Rode my first busa today... HUGE disappointment...please help.

buying a used sport bike is sort of like getting married to a h00ker... everyone has had a piece and all you got is some worn out old rag when done, but you save the $200 a night fees...

Have never bought a used sport bike, doubt I ever will... just too much fun wearing them out for the next guy to work on.. :)
I couldn't have said it better!

If I checked out a bike and did not like that many things about it I would keep looking. I'm sure there are better deals on Busa's.

You definitely need a new busa to try that poor bike is on its death bed! A real busa will have you grinning from ear to ear while you are hanging on for dear life!!!

guys I was a little hard on the guy after our phone call. I dont think its on its death bed.. seems like either fuel pump, injectors or most likely spark plugs. Anyone have any experience with these symptoms?

Had this problem about 2 years ago. Bike ran pretty well, but after cruising for a while would not rev past 6500-700 RPM. Changed the spark plugs and thought that fixed it, but no. Had the injectors professionally cleaned and when sent the before and after report realized they weren't the problem. Changed out the fuel pump and thought everything was okay only to find out it was a bad pump. Installed a second fuel pump and had it dynoed. Pulled 167 hp with no fuel flow problems. Others have had similar problems and it turned out to be the fuel pump.

If you're looking get a cheap Busa and all the baggage that comes with it, then go for it. But keep in mind you're buying a 7 year old sportbike that has seen it's share of thrashing (baggage).

unfortunatly yes. I would just find another one if I was you. Ther are too many out there that have been taken care of. You will have to spend a little more money but will be worth it in the long run:beerchug:

Ok, Im looking at a local bike.. a 2002, with 8000 miles on it..

Repainted Ugly Factory dodge truck blue (think dull, 70's blazer blue(the coat)) uck.. He made the mistake of telling me it used to be dragraced.

It seemed mechanically sound though and paint is relatively cheap. I am a two fingered clutch kinda guy, and this one had to be pulled all the way to the bar, limiting my control or at least sense of control... adjustment hopefully?

Hes asking 5,000 and will not budge. The only mod on the busa are Muzzy carbon slip ons which sound pretty nice.

It was kinda cold and windy which made this ride not fun at all, but I did my best to critique the bike. I gotta say, the Honda Blackbird I rode was soooooo much smoother and felt way more powerful than this thing. Let me explain:

Around 9K or so the bike would energetically fall flat on its face. I could hardly do a wheelie with this bike!!! I am not a new rider...I used the clutch even!

But the falling on its face around 9K was scary. It would sputter and cough and act like a bike thats running out of fuel! Any ideas? I want to like the busa... I have always wanted one. The price isnt bad, although the color sucks and there are small scratches on all sides.

I know this cannot be an accurate representation of a busa...it just cant be.. But it left a horrible taste in my mouth.

He says he never revved past 9K (lol) because he didnt need to. No, you dont need to..unless you are test riding a bike to see if it RUNS PROPERLY!

Guys, help me out... I want to like this bike.. What could be wrong with it? I have read the kickstand switch can act up and under hard accel it can make the bike sputter (even though it is an on off switch somehow it can do this)..

I am so close to buying that super blackbird for 6800....
That busa's a perfect example of what NOT to buy used. First gen busa's are a dime a dozen.......you can do WAY better for the same money. The repaint alone would have had me walking away. And then he says it was dragraced? Why are you even considering it? It runs like crap, prolly repainted on the cheap cause it was wrecked, and did I mention it runs like crap?  The price is no bargain whatsoever for that bike.....and he won't budge...hmmmm..........walk away man, just walk away  There's no reason to EVER buy junk if you shop properly and use some common sense
And a healthy running busa will make that blackbird feel like a 600 ;) plus it'll feel lighter and handle better :beerchug:

Not reving past 9,000 RPM sounds like a fuel pump. Coincidentally, BigBSBusa and I had failing pumps at the same time. You can pick up full assemblies off of ebay for $50. But, it could be something else. If you really want to buy that bike (lord knows why) I'd have him get the pump and install it before closing the deal.

well, if it runs like it should the only bad part is the paint but I can repaint it for cheap, and it will look the way I want. So its not a bad deal as long as it runs ok.

Go and test ride a new K8 or K9 then you will know

lots of good bikes for sale out there for 5,000 so why bother with a wreck ? just move on and find a good 1 and please dont compare the blackbird to a real bike. its not even in the same class as a Busa ............ Goldwing maybe :moon:

mine comes up real good and easy ask ibified he saw a huge wheelie by me yesterday, then promptly reminded me of the street he lives on..LOL sorry andy!

He's right on the money, don't buy JUNK :banghead: Plenty of good bikes out there for a bargain if you just be patient and shop alittle ;) You should have looked at, test rode, and walked away and forgotten about that busa all in the same day. Move on already  the guys going to keep calling you trying to make the sale cause he's asking too much for it, its a pile, and nobody wants it. Tell him you're not interested and move on :beerchug:

WOW. I agree its not in the best shape but you guys havent seen it and youre calling it junk... maybe I was too harsh in my first post lol... Mechanically it seems sound other than what seems to be a fuel pump. It has a repaint because the previous owner had a dakota and liked the color so he painted the bike to match. Its not a bad paint job. there are just some scratches from what is clearly a drop in the gravel driveway a few feet away.

I personally am not a fan of the color so would have to repaint it.

I am still considering it.
