Religion

what else is interesting is that all other religions seem to get protection from the gov. but Christians seems to have to defend themselves from the gov.

there seems to be alot more prjudicism towards christianity than other religions.  And it has to do with satan. satan is the greatest adversary to christianity.
What protection do other religions get that Christianity doesn't?

Looks like someone is watching..

Back to the original topic, I think it is a good idea to explore other religions, even if you are happy with your own. I think it is unfortunate that many people feel guilty about questioning things, or even wondering how the other side lives.

Think of this, even Jesus hung around prostitutes. I'm pretty sure he didn't condone the behaviour, but that didn't stop him from trying to understand them.
Jesus didnt hang around prostitues to try and understand them. Jesus is God, he understood them. he hung around them to let them know he loved them regardless of what or who they were
glad I read on before replying to that...you took the words right out of my mouth
Fair enough... my point should still be valid. He understood them, we don't. Why not try to emulate Jesus and try to understand them ourselves.

Hate the sin, love the sinner. We shouldn't treat them or anyone poorly. What we should do is the same as what Jesus was doing..showing them the right path.

I would guess that an atheist would most upset by you making a judgment about them that isn't true.

For example, If I say anyone who drives a corvette has a small penis, will they only  get mad by my comment if they actually have a small penis? but if they are well endowed, will it just roll of their back?

An atheist could argue that religion is bad for the world... many wars have been started in the name of God. That could be a reason many atheists argue/

Another reason that people could get angry when people talk to them about God is that it can be rather annoying. You have your believes, but if I come to you and preach about Buddah, Allah, or any other belief that you don't believe in, it gets tiring and I wouldn't blame you for getting infuriated.

I should mention that I haven't stated my actual beliefs, as I feel it isn't relevent, but I'm just trying to help someone see the other side.

This is why i think the OP should try to get to know them. It will do a lot more good than harm.
People would start wars regardless if their was any belief in a God or Gods or not.

People are greedy, people are power hungry, and people start wars mostly to satisify these needs.

God is an easy scape goat to blame wars on God.

Like catholics have done, like Christians have done, like muslims are doing now.

So people cant blame wars on God. Wars were started by humans and the blame was put on God.

All in all, if a person were to look at the big picture religion, and the belief in God has done more good for this world than bad. I for one have not done a lot of bad things due to my belief on God. as a good majority of Christians I know are in the same boat.

I am a very evil person. this world should be grateful I believe in God, trust me I am capable of some pretty bad things. As are a lot of people

More Atheist try to force their non beliefs down Christians throats than the other way around. get real.

Right now in the United States you can be gay and talk badly about Christians and everyone just accepts it, you can be atheist and talk bad about Christians and every just accepts it. You can remove the 10 commandments from in front of buildings and everyone just accepts it.

but if you are a Christian and dare to say homosexuality is against Gods plan, stand by, the Christian will usually be attacked without mercy.

if a Christian makes a stand and says the 10 commandments should be allowed to be placed in front of government buildings since our once great nation was founded on biblical principles, stand by.

Everyone in the United States has freedom of speech, has the opportunity to worship or not worship as you sit fit, except for Christians, we don't have freedom of speech without someone trying to put us down or tell us we are wrong. If you are Catholic or muslim, or Mormon or another religion in the United States you can practice your religion without worry of being put down, unless you are a Christian.

And why are Christians the ones always being attacked and put down when all in all Christians are the least threatening, the most helpful and the most carrying of everyone? Because Christians are the most dangerous on the spiritual battlefield, that is why Christians are attacked more than any other group.

And why are Christians the most dangerous on the spiritual battlefield? Because the relationship a Christian has with Jesus is the only way, it is the true way. If this were not so it would not cause so much hate and discontent in the world.

And if Jesus were only a mere man and nothing more, he would have been forgotten about within a 100 years of his death

Friend, I have to disagree. Atheists don't have such a vast audience. I have been approached by more Christian missionaries with all manner of argument against Atheism that I could write a book. Christians go door to door, Atheists do not. People tattoo all types of Christian symbology on their bodies... Atheists don't have much of that.

Jesus would have been forgotten had it not been for SPQR.

Ok, what the heck is SPQR lol.

And I have lived in other countries, and have lived in differant parts the United States and I dont ever remember actual Chrtistians ever knocking on my door. Not saying it doesnt happen, I am sure it does. But usually whem someone is knocking on my door they are either Jehova's witness or Mormon, and there is a differance.

"Most" Christians I know dont go beating people over the heads with their bible, they will talk to people when people ask them questions.

I personally have never gone door to door. I think the most unprovoked thing I have ever done was when I posted an open invitation to my church on the web site a month or so ago (I think, I am sure someone will dig up a thread that started something lol)

Sooo.. uhhhh anyway, what the heck is SPQR?
biggrin.gif

I think more of Christians should go door to door. Not beating anything down anyones throats...just trying to share. Isn't that what Jesus and the desiples did. They went city to city even. If missionarys can go to other countries than we should at least tell our neighbor. The reason most Christians including myself don't go door to door is we are typically the more behind the scene kind of people. I guess you could call me an intravert.

And it is hard to share the gospel with people when you know someone is gonna tell you to get the he** off their property. Yes I have been door to door before and that did happen to me. I was actually inviting the people in the neighborhood next to my church to a hog roast we were having at the church

I don't dispute a lot of what you are saying, but I don't see a bias.

I would disagree. The phrase "Spread the word of God" is something I remember from church many years ago. I do know that their are many atheist who are very forceful, but I've found that there are more Christians who are like this.

This is more about being religiously neutral. It's not like they are replacing it with a passage from the Quran.

This is a little different IMO. You are starting to attack someone's rights. You probably don't see it that way, but they aren't hurting you in anyway. It's not like they are taking anything away from you, but you are of them if you force them from their beliefs. Never the less, Christians attack gays, gays then attack the Christians. Both sides are being attacked, I still see no bias.

Catholics have faced a lot of bad press in recent years, especially in regards to their priests. Mormons also get ridiculed, it happens in different ways, but just read through this thread, someone said Joseph Smith is a nut.

I guess all I am saying is it is good to keep an open mind and one good way to do that is learn all you can about others.

Religion is a touchy subject on forums, believe me they can bring out the good, bad and ugly. I normally stay out of arguing on the internet, lol......

That being said, I am a Christian, saved by the Grace of Jesus Christ when I was a teenager. I have experienced many things in my young life on the perception of believing in something you cannot see(God and Jesus). Some believe like I do and others will not believe in something unseen......

I am now 36 and I have seen the face of Jesus. After my colon resection in August, I was recovering at home. My wife early one morning, went the bathroom. When she came back, she grabbed my right hand and was saying a prayer over me......

As she was praying with tears streaming down her face, I was looking back and forth, from my right had to my left and up as if I was looking at a taller figure. Brenda did not ask me that night nor did I tell her what I saw until the next morning.

When we both were awake, I asked her what she was doing after her bathroom visit. She told me exactly what I typed earlier. I began to cry......she asked me why...

I told her as she was holding my right hand, Jesus had my left. I have never seen LOVE like I saw in His face as I saw that night. I have seen Him and I know without a shadow of doubt, HE Lives!!!!

What else do I believe..there are 2 places you can spend eternity, Heaven or Hell. Both are real. One where a metal we cherish here, Gold, the streets are made of. The other, a place intended for Satan and his angels. If I asked everyone here if you BELIEVE in God...more than likely most would say yes. But, if you do not have Jesus in your heart...you will miss Heaven by 18 inches.........

DON'T DO THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is the DEATH of ANY GOOD conversation. Picking apart each and every line becomes each and every word, then becomes the origins of each and every word, then the usage of letters in the language and ONLY serves to derail the entire point of CONVERSING.

Just TRUST ME ON THIS.

Shredding line by line goes no where and creates tons of empty, and pointless space

Well the reason Christians stand up against this is because it is becoming so acepted today. They are reminding people that it isnt right and is an abomination to God.

Kevin, religion is touchy, but I think we have discussed this in wonderful and enlightening way. Thank you for sharing your expirience with us. Cant wait to meet you in less than a month.
