn't going anywhere, the 4whlr was paid for, and I was looking for a good Budget long distance and 2up ride, that was not a cruiser.
Yes, there are better sport touring bikes out there I'm sure, but for the money, nah, this thing is pretty good.
Trade in on my Raptor was $7140
Dealer wanted $8399 for the Concours.
We did a straight up trade.
They put a temporary tag on it too(traded in NC but live in VA), but went to the Va Dmv yesterday too.
Tag and title fee $350, plus $40 in tax.
Plus, liability insurance is $124 a year, lol, Thank You God.
So I'm $500 and a 400 mile round trip into this thing, no complaints.
It has 14k miles, new tires, oil change and brake/clutch fluid, a clean title, aftermarket seat(very comfortable), a radiator guard, grip pads on the gas tank, battery tender pigtail, aftermarket top case, a Ram Mount(taking off and buying a QuadLock), drop pegs that I already drug the road with, but fortunately found the stock pegs in one of the side cases, along with another key and a cover.
The exhaust is stock...so I already ordered a full BlackWidow, lol.
I'm going to get a reuseable air filter, a Shoodaben ecu flash, am going to email Core-Moto and Spiegler about ss lines, and hopefully upgrade the front pads.
I have only rode it a few miles, and made no suspension adjustments yet, but I am really impressed with the handling and stock power...all things considered.
I was told it was black, as it looked in the pictures the dealer sent, and they had another used black Concours there...however, this one turns reddish green in the sun, and is a black/burgundy color otherwise.
Oh well, I don't care, it looks black or dark enough when I'm riding it, lol.

Congrats!!! Is “root bear” color too! Even faster than black.

That’s the sensor I mentioned on our PMs, if I’m not mistaken. Is known to leak and there is a thicker o-ring that people use as an upgrade. Cam position sensor I want to say is called(?)

Right on, cam position sensor was the only thing I could imagine it being, but it's been 10 years since I worked on any Kawasakis, and they have their own way of designing and laying things out.
I havn't put any real effort into it yet either, lol.
But I don't understand why it doesn't show up in the parts diagram, because all parts are shown in those, even if they are unavailable or discontinued.
Strange.

Thanks for all of that info.
I'll definately look into the MCruise, as I plan on cc as a winter project.
I want some type of crash bars at some point.
The aftermarket seat is really good too, and I like the position of the bars.
I need some seat time to see what else is next.

A quick google search will yield some info and I’m sure @GIXERHP knows the details too. I forgot to mention on our PMs that I did same mod as @RedBusarider rider and added the little “glovebox” on top of the tank from the older models and I also have MC enterprise crash bars with pegs for highway cruising. I believe they no longer make them but they have already come in handy once, yes, I dropped my bike on a patch of grass and nothing happened thanks to the bars. They even have a thread on the forums called concours droppers anonymous or something like that.! is not a matter or if, just when……. Or so they say. She is heavy so if she starts going over just let her go or you’ll be at the chiropractor’s office. Lol!
