Never ridden Sport Thinking of Hayabusa trade "Help"

Hello this is my first post here and I need help from the riders of this on line community. First just a few things about my self for back ground; I’ve been riding motorcycles for the past five or six years. I’ve ridden everything from Harley Davidson Sportster 1200 to a Honda magna then for an odd year an Ural sidecar rig. More recently my 2006 Mean Streak 1600 which I love far is it is it more looks then performance.

But to my problem in which you may be able to help me with, I have the opportunity to trade my 06 Mean Streak SE for a very nice and kitted out Hayabusa. The hayabusa is older but very well done up and has never been down and has been checked out by a Suzuki shop in the area.

My main problem is that I have no experience with sport bikes; I ride every week and have a far amount of experience with other types of bikes. But I have never operated a sport bike of any kind. So (meaning well) all my friends are telling me I’m going to kill my self with that bike and that I should stick with the Mean Streak. That being said I think I can handle the bike as long as I take it show at first, as in no burnouts or racing for a least the first few hours/miles.

I know I’m new to this form, but please sound off I’m going around in circles on this one, I like my Mean Streak but the I’ve been looking at the Hayabusa off and on for the past few year. What do you Veteran Hayabusa riders think?

I have know some guys that started out on a Busa (not recommended) and did just fine. I know guys that have years of experience riding a Busa and probably should not be on a Busa to this day. We don't know your ability on riding a bike on the street so it really is hard for a true answer for you.

Only you can really answer that question with any accuracy. I can only leave you with this.... Don't get the Busa just to "have" a Busa. But if it is a bike that makes you think of it every night before you go to bed and if its the first thing you think of when you wake up. Then you probably really want it and it "may" be the bike for you. Old or new Busa's are rock steady and deliver on sooooooo many issues.

Good luck

You've got some years riding. Respect the potential of any bike and you can handle it.

The Busa is a great bike, and can be very well setup for long distance riding. It's the most versatile sport bike made to date. It's also the most comfortable out of the box.

:welcome: and enjoy.

My abosolute very first bike was a 04 Limited candy apple red Busa. I didn't have a single days worth of riding under my belt. I faired out just fine. I don't think that there is really any difference between bikes, it the riders that are different. Responsibility goes a long way when riding a Busa. I can almost gurantee that you won't regret your trade if you respect the Busa. They are like a well trained pit bull. If you act up with them, they WILL bite. Hope that helps you with your decision on what to do. Oh and :welcome::welcome::welcome:.

+1 megawatt. I know the day I told my friends I had bought a hayabusa they all said that I would kill myself too. I had a smaller bike before and felt confident in my riding skills that I could upgrade to a bike like the busa. The main reason I bought mine over any other models was how comfortable the bike was to ride. And I don't regret my decision 3 years later, i'm loving every chance I get to ride it!

The Busa is the first sport bike I have ever owned and operated. I too had a Magna and many other different bikes over a 30 year period.
That said, I have only had my '09 for the last 9 months (Duh) and have put 12,000+ on it. Many of these miles have been on twisties. I had never done a twisty before May 3rd of this year and now I am hooked. I do not do burnouts at all, as I see it as unnecessary to the type of riding I do.

I do however test my limits and try a little harder riding just to improve my skills. I will be doing track days soon to further the experience and build confidence in my riding.
Not to beat a horse but the Bus can do many things in the right hands.
I love this bike.

By the way, My boss tells me all the time that "You are going to kill yourself on that thing".
I could think of lesser ways to go.

Oh sorry welcome to the ORG.
Ride safe and sage

Oh man that's so true.... I got mine in Spring 2009 after like 7 years waiting I can afford one (insurances + cost of the bike as they get older)... I didn't even wanted another bike instead 'cause I didn't want to scrap the feeling that my next new bike would be a busa since I sold my '89 ninja 750R back in 2001... so I finally got old enough (31 years old) to not be ripped off by the insurance cie + have a well paid job so I could afford to get my dream bike that I thought about every night and every morning and came to this site just to look at what people that already got one had to say about it..... and now, finally, I got mine!!!! YEAH! And I can't be more happy with it.... it's like the bike was made for me!!!

you'll love it plain and simple I don't know of anyone that has gotten on one and not loved it. It is a very very well rounded bike it can be a pussycat or a lion. you can tour on it or run it through the twisties. Has all the power you'll need unless you plan on going reeeallllly reeeeeallllllyyy fast ( they are pretty much capable of 186 from the dealer and a lot more once you get rid of that pesky speed restriction but seriously are you going to go 186 on as regular basis probably not:whistle: I did say probably right?). It's not the best for twisties obviously but in the hands of a capable rider it does just fine

For a new rider:

The bad: Incredible horsepower and torque, require a lot of riding skill if you push them.

The good: they are a lot less twitchy than say a gsxr-1000

Good luck on your decision. I somewhat doubt you'll buy a Busa and not say this is one of the greatest motorcycles I've ever ridden.

your not the only one asking by the way we have had a sudden rush of folks asking the same questions. Cruise the forum and check some of the recent posts. they may answer a lot of your questions. That being said the Org is a great family to be a part of not just because we all share a great love for the busa. But because there are very genuine and good people here all who are willing to help. The busa is more than just a motorcycle it's the thing that brought a lot of really good folks together here. If you get nothing else from just visiting for information and some biased ( very much biased ) opinions know that your also a part of a great community of people. Even if you don't get a busa (get one trust us, just do it you'll love it cmon, It'll make you feel good ):. :cheerleader::cheerleader:

I too had friends who thought I was going to kill my self on my Busa. Other riders were worried that I might not be prepared for something with this amount of power. I am not sure if there is a bike to ride that could "get you ready" for the Hayabusa.

You just have to exersice some good old fasioned wrist control. There is so much you can do to there to get them right for you.

:welcome:

i'm not a veteran Busa owner , i'm a new Busa owner . I've been riding for 29 years and I just want to say, the Busa is the most fun bike i've ever ridden. It's smooth running, has an awesome exhaust note( even stock) accelerates so fast your forearms and grip gets a workout and stops on a dime. It's been refined over the last ten years and is the bike the competition cant match. Go for it you will not regret it.

Learn the bike, a 600 can kill you. Long as you respect it you'll be fine.

custom paint? From what i can see, it looks like an 01 body kit

so without knowing the year, can't tell you a price....but the add ons add nothing to the value

and if it is truly an unrestricted model(ie: 99-00)....not worth anywhere near $6500 in cash or trade.

My first sport bike is my Busa,

Ridden all my life but only Cruisers, Decided I wanted a street bike and didnt want to mess around with wanting something faster a few months down the road if I were to start out small so I went with the Busa, Best decision I ever made.

Just take it slow at first, Get used to the bike, Get used to the sitting position, Get used to the power. Then Grip it and Rip it

Ive had the Busa for a year now and also have a cruiser, Now when I get on the Cruiser it doesnt feel right.

My first bike ever after a whopping two day Florida MSF course. A BKing (naked Busa) and I have done well. I ride it slow and just enjoy the heck out of it. If you twist the throttle it will rip! Roll ons are an absolute joy.
