Ok, since I have my 05 for sale, I have posted in the classifieds here, on Craigslist, and cycle trader. I posted it last night on Craigslist and Cycle Trader and have started to receive emails. My question is this, I dont have any idea of who will be looking at her. I worry about scams, fake checks, etc. I will only take cash and will not ship the bike, so I am think I am covered there. However, I will be having people come to my house that I have no idea of who they are. The last bike I sold was Juli's Katana and the sale went smooth and the guy that bought it was great. I just worry about people that I dont know being in my garage. I dont have a lot, but I have tool boxes, welders, stands, my 09, etc.
There is a store down the road from my house I can meet people at, but I have a bunch of stuff that goes with the bike and I cant carry all of that to the store, have paper work like title and bill of sale to do. Also, if at a store I am basically vulnerable should someone have ill intentions. At least at home I have some type of security, Juli and call 911 and I have other security that make be feel better. Maybe I am being paranoid, but sometimes I worry. Should I just relax? What would you do?

I have no problem having craigslisters at my house. They don't however come into my house or garage. Just pull the bike out of the garage and shut the door... IF they buy the bike, I would have no problem opening the garage door since I have their name, address, etc..
Just my $.02.
There are SOME good people left in the world, and you can usually get a good idea of who you are dealing with by talking to them on the phone.
On that note, don't do an email only deal. Talk to them on the phone (get their phone number, etc) before you have them at your house. Its more work to scam someone you've talked to and created some sort of "relationship" with than it is to just ditch out on someone you've emailed...
Good luck either way! :beerchug:

I was thinking same, just roll it outside and close the garage door. .380 in back pocket

you may jest- but thats exactly how i would do it till i met the guy/gal and got a warm fuzzy...
also, wouldn't hurt to have a large, intimidating friend hanging around, double plus if he's in a blue uniform drinking a beer or sumthin...ya know?

Didnt think about that. I will not allow anyone to come over with talking to them on the phone. I will have a phone before they come over.

Hmm, wonder what Trooper Oliphant is doing today?

Arrange to meet them down the road and have them follow you to your house after they show you they have the cash. Explain to them that this is for the safety of your family and that you would hope they would do the same under similar circumstances.

No test rides without payment. I remember someone here posting the guy rode up on a bike, took the bike for a test ride and never returned. Turned out the one he rode up on was stolen too.

I would just roll the bike out and close the garage.

i'll give you $500 for her and then you won't have to worry about it anymore

+1 on just having her sitting in the driveway when the prospective buyer pulls up

All above are good advice.
I would not rule out a certified check though. If buyer is real they will understand the time it will take for it to clear and for you and your bank to be happy. Then give buyer the bike. Obv cash is king but they may be getting a small loan for it or be uneasy about you and not want to bring cash?
I would for sure make sure at least one other armed male is there as a bodyguard/backup/intimidator .
It could keep things calm simply by having another person there.

How would I know a certified check is real? Especially on a Saturday?

Worse, case, I take a fake certified check and find out after I make the deposit. Report the bike as stolen?

im ok with certified cheque or bank draft. I still believe you have to have some form of trust. We use kijiji up here. High dollar or big items done at the house. Smaller items are normally done in parking lots during the day. Kinda strange really dont want a guy buying a twenty dollar item knowing where you live but a bike no problem.

Cash ends this problem, but if Sat is a problem, just how are you going to get the Title Certified (by a Notary Public in Oklahoma) for transfer on a Sat in Oklahoma without going to a Bank ? And if you go to a Bank, they can check on the Check FIRST

Well, my bank is open on Saturday. Guess I could get the buyer to follow me up there. I didnt think about the bank notorizing the signatures. I have yet to have a notary stamp a title in the last three sales I have made. The buyer paid me cash and I signed the title and bill of sale and away they went.

Now what I could do is have the buyer meet me at the bank. Theres an idea. :beerchug:
