Religion

Religion is a touchy subject on forums, believe me they can bring out the good, bad and ugly. I normally stay out of arguing on the internet, lol......

That being said, I am a Christian, saved by the Grace of Jesus Christ when I was a teenager. I have experienced many things in my young life on the perception of believing in something you cannot see(God and Jesus). Some believe like I do and others will not believe in something unseen......

I am now 36 and I have seen the face of Jesus. After my colon resection in August, I was recovering at home. My wife early one morning, went the bathroom. When she came back, she grabbed my right hand and was saying a prayer over me......

As she was praying with tears streaming down her face, I was looking back and forth, from my right had to my left and up as if I was looking at a taller figure. Brenda did not ask me that night nor did I tell her what I saw until the next morning.

When we both were awake, I asked her what she was doing after her bathroom visit. She told me exactly what I typed earlier. I began to cry......she asked me why...

I told her as she was holding my right hand, Jesus had my left. I have never seen LOVE like I saw in His face as I saw that night. I have seen Him and I know without a shadow of doubt, HE Lives!!!!

What else do I believe..there are 2 places you can spend eternity, Heaven or Hell. Both are real. One where a metal we cherish here, Gold, the streets are made of. The other, a place intended for Satan and his angels. If I asked everyone here if you BELIEVE in God...more than likely most would say yes. But, if you do not have Jesus in your heart...you will miss Heaven by 18 inches.........
very well said. and i like the 18 inches part.

This is a little different IMO. You are starting to attack someone's rights. You probably don't see it that way, but they aren't hurting you in anyway. It's not like they are taking anything away from you, but you are of them if you force them from their beliefs. Never the less, Christians attack gays, gays then attack the Christians. Both sides are being attacked, I still see no bias.
Well the reason Christians stand up against this is because it is becoming so acepted today. They are reminding people that it isnt right and is an abomination to God.
Well, they are free to dispute it and the gays are free to dispute the Christians. That is whole point to a free society, IMO.

It's still not a bias or prejudice.

Hey Ken, just out of curiosity, why are you an athiest?

Hey Ken, just out of curiosity, why are you an athiest?
It started with my extremely religious mother.. she got me thinking on the subject and I just kept thinking and researching and reading, and as more and more time and effort went by,I started to really form opinions about what I was being told. The more time I spent on the subject, the less logical and likely it seemed to be true, and I started feeling it was much more likely to be a series of superstitious anecdotes and second hand recollections. My uncle is 100% Cherokee indian and was as equally interesting to hear talk on the subject of his ancestral beliefs. I have a friend who is Buddhist... again another version. I could sum it up with saying I guess it just didn't stick... Mom tried, uncle tried, my childhood priest tried.. I just felt it to be so far-fetched.. so unbelievable.. so contradictory..it just sounds like fairy tales.. The feelings persisted this way.. sort of still making up my mind, and so forth, until the reality of this world just kicked my butt one day.. It just doesn't make sense to me.. an invisible man in the sky, all knowing and all powerful.. killing children and friends and parents and still "He loves me".. I just can't rectify the evil and hypocracy... You just can't have both.. a god that is all powerful, and a god that is good.. the statements that permeate religous teachings just don't make sense.

You're new here, aren't you. ;)

This is a diverse group and we are generally VERY COMFORTABLE discussing all sorts of topics. It's always interesting and everyone is encouraged to jump in with their perspective... unless you start poinltessly cutting someone down for THIER beliefs. That's just dumb.

Religion AND politics crops up here all the time.

and no one forces you to read any of it, let alone post up replies

I agree that we should freely discuss any and all subjects.. my last comment about religion, politics and Harleys was me agreeing with exactly that.. If perhaps with a touch of salt. And lets face it, reading posts and posting replies is exactly the point of a forum, and is the only way any discussing is going to happen. You'll notice that any suggestion that someone should repent or go to hell did not come from me.And in fact the strongest language and harshest criticisms in these types of discussions rarely comes from the Atheist.. I hope we get to talk about many things, and perhaps even fervently disagree on some them. I must insist, however that if you wish to comment that "no one forces you to read any of it,let alone post replies" that you remember that street may run both ways.

Eh... its all perspective.

For one thing, the whole killing of women and children and all the atrocities that go on.

I have to points to make

1) Us humans do it to ourselves. a huge part of the entire relationship with God is based on freewill. and you cant have it both ways, either be a robot and serve a being without ever having any choice in the matter, but be under the beings full protection. Or have free will to do as you please and be required to stand up and accept the consequences. We have freewill, so in this world we must take the good with the bad.

2) For arguments sake, lets ponder a moment and just for the heck of it lets say there really is a God, there really is such thing as eternity and this short span of time we live on this planet is.. well lets say our infancy in regards to our eternal soul.

Lets place it in perspective in human terms, we live as children being brought up by our parents, when we are old enough we graduate into the adult world and move out on our own.

From an eternal perspective our time on this planet is our eternal childhood. when our physical form parishes for whatever reason our soul is released to transition to our adult eternal life.

So if you believe in God, and you believe in an eternal soul, then when the physical form parishes on this planet it is nothing to be freaked out about. Providing you are going to a better place and not a worse place

Sorry though you were brought up in an environment that confused you. fortunately for me I was not brought up in any kind of religious atmosphere so I had the freewill to make my own decisions.

But I think I can understand where you are coming from..
