It was the same here... My mom only protected me from Dad when it was justified in her mind. Bad behavior in school would not be tolerated. My Mom taught at a different school than where I went to school. She quit teaching junior high school kids in the 60s when they were still tame compared to the last 10 years or more.Corporate and govt waste on display.
Teachers here in south Florida base starting salary is around $60k. I know some making almost $100k. It aint totally terrible to deal with considering they basically get summers off and more days during the year off than I can keep track of? My son is home and its not a holiday? I ask him why? He replies ‘teacher work day’. Thats what they call them. And guess what they aren’t even at the school working?
But even in private school without the ability to punish kids like they did when I was growing up i wouldnt want the job. So much disrespect allowed these days towards teachers and they are powerless to address it. I still remember my 7th grade math teacher and the paddle he had hanging on the wall. ‘Sir one more outburst from you and Im going to the wall!’ he would say. Not to mention if I did get paddled id get a discipline slip I had to take home to be signed by a parent!! Mom would always say ‘I aint signing that. Wait till your father comes home!’ Me ‘Noooooooooo!!’ Telling him I got paddled resulted in worse….
