A conversation for a different thread maybe, but said process needs seriously overhauled. USCIS currently is taking up to 13 months to renew a green card, and apllicants for naturalization can wait longer than that. Communication during the waiting period is nill. They are very timely in processing the several hundred dollar filing fees, though. That's almost immediate. A lot of of so called illegals are in limbo waited on a very flawed process.
I know historically that the border between Mexico and the US has always been fluid, lots of western books written about border towns and the issues they had even back then...but in those days the US wasn't any more of a shiny place to live than Mexico was...the tables have certainly turned in the last 200 or so years.
No need to overtake Mexico with an invasion that destroys the Mexican government. Simply put into place an agreement that gives the US military a license to seek out and destroy the cartels. With Warthogs softening up the hideouts and tanks following up my guess is the number of cartel members would fall sharply when faced with overwhelming fire power. Add to that the electronic snooping tools we have to locate the upper management and force them further underground to their self imposed prison, or out in the open to surrender or die in a flurry of gunfire.... no cartel can beat a technically superior military force that is bigger than the cartel they seek out.

Sociopaths and worse that have become leaders in politics and other places really don't have a issue with people dying... some will pretend to care, but, in reality, they don't really care all that much as long as their son or daughter doesn't have to be on the front lines.
