Well about a month ago my big right toe swole up and was killing me.
Didn't kick anything or do anything I could think of to make it hurt. Went to dr got X-rays. They found nothing so dr sent me home with some pain meds and told me to go see a podiatrist. Pain went away after a few days so I did what every man does, no pain no need for another dr visit, right?
Two days ago my left big toe started to hurt. Same feeling same place , right in the knuckle of my big toe. Today I woke up , got up and the pain was so intense I got dizzy and threw up! Like standing on broken glass it is. It's bleeping killing me, like I smashed it with a hammer. So this morning I walked in to a foot specialist. After a short exam he said 'Congratulations you've got Kings disease!' ??? Huh uh do wha.....? What's that I asked him?
He said Gout :( Due to poor diet I guess. So now my foot is killing me and the list of food he gave me to eat is basically everything your mother could not get you to eat when you were little  :(

So Vegans flame on.....too much red meat got me.

I knew that was coming before I got to the end of yor story, do you drink much? That plays a part with gout too.

SORRY MAN, all I could think of reading this was that episode of King of the Hill where Bobby got gout and had to get a rascal.....getting yourself a new set of "wheels"?maybe retire the 'Busa?:poke::poke::rofl:

Wow, that sux... I'll never give up my red meat though. I don't need no stinkin' toes!

How long til you feel better?

No I don't drink enough for it to make an impact on things. If I have one or two beers a week that's about it.

Bots the Dr gave me some Gout specific anti-inflammatory meds he said will take about 3-4 days before I get any relief out of. Along with those and a change in my diet maybe a week before it gets better. But then to prevent any more flare ups I need to make a permanent change in my diet :( . Everything I love to eat is now either taboo or limited in portion and or frequency. At least I can still have pizza just without toppings. Words of warning to all who eat like I do. Mix it with plenty (obv more than I do) of fruits and veggies. The pain I'm in now I wouldn't wish on anyone.

Try endurance exercise and stretching, it will take the gout away and after six months all the women down the street will be eyeing you.

Alternatively, put a kickstarter on the Busa and start it about 12 times a day.

Sorry to hear that Blanca, I got a new diet recently do to a hack injury, its bot easy to give up what ya like.

Hope ya feel better soon.

Blanca, drink more water.

Take your indomethacin like a good boy for a few days then take it for another 2 days after the pain goes away. Keep that bottle. If you have another flare up, back on it you go.

If you drink a lot of tea cut back on it. A heavy meat diet actually has less to do with it than anything else. Drink more water and exercise more. If you change those two things that's the best move you can make.

I agree with this, but I'm no doctor, or I'd have 2 busas..

I researched Gout on the web (yeah, yeah, I know, I know) and it doesn't seem to be too heavily based on a bad diet. Are you diabetic?

My dad has it and my brother has it bad. I guess I have been lucky and passed that one up.

Exercise, eat the food your body was actually designed for (fruits/veggies/grains), drink plenty of water, and you will be shocked as to how quickly your body will repair itself

That med is what the dr gave me. As far as exercise goes I walk a minimum of 4-5 miles a day on the lot and drink about a gallon of water throughout the day. Have an occasional sweet tea. Judging from my diet which basically sucks I'm led to believe it's mostly the cause.

Walnuts good. Lowers cholesterol, cleans colon, lowers risk of heart attack by 40/50%,
when eaten 5xwk.

Never heard of Kings disease.

It's a colloquialism for "Gout", so named because royalty frequently contracted it due to the combination of rich foods and poor lifestyles.

I've never had it, but I know some people who have...and I feel sorry for Blanca! (I've had shingles, though, and that drives you crazy!)

Sorry your hurting bro. Never heard of Kings disease.

Yeah I always thought pirates got it but I guess they call it Kings disease or rich mans syndrome because back in the older times the upper class used to eat only 'rich' foods like alot of meats and things. English kings were notorious for gout. I'm like you till today I'd never heard it refered to that but after a quick history lesson from the podiatrist I know why it's called that. Didn't seem to make a diff to him or the Gout that I'm a poor pauper

I was going to ask if you drink sweet tea. Everytime I have one, bang, the pain comes. If I have one, I'm popping endomethacin that night as a preventative.

Here's a list of foods to avoid. Notice red meat is not on the list

According to the American Medical Association, purine-containing foods include:

Beer, other alcoholic beverages.
Anchovies, sardines in oil, fish roes, herring.
Yeast.
Organ meat (liver, kidneys, sweetbreads)
Legumes (dried beans, peas)
Meat extracts, consomme, gravies.
Mushrooms, spinach, asparagus, cauliflower.

I wish you and your big toe well.
