New to 'Busas, but very tempted to buy...Help!

Look for how well the bikes were maintained and for signs of major abuse/neglect, chain, sprokets, bolts & fasteners, adjustments. Tire condition. I've got nearly as many miles on my 08 & shes' got allot left in her. Be looking for Evidence of oil changes, unmentioned crashes. Bike does what you want it to do. Keep it out of the dirt :poke:

You guys are all awesome! I really appreciate every one of you for taking your time to help me out!
Thanks for all the advice. It's good to hear that there are those on here that support the idea of a Busa being a first street bike, I was worried about that. I admit that I have been considering getting something like a CBR600 for my 'learning' bike, but I just don't fit on them. Since I've always adored the Busa, I was leaning towards making the purchase.
Where I work, there are a lot of people that ride. Some of them actually race in semi-pro middleweight divisions. Most all the people I've spoken with at work agree with the general sentiment here: that I should just get what I'll be happy with.
I did plan on riding the Busa for a few months, minimum, before taking the wife with me, and even then, we'd start small - like with little jaunts around the neighborhood.
I'd also been planning on being very careful with the throttle (starting out gently, etc) in order to get used to that much power.
V-rods I do like, but I can get a Busa cheaper, and I frankly like them better.

As far as them both being painted, I thought that the orange/copper color was one of the colors Suzuki put out. I've never seen the teal green before, however. Either way, I definitely plan to meticulously look over the bikes for signs of damage. I'm also trying to attach a photo of both of them, in case others out there can verify or debunk the repainting claim.

Thanks again! You guys rock!

You're going to hear a lot of buy a smaller bike buy the busa but it really DOES boil down to what you want and feel comfortable on.

This is exaclty what some of my co-workers that ride have said. That it's more important to get what you want so that you don't have a bike that you don't enjoy riding (maybe it's too small, or underpowered, etc) and it just sits around. Better to get a bike that you'll ride.

Makes sense to me.

You are correct, That is a stock color for 2003, I wasnt thinking that color when you first mentioned it.

Sweet, good to know for sure! Thanks!

Yeah, I think that's the one I like better as well. Trouble is, it's not very close, so it would be a mini road trip with a whole bunch of cash to either bring it home, or find that it was in worse condition than I wanted - and come home empty-handed! :'(

Thanks again!

Tell your wife to get her own bike. Riding two up on a Busa is like having sex with your sister, it feels good until your done, then you hate yourself! Two up riding......yuk!!!!!

Wow! I don't even know how to respond to that. I'd love her to get her own bike, though. I think she'd feel a little overwhelmed with anything very big at all. She's have to get something like a Ninja 250... that would make for the coolest bike pairing ever, tho!

Lots of good advice here. I`m 6`3" 230# so the bike will fit you fine. My GF likes 2-up on the V-rod, (shes not logged many miles on the `Busa) When I`m alone it depends on who I`m riding with vs. which one I`ll ride, good luck with your purchase.

The nose seems to be a different shade of orange than the side. I know a member here had his pumpkin nose resprayed and it was tricky to match the color. That maybe the case here. Just pointin it out so you can ask the right questions and get the better bike.

Thanks! I just checked out a Busa a few hours ago. I feel like it was a good fit size wise (it's the first one I've actually been on). It had aftermarket exhaust and I couldn't believe how it sounded even at 7-8K RPM!

What a machine!

Thanks for pointing that out. I had noticed that in the photo, but since I didn't know the finishes too well, I almost wondered if that's just how they were, since the add doesn't mention anything about damage or other problems.
I'll make sure to ask him about it, though, thanks!

You are too big for a Hayabusa. You might be able to ride it but you will look like one of those bears in the circus riding those tiny motor scooter things.

Get a V-Rod. It has plenty of zip, they are cheap used, you can strech out and your girlfriend will thank you for your consideration.

FWIW, I own a '07 Busa and a Harley FXST. I've been riding since 1963...

sold a 03 burnt org. busa year before last ,love the bike best one i have ever owned now have a 09. For two up riding is the best all around bike ever. just wanted to know why so many people on here tell people to by a harley or a v-rod isn't this hayabusa.org

Thanks. I did read it shortly after you'd mentioned (a couple days ago) there's a sticky dedicated to "Busa as a first bike". After reading it, I am back to considering something a bit smaller, however, this technically wouldn't be my first bike - just my first street bike. I know that a Busa will handle VERY differently than the 350s I'm used to in the dirt and mud. I've ridden Ninjas and CBRs, so I do have some experience on the road. I've got an idea of the different handling characteristics of a road bike.

I really appreciate your concern - I do believe you're only mentioning it out of my own best interest, and I do take your recommendation seriously. I'd definitely consider another bike that is big enough for my 6'4" frame and can run 2up on mountain roads, since that's the whole reason I'm thinking I'd like a road bike. If it's something I could be comfy on for 3+ hour rides, I'd be very interested. I guess I'm not familiar enough with other sport touring bikes.
Anyone have any experience with Honda VFRs?

Thanks again for the concern.

That's what I keep hearing - and part of the reason I'm so interested in it!

I'm thinking they are looking out for me. Since I'm pretty new to street bikes, people think I should probably look for something that's not as fast, heavy, and mean!
