R1 Steve was hit today and left for dead

I just returned from the hospital. He has had surgery to correct to aorta problem. When I arrived at the hospital they said he was in critical condition, just before I left, the Doc said he was stable and the surgery was a success. He still has a lot of damage but should pull through. The next big step is to make sure there are no spinal cord injuries.

I met the rest of Steve's family today, they are a good bunch. Both his parents, his brother and two sister's were there along with is daughter (16) and his ex-wife. He has a lot of family support.

Thank you all for praying.

Kevin

Glad to hear the surgery was a success, The Lord is watching over Steve Kev.

Hope there are no spinal injuries and glad the surgery went well. My prayers go out to Steve and his family.

Thank the Lord he's okay , he and his family will be in my prayers!!

Sorry to hear this and hope all turns out OK. Surgery on an Aorta is no small deal and if he has cleared that hurdle it is good news. Hope there are also no paralyzing injuries either.

I'm so sorry to hear about your friend Kevin...glad the surgery's out of the way and he's holding his own...nothing but the best thoughts his way...

My wife spoke to his daughter today, he is apparently trying to move his arms and legs, which is good news. They still have him strapped down and sedated so that he doesn't injure himself more by moving.

LAKELAND -- After a van collided with a motorcyclist Wednesday morning and left him in critical condition, all the people in the van jumped out and ran away, police said.

The wreck happened shortly before 7 a.m., a witness told police. Stephen James Mead, 43, was riding a 2004 Yamaha motorcycle south on Galloway Road and stopped at the New Tampa Highway intersection.

When the light turned green, Mead started through the intersection. Emily Higgins, who was in her car behind the motorcycle, told police she looked to her left and saw a 1990 Chevrolet van run a red light and hit Mead's motorcycle.

The van pushed Mead and his motorcycle across New Tampa Highway onto the southeast shoulder of the road.

The van's driver and passengers jumped out and ran across a field, police said. Witnesses saw between four and 10 people run out of the van, Lakeland police said. Police searched the area but did not find any of the people who had been in the van. The case remains under investigation.

Mead was taken to Lakeland Regional Medical Center, where he remained in critical condition Wednesday.

The van is registered to Hernandez Ginez Meliton, of 14284 County Road 64, Greeley, Colo., police said.
