KTM SuperDuke 1290 GT vs Hayabusa Gen3

I did a test ride on KTM SD1290GT. I was quite excited about that but at the end of the day, a bit disappointed I gave back the GT and jumped on my Busa with joy.
Few words about KTM:
- brutal bike, sharp brakes, agile in city
- suspension (even when set to 'comfort') is not as nice as in busa
- low revs engine performance is  (weird sounds, vibrations)
- vibration on all revs... I think I be would tired after after few hours
- after 20mins of riding an 'error of the brakes' was displayed...

Here is short video that might give an idea why I personally prefer suzuki.

Gas gas , Husqvarna & KTM are the same motorcycles, so where is the Husqvarna 1390 naked bike *
Here is the 1290R version , still with KTM stickers.....actually 1301cc .

I rode an '16 1290. I agree with the review; vibrations, which I suppose on a twin is expected, noises, generally an unfinished feel especially compared to the Busa and a '16 Tuono Factory. Pretty much no contest, I thought.
Yes, the earlier Super Duke are known to be raw in most respects , and the front end was not adjustable , and vague frontend feedback was a common complaint .
Actually the Gen 3 2020 model forward to now , is the first of the Super Dukes to really address all this , with a link equipped rear suspension ( like most sportbike use ) and fully adjustable fork .
The 75 degree V twin in Gen 3 form is still wild , but also more refined than earlier versions . KTM now offer the Gen 4 version , with quite a few update improvements . Probably still not a bike I would compare to a inline four sport tourer ... even value for money is subjective , but fun factor wise the SDR is truly up their with anything available today .

I was not expecting V2 to be as smooth as R4. But I recall KTM1290 Adventure S I rode once and the ADV S was much nicer.

Also suzuki’s DL1050 is way way smoother and (in my ears) sounds better when being rev’ed up.

I thought KTM outsourced much of the engine manufacture to China via CF Moto

I heard the engines from CF Moto were unreliable and the LARGER cc engines had more vibrations !!!

I owned 2016 GSXS1000S when test riding KTM1290AS.
I need to say it was my first ride with V2 LC8 engine. I heard a lot about it’s power and torque.
But after jumping back on my suzuki my 1st reflection was: the 999cc R4 feels more “torqie”.
It was subjective and the bike weight/suspension characteristic were a factors here but for street use… I realized that “old” GSXR K8 is great.
Have exactly same opinion about Hayabusa’s engine.

The GSXR platform the GSX was based on was arguably one of the best GSXR platforms made.......so it equates to it being a sound bike.....

There's something about a tried and trued, thoroughly tested design such as the Hayabusa that works, other than the addition of different bodywork and an electronic suite, the Hayabusa really hasn't changed much since it was introduced.

I honestly know nothing about KTM bikes other than their dirt bikes were pretty solid...

Well solid bike from KTM seems to be history. LC8 engines are know for oil, coolant leaks. Electronic also pain in the neck. I experience false positive brake failure. It was after 20mins of test ride. No issue with the brakes but I have lost confidence in diagnostics and in this bike.
The quality issues are pointed among other as a reason for actual KTM situation - as the the company has stopped production and is close to bankruptcy.

Well the ktm has riser bars, not clipons. It's a GT, Grand tourer, the Sport-tourer is in a class of it's own and the ride is completely different in my experience. Riding long distances on a stock sport tourer is not as comfortable but a lot more fun in the corners.

There is a mod for the ktm. How the bike handles when you do it is another question.

If I want that ktm ride experience I get on my Yamaha T7, it's got riser bars and actually handles the corners quite with the Pirelli scorpion rally tires. I wouldn't have thought so but it put a smile on my face. The Busa is a serious bike in the corners, really no time for smiling I'm afraid
