Well we have laws preventing murder now yes. But the same book that allowed for the Crusades to be right is the same book that they interpret today. I think what we are talking about is how civilized the people that follow their chosen religion are.
I know many Muslims that are better Americans than Christian ones. And nothing they believe in their religion allows them to think killing is right. So we have come sort of full circle as to what has started this whole sidebar convo on religion. It was proposed that we have lost religion as a core value of our military. I think we have just become more civilized in how we accept all religions into the military now. We didn't have a Muslim in our military ranks in earlier times. Now we do. Our military, like our population, has become more diverse in the people that are in it.
And getting back on topic to the original post. I have so far seen noone support his release, except the President and of course his close supporters, as well as the parents of the released soldier. They are about to have Congressional hearings over it.
Meanwhile back in Iraq, Al-Qaida have taken back over the city of Mosul in a short battle that resulted in the "trained" Iraqi soldiers, turned tail and ran. So it won't take long that either we return or it goes back to we may as well never have gone there to "liberate" it.

Wow this thread got crazy.
Innocent until proven guilty. I know one thing, due to all this exact rhetoric this guy is screwed when he comes home. People calling in death threats and crap on him. Thats the biggest shame of all imho. So damned partisan, it makes me sad.

Well if you think this thread is crazy?....I just read where Mr. Bowe Bergdahl was section 8 (psych discharge) out of the U.S. Coast Guard in 2006 yet he somehow slipped into our U.S. Army afterwards?
Uncle Sam must be smoking what he wants to legalize.

or let me guess it was stockholm syndrome right?in a court of law sure he's innocent till proven guilty but NOT in the court of public opinion which can often exercise more common sense then a court of law can.
and lets be clear he converted over almost immediately after JOINING the other side NOT after being captured.
but I'm sure our inexperienced and unqualified POTUS will pardon him anyway.... but that won't bring back the dead soldiers that went looking for this deserter will it?
As a retired soldier, I expect an Article 32 investigation - and if warranted, a follow on courts-martial.
However, what I expect is that he will be Pardoned, or no ART 32 via political pressure...the President wants AFG to "go away" and cleaning out gitmo and getting any Pow's (voluntary or not) back has to happen first...
Sad thing is, the failure in Vietnam is about to happen all over again in Iraq....and probably AFG too...and the libs will say "see, we shouldn't have done it in the first place", forgetting it's their administration who let it fall....

I think its funny now how Mccain is saying.... yea seen that. I'm sure Obama and his appointees tried everything in their power to NOT prosecute this POS so his office doesn't look even more incompetent than it already is (if thats even possible!) but in the end he is exactly wat he was described by as the soldiers that worked with him and that is a COWARD terroist sympathizer who deserted and seeked out taliban members almost immediately.
and this incompetent president of ours lets 6 known terrorists go as a result? hard to believe they didn't have at least some or all of this information before making a deal like that. wat did we get out of it? we traded 1 US terrorist for 6 other taliban terrorists who are now plotting how to kill even more Americans? makes me sick!
