Might get outta this whole crazy bike scene

I think that if you ride in doubt it hinders your awareness and reaction. I rdie almost daily (over a thousand miles in three weeks) i rdie within my limits i always tell people to ride their bikes like NOONE ELSE knows how to drive or ride. But you can't do that when your mind is not paying attention and enjoying the ride. we ride because we enjoy it (there are some who ride for the danger) but i ride for the enjoyment. When i stop enjoying it then i stop riding. Life is full of danger but it's up to you if you think it's worth the risk.

Praying for you that you will come up with the answer that is best for you.

Noone can make the decision to ride or not but you

Good Luck!!!

I run hot and cold with my bikes. Sometimes I can't get enough. Other times I can let 'em sit in the garage for a couple of weeks and not even look at 'em. When I occasionally think that I am not riding enough to justify the bikes, I quickly replace the thought with one that says that it doesn't matter. The bike's paid for and it will still be there when I have more time and desire. Works for me.

It sounds like something either happened to spook you or maybe your just now realizing you bit off more (financially, physically, mentally whatever) than you can chew at the moment. In the end you gotta do whatever makes you sleep at night. Getting back on the horse sounds cool but I have seen a lot of people get hurt trying to do that very thing. Motorcycling in general requires a different mind set than a lot of people are prepared to shoulder, Plain and simple. If not there would be a lot more bikes on the road. The best you can do is to prepare for the problems as best you can. Riding skill courses are available everywhere, riding gear is ridiculously inexpensive, attractive, easy to use and effective these days, and your chosen mount is in my opinion one of the safest vehicles on the road today. The insurance is an Issue that can be addressed with a little due diligence and shopping around.

Everybody here has given you good advice. What you do with it is up to you. But absolutely do not ride if you aren’t 100% comfortable doing so. Maybe you just need to take a smaller bite?

In the end, you have to decide if you enjoy riding enough to continue...you can't ride in fear, but you surely can't ride thinking nothing will ever happen to you.  I believe that's when you start making mistakes, not paying enough attention to what's around you while you ride.  Only YOU can decide if riding is worth the time, money, and risk...every single rider questions the sport at some point, and you either opt to continue doing it or not...it's entirely up to you.

Va, you have a way with words...well worded, thanks for expressing yourself in a manner, in which I wish I could have.
+1

#1: I had a bike stolen before and collected nothing!
Cure: Dont leave your bike outta your site.

#2 Shop around for insurance, also your good/bad driving/insurance policy's collected has a lot to do with how much you pay,as does location.

#3 If you go around worrying about getting hit by a 'cager' then you ought to watch out when crossing the street, driving a car, getting struck by lightning, being eating up by a shark, getting killed in a train wreck, ect. ect. ect.....

Life is way to short to not have fun,and I dont care what anyone says...you only live once!!

Thanx for all your opinions, much bettr responses then a couple other boards. I think with being up late last night doped up on mountain dew and was bored and started thinking too much. I do have a lil fear of crashing but its not like im going nuts at any car that comes near me, far from. I just try to make sure i know what im getting into and know what the possibilities are. I kinda tend to overanalyze stuff at times and get myself all worked up. I know id be going crazy minutes after the bike rolled away if i did sell it. Im just gonna take a lil break for now and see how it goes. Like one of you said, its paid off and not going anywhere.

I should also stop watching every bike crash video on the net! LOL Again thanx for the great responses from everyone!

Never even thought about it....After I bought that Nighthawk 250 five years ago,I knew I could never be without a bike.I will sell my cage before my bike.I am a biker and will be til' the day I die....

I don't think I should admit this but I will. I have been riding for 45years. in those years I had three accidents.. #1 was a Sears Moped.Age 16 rounding a curve on a pave road there was lose gravel. down I went and skinned up both Knees bad. Told self don't do that again it hurts.. In florida there is sand on a lot of curves. so what I do is scout them first then make the speed run.#2 Whizzers, Cushman Eagles 305 Honda scranbler. 250 Yahama. Crashed it when I was 30 a car turned left in front of me and I hit it head on at 45 MPh. Christmas eve.. They didn't think I would make it.. Beat up bad.. But I did. the day I laid down my crutches I rode home on a 450 Honda Twin, torsion bar valve springs.. then jumped to the 750 punched it to 836 laid it down on a race track because of high speed wobble.. skint my knee.. that one should not count against me.. Then comes the #3 age 40 Honda CBX 1000. all my friends told me to slow down or I was going to get killed.. one day it was raining and I slowed down to 45, got rearended by a hit and run. I flew over top of truck. blue paint on helmet from truck. skin't left elbow..
#4 Age 57 1800 Honda VTX riding with group crossed bridge didn't make Curve, thought she was a sport bike. laid her down.. skint elbow.. Poor elbow. Next Honda CBR1000R Knees hurt to bad in the crouched position. No other problems. Honda 1100 Sabre. no problems . #6 age 61 Suzuki GSX1300R Truck turned into my path. Crashed into passenger door. Mule kicked me all over.
I am not going to stop riding. I lost a riding buddy who I rode with for 15 years at age 57 riding a cruiser.ran off curve hit tree.. he should have gotten a sport bike if he wanted to do that stuff... but, in the casket he had this big smirky smile, He was having a great time.
I am so glad that I did not stop riding after any of the accidents.. because there is no better good time, highs or therapy. I can meditate at 150 mph..
My skin used to get goose bumps every time I heard a Four. wound out going thru the gears..Still do.. So in 20 days I will be getting a New Busa. Because they totaled mine out. When I can no longer hold my bike up without falling over. then I shall go get a Gold Wing Trike.. Sooo !! see you on the Highway...

can't help it, one more thing. If you think the Bike scene is Crazy you should not be there..If you have fear you will never enjoy the Ride. maybe you need to quit doing Stoppies and wheelies with your wife on the back..

but im thinking its not the thing for me right now maybe? Anyone else ever start thinking crazy like this?
I thought that once.  It was when I was in ICU for 5 days after wreckin the Busa(broken vertebrae and two ribs).  Somehow the Busa was fine.  Anyway, I lost those thoughts when I got out of the hospital.  I went home and got back on.  It was a painful, short ride but well worth it.  If your'e scared of getting killed on the bike, then ya need to get rid of it.

Even after the wreck, I love my bike and I love being on it.  Just last friday I had a serious offer from someone wanting to buy it for 15G's.  Love my baby too much to give it up.

Went thru some financial turmoil and got rid of my Hummer and a second car but kept the Busa

would you please, change the font color? it hurts my eye try to read your thread...Thanks.
Yeay...I've been riding, near 30 years...road rash to bone braking accident...after so many of them...you become a card reader...that you are not feel good about to go out that day?
better not go...other wise, nuff said...that kind of cold ride will get you...especially the busa...
if you have a stronger mind to overcome your karma, then you ride, otherwise, grab you cage key cruse around...
So, if you feel cold about it? sell it and walk away, while you can...

Sounds to me like you need to get on that thing (when your ready) and put some serious mileage on it. Take a weekend off and pick a direction, ride out one day, and ride back. Go slow, enjoy the scenery, take a camera. You will fall in love with that thing. I'd say it takes 2-3000 miles on a new bike, at least(!!), to really get a feel for it and to feel comfortable. Once you figure WHY you ride, then everything is easy after that.

Chicago, huh? Ride northeast up into southern portion of Wisconsin, there is some great riding up there in the non-glaciated part of the state. Just rolling hills, farmland, woodland, no people, just farm roads and small towns. That's where the magic is.

Im sorry, but if anyone has a serious fear of riding - DO Not Ride! You will cripple yourself mentally if your always over worried about crashing. Have I crashed, yes, will I again - I hope not, but if I do, I do, and Hope I live to tell about it...if it is the big one, than it is---so be it, I go out doing what I loved.

Over worrying is completley different than being aware or cautious and safe.

I like to make this analogy: I carry my full cup of hot coffee down 13 stairs, on my worn out carpet and dont spill a drop. I get new carpeting, fill my coffee cup half full, be extra cautious not to spill a drop, but end up spilling the coffee all over the new carpeting....hmm, sometimes being too cautious makes you fug up worse.
+1 I couldn't say it better

Install some genmar risers, lowering links set on the middle hole and install some aftermarket gel grips. This will make your Busa much easier to cruise around on with/without the mrs. Also, get a good aftermarket windscreen like an ZeroGravity double bubble or something.

Everyone has thoes thoughts...but I am sure alot of us prefer not to think it. After I made that link last week with the page of wrecks I seriously sat back and thought about it all....Well I cant give it up. I have had some sort of toy my whole life, from ATVs-Jet Skis etc. All of them have their own risk. So I have that "bug" and like said here...Ride smart. But if your doubts are that big then cash it in. The cons dont out weigh the pros in your books.

At least in 30 yrs you can tell your grandkids.."you know I had a Busa back in 06......Man it was fast"

If you have the space, park the bike and put a cover over it for 6 mos or so.. At least it's still THERE if you change your mind..

I sold my Katana in '03 and when trying to get "congressional approval" by my wife for the Busa, it almost didn't happen.. Save yourself the grief and keep the bike- That way if you DO change your mind, and just want a different kind of ride, at LEAST you have a trade-in!

If you go cold turkey now, it might come back to bite you..

BUSAFETT

Sounds to me like  you got the bike to be able to hang out with your friends who no longer ride. Although I enjoy being with my friends and riding with them, I must admit I enjoy riding alone more sometimes. I would think nothing of getting on the busa and heading out for a long ride by myself. I have a busa to RIDE! I'm 55 years old and I don't care if people think I'm cool by riding a bike that has the cult following of the busa. If you are after the social  aspect, sell the busa and buy a Hardley or some custom chopper and ride it 6 blocks to the bar and hang out with your pals. My 05 had more than 400 miles on it the second day I had it. Quit watching crash videos and saddle up your busa and take a looong ride. If you still feel the same way, sell it before you hurt yourself.
